CARING FOR OUR NEIGHBORS ROCKTON AVENUE CAMPUS The Mercyhealth Rockton Avenue campus has grown by leaps and bounds over the past two years. In one short year, Mercyhealth has invested more than $10 million in the campus. Here are just a few highlights of the services that have been enhanced and added to the Rockton Avenue Campus: PREHOSPITAL AND EMERGENCY SERVICES CENTER This 16,500-square-foot training facility offers paramedic and emergency medical technician (EMT) certification and ongoing training, as well as American Heart Associationapproved CPR, first aid, casualty care training, and other training for health care professionals. It is also the home base for MD-1 and Mercyhealth REACT. Paramedic and EMT Training The facility boasts state-of-theart equipment for first responder training, including classrooms for educational training and a stateof-the-art simulation laboratory providing practice emergency scenarios. Mercyhealth also has an ambulance-based mobile simulation lab utilized on the road for firefighters, paramedics and EMTs at local fire stations. Casualty Care Training Mercyhealth s highly trained emergency physicians also offer a unique program called casualty care training, which provides instruction to schools and workplaces. This program teaches lifesaving measures for use in emergency trauma situations. Mercyhealth s MD-1 vehicle is staffed by board certified emergency medicine physicians. MD-1 Emergency Response Program Through the MD-1 emergency response vehicle, Mercyhealth brings hospital-level care directly to the scene of accidents and medical emergencies. MD-1 is a medically equipped vehicle staffed by board certified Mercyhealth emergency medicine physicians. While paramedics and EMTs are well trained and equipped to handle a wide range of emergency situations, MD-1 expands upon those capabilities by offering additional equipment, medications and resources. Mercyhealth sends MD-1 to community events and to particularly dangerous or difficult situations. The MD-1 truck contains all the equipment needed to stabilize critically injured trauma patients, says John Pakiela, DO, FACEP, Associate EMS Medical Director and REACT Director for Mercyhealth in Winnebago County. We act in conjunction with the local emergency medical services professionals. We have certain medications that the ambulances don t carry, and our physicians have advanced trauma skills and equipment to treat complex trauma patients in the field outside the hospital, including video airway equipment, chest tubes, central lines and portable ultrasound. The Prehospital and Emergency Services Center utilizes high-tech simulators to train EMTs and paramedics. Over the last two years, the health system has expanded and improved the Mercyhealth Hospital Rockton Avenue campus: Prehospital and Emergency Services Center - a 16,500-square-foot facility that offers many different kinds of training and other services, including: Paramedic and EMT training Casualty care training MD-1 Emergency Response Program Mercyhealth REACT Orthopedic Center of Excellence - several new adult orthopedic surgeons and one pediatric surgeon specialize in a variety of treatments and surgeries, including sports medicine, joint replacement, hand surgery and trauma surgery Small Baby Unit - offers a healing environment for babies weighing less than 2.2 pounds Cancer Center - newly renovated infusion center Robotic laboratory technology - provides faster, more predictable test results for blood and urine samples 12 Great People.
