DEFINITION T perfrm a variety f duties invlved in the peratin f the emergency services systems and varius cmmunicatin devices t receive, disseminate, and dispatch calls fr emergency and nn-emergency law enfrcement, ambulance, fire, and ther services. Prvide a critical link between the public and emergency respnders. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS Cmmunicatins Technician I -- This is the entry/jurney level in the class series. Psitins at this level perfrm mst f the duties required f the psitins at the II level, but are nt expected t functin at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretin and judgement in matters related t wrk prcedures and methds. Wrk is usually supervised while in prgress and fits an established structure r pattern. Exceptins r changes in prcedures are explained in detail as they arise. Since this class is ften used as a training class, emplyees may have nly limited r n directly related wrk experience. Cmmunicatins Technician II -- This is the full jurney level in the class series. Psitins at this level are distinguished frm the I level by the perfrmance f the full range f duties as assigned, wrking independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Psitins at this level receive nly ccasinal instructin r assistance as new r unusual situatins arise, and are fully aware f the perating prcedures and plicies f the wrk unit. Cmmunicatins Technician III -- This is the full advanced-jurney level in the class series. Psitins at this level are distinguished frm the II level by the perfrmance f the full and cmplex range f duties as assigned, lead supervisin, cnducting training prgrams, wrking independently and exercising judgment and initiative. Receive calls (telephne and radis) fr service frm the public requesting ambulance, fire, law enfrcement r ther emergency and nn-emergency services; btain apprpriate infrmatin; input, retrieve and update infrmatin int CAD (Cmputer Aided Dispatch) system; determine nature and lcatin f emergency; determine pririty and dispatch emergency units as necessary and in accrdance with established prcedures fr perating a dispatch system; maintain cntact with calling party when necessary; and relay pertinent infrmatin t respnding party. 2. Maintain cntact with all units n assignment; maintain status and lcatin f respnding persnnel; and maintain cmputer lg f radi and telephne cmmunicatins. 3. Maintain awareness f activities n prir shifts and cntinuing prblems r situatins. 4. Use radi cmmunicatins equipment, NCIC (Natinal Crime Infrmatin Center) telecmmunicatins systems, cmputer aided dispatch equipment, emergency alert siren system t crdinate emergency calls and relay infrmatin and assistance requests invlving ther law enfrcement agencies.
5. Mnitr and lg incming alarms and dispatch apprpriate respnse; prvide dispatching services fr a variety f agencies after hurs. 6. Prvide emergency medical dispatch services when apprpriate by gathering infrmatin frm caller, determine the needs f the patient, and prvide medical instructins t callers until deputy/ambulance/fire aid arrives. 7. Perfrm a variety f recrd keeping, filing, indexing and ther general clerical wrk; maintain a variety f autmated and manual lgs, recrds and files relating t emergency services activities accrding t department plicy and state and federal statutes. 8. Mnitr radi bands including the Sheriff's Department, Plice Department, State Law Enfrcement Cmmunicatins System (SALECS), Mutual Aid, Fire Department, EMS, Detentin Center, Cunty Rad & Bridge, and thers as needed. 9. Obtain and prcess a variety f dcuments and infrmatin including criminal histries, NCIC and Wyming warrant entries, wrk-ups, and validatins fr deputies and investigatrs. Verify entries fr accuracy and cmpliance with dispatch prtcl. 10. Operate NCIC/cmputer system t enter, mdify, update and retrieve data such as stlen and recvered prperty, driver license status and vehicle registratin infrmatin, and warrants n wanted persns. 11. Crdinate with state and lcal Emergency Management Agencies in cases f disasters r severe weather; mnitr weather wire; btain and distribute pertinent infrmatin t the public and ther agencies. Receive and relay infrmatin f rad clsures. May activate as necessary the cunty-wide Emergency Alert System (EAS) which ntifies residents f ptential weather dangers. 12. Maintain cnfidentiality f infrmatin. 13. Operate varius equipment including multi-line telephne, multi-channel tw-way radi, PC, teletype, typewriter, 911 emergency and alarm mnitring equipment, Cmputer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, Natinal Criminal Infrmatin Center (NCIC) terminal, fax machines, dictaphnes, cpiers, and ther cmmunicatins equipment. 14. Maintain general cleanliness in the wrkplace; change tapes and adjust clcks as necessary; request maintenance as necessary. 15. Mve between a variety f equipment within a cnfined area. 16. Adhere t safe wrk practices and prcedures. 17. LICENSES, CERTIFICATES OR REGISTRATIONS: Must be current r btained within a specified time frame as defined upn emplyment. Wyming Law Enfrcement Telecmmunicatins Systems Operatr License.
