Purpose of the role : To provide effective occupational therapy assessments and interventions for tangata whaiora / clients. KEY TASKS Strategically plan, revise and monitor the occupational therapy service EXPECTED OUTCOMES Use consumer and team feedback to guide assessment of ongoing occupational performance needs of client population. State targeted service outcomes Identify service resources that support clients occupational performance Develop a plan to evaluate occupational therapy service outcomes. Organise, maintain and market an up-to-date, quality occupational therapy service Accept occupational therapy referrals and provide individualised occupational therapy assessment for clients Provide individualised occupational therapy intervention with selected clients Establish policies, procedures and information systems that support the occupational therapy process Manage occupational therapy resources, (budget), equipment and supplies Design and manage occupational therapy service to achieve targeted outcomes Establish partnerships and alliances to enable occupation. A set referral procedure is established and followed Clarify occupational therapy role and tasks to aid appropriate referrals Referrals are promptly reviewed and prioritised Referral source is informed of actions taken or delays in following up clients A theoretical approach is selected to guide the occupational therapy process and decision making Up-to-date, valid occupational therapy interviews and assessments are used to establish clients occupational performance issues Assessment data is used as the basis for occupational therapy planning. KEY TASKS Record and communicate occupational therapy processes and outcomes with and/or for the client EXPECTED OUTCOMES Occupational therapy focuses on identifying clients strengths and resources for resolving occupational performance issues The extent to which occupational performance issues are resolved is assessed on an ongoing basis. Collaborative note writing,where appropriate is completed with clients when possible throughout the occupational therapy process Formal documentation is routinely completed in clinical files Assessment data is reported that reflects clients occupational performance issues and outcomes of the occupational therapy process Occupational therapy reports include plans and recommendations for addressing clients occupational performance issues Summaries are made on the completion of cycles of the occupational therapy process Active participation in multidisciplinary team planning represents the clients occupational performance issues and goals Data is provided and referrals made to other services and agencies as relevant for addressing clients occupational performance issues. Contribute to groups for clients Identify clients needs that would be most effectively met by groupwork Work with families, whanau, significant others and other agencies to enable clients occupational performance Plan and resource groups to meet identified needs Provide objectives and rationale for groups Facilitate and/or co-facilitate groups Evaluate effectiveness and outcomes of groups. Provide effective support to consumer run groups or equivalent i.e. Te Ata, Stepping-Stones. KEY TASKS Participate actively in occupational therapy forums, networking and education to keep skills, knowledge, attitudes and practice up-to-date Contribute to the occupational therapy profession and others development by offering supervision, providing clinical training and making your knowledge, practices and work outcomes available EXPECTED OUTCOMES others and relevant agencies. Current membership of NZAOT Participate in local, regional and national forums such as inservices,conferences and NZAOT mental health special interest groups Pursue formal and self directed continuing occupational therapy education. Provide supervision to other staff,once a month ( as per NZAOT guidelines) Supervise and give clinical training to occupational therapy students on fieldwork placements Present inservices, workshops, seminars and/ or conference papers Contribute to non-referred journals or newsletters Statutory & Treaty of Waitangi obligations Ensures the professional and political integrity of WDHB by carrying out all functions in compliance of the Treaty of Waitangi and by demonstrating a serious commitment to keeping the treaty alive. PERSON SPECIFICATION POSITION TITLE: Minimum Qualification Recognised Occupational Therapy tertiary qualification NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with an annual practicing certificate Up to date occupational therapy theory and practice Preferred Courses and training relevant to forensic mental health Experience Undergraduate / postgraduate experience within the mental health sector. More than three years sector specific experience Skills/Knowledge/Behaviour Understand Te Tiriti o Waitangi and implications for practice. Self motivated and capable of working to achieve service objectives Demonstrated team player with high level of communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills Demonstrated professional experience High level of understanding of cultural/ethic practices and beliefs Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons with mental health problems.
