Whitney High School Class of 2018 Assist-a-grad Scholarship Catalog Here you will find a complete listing of scholarships available through the generous contribution of our local businesses, organizations and individuals who value higher education and want to support Whitney High School graduating seniors. ========================================================= All applications are due in the College & Career Center by 3 p.m. Thursday, March 22, 2018. Students are encouraged to apply for multiple scholarships. Due to the share the wealth philosophy of our scholarship sponsors, students will be limited in the number of scholarships they may receive. This is determined by the scholarship sponsors. If a scholarship listing says TBD in their amount column, then they will be announcing the scholarship amount and the number of scholarships at a later date. Also, if a scholarship does not require an application, the winner will be announced by the scholarship committee. Students must apply with the official 2018 Assist-a-grad Application Submit a separate application for each scholarship. ========================================================= Christian Daniels CD 9 Memorial Scholarship $500 A monetary award will be given in loving memory of former Whitney High School Class of 2012 graduate and Whitney Football Standout, Christian Daniels. A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Whitney High School with a 3.0 gpa or higher who plans a career in a variety of pathways (including, but not limited to ROTC, Athletics, Leadership or Faith). In addition to the Assist-a-grad Scholarship Application a supplemental essay on the following prompt: The importance of hard work, respect and compassion. Also, students may include specific comments or experiences with Christian Daniels. The creative page for the Assist-a-grad application is required to apply for this scholarship.

Allegiant Giving Scholarship for Tomorrow s Leaders 2@$500 This scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student. You must have a minimum 3.5 gpa. In addition to the assist-a-grad application you must include the Allegiant Giving Leadership Award Application. This application is available from Mrs. Randazzo in the College and Career Center. The winner s names will be put on a perpetual plaque that will be displayed at Whitney High School. Franck Family Dental Scholarship $1000 Kasi Franck, D.D.S Franck Family Dental of Rocklin is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a graduating senior. Applicant must have a minimum academic gpa of 3.0 or higher. In addition to the Assist-A-Grad Application, each applicant must submit a 300 word essay on the following prompt: Why I want to pursue a career in healthcare? Rocklin Lions Club Scholarship $500 A monetary award given to a graduating senior planning to attend any college. Student must have a minimum 3.0 gpa. Student must have exceeded the WHS minimum requirement for community service (more than 25 hours). Student must submit an essay on the following prompt: The importance of community service to me and my community. Essay should be the last page of your application. Citizenship and attitude will be considered as reflected in the letters of recommendation. Supplemental letters may be submitted. Nancy Archibald D.D.S. Health Science Scholarship $500 A monetary award given to a student to attend either a 2 year or 4 year college, pursuing a science major and a career in health science, must have a 3.0 minimum gpa, write an essay of 250 words minimum on How I chose my college Major. Answer the following questions: What are students long term goals and aspirations? What school activities did student participate in, sports, drama, cheer, etc. What outside activities, hobbies, group organizations, church? Also what kind of community service did student complete? Officer Matt Redding Memorial Scholarship $1000 A monetary award given in loving memory of Rocklin Police Officer Matt Redding who was killed in the line of duty in October 2005. A scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from Whitney High School who plans a career in protective service (including, but not limited to law enforcement, fire protection, medical, military) and shows potential to carry on the legacy of Matt Redding in the Rocklin community. Submit a small photo of applicant and attach to a one paragraph statement to the prompt: How I can carry on the legacy of Matt Redding. WHS AVID Scholarship in memory of Kimm Dekker $500 A monetary award given in loving memory of one of our former WHS teachers, Kimm Dekker. The student must be attending a 4 year college/university and have been in AVID for at least 3 years. Supplemental essay is required. Prompt: Where do your passions lie? What areas are you avid about?

Whitney Leadership Scholarship 2@TBD$ The WHS Leadership Scholarship is a scholarship that is awarded to a standout WHS Leadership student. The student embodies the traits of a top Student Leader who exemplifies the goals of the WHS Leadership program to create a culture and climate of inclusivity and acceptance for all students attending Whitney High School. The student must have a minimum of 2 years of experience in the WHS Leadership program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition to the application you must include an essay In a 5 paragraph essay please explain what the Whitney High School Leadership program has meant to you and how it has changed you as a student and as a young adult. Please also describe what this program means to our campus as if you were encouraging another student to get involved in the program. Rocklin Association of Professional Administrators $500 A monetary award given to a graduating senior planning a career as an educator. A 3.0 grade point average or better is required. Student must have demonstrated leadership in school sponsored activities. Student must have demonstrated involvement in community youth activities. Interview required. Rocklin Teachers Professional Association 2 @ $1000 A monetary award given to a graduating senior who plans to pursue a career in education. Student must have a 3.0 or better grade point average. Student may attend any college or university to receive award. Must have two letters of recommendation that address the student s potential to be a teacher. Interview Required. Rotary Club of South Placer 2@500 2 @ $1000 As part of our dedication to excellence in education, and following the Rotary motto of Service above Self, the Rotary Club of South Placer is offering 3 scholarships. The scholarships are intended for current year high school seniors who plan to continue their education. Although scholastic achievement is considered we are looking for students who display excellence in leadership, community service, extra-curricular activities, and/or personal achievement. Also, financial need will be closely evaluated. Student must be planning to enroll full-time (12 units) within the first year of the awarding of this scholarship. Students who are awarded scholarships are requested to attend our Rotary Club meeting held on Wednesdays, at the Rocklin Golf Club in Rocklin. Supplemental Rotary confidential financial statement is required. Supplemental materials available in the College and Career Center. Interview required. Rotary Club of South Placer Interact Club Student of the Year $1000 You must have been in the interact club to apply for this scholarship and must have been a club officer. Supplemental Rotary Application, essay requirement and confidential financial statement are required. Supplemental materials available in the College and Career Center. Interview required.

Springfield at Whitney Oaks 4@$1000 This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has excelled in the classroom and has performed community service, been active in extracurricular activities or is employed. A minimum gpa of 3.0 is required. Student may attend a two year or four year college. Additionally, the applicant must provide a narrative addressing why he/she should be awarded this scholarship. Interview required. Springfield at Whitney Oaks Darlene O Leary Memorial Music Scholarship $1000 This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has excelled in the classroom and is interested in a career in music. A minimum gpa of 3.0 is required. A one page supplemental statement explaining the student s area of interest and future plans should be included. Student may attend a two or four year college/university. Springfield at Whitney Oaks Jan & Ernie Maxwell Memorial Scholarship $1500 This scholarship is awarded to a student who has excelled in the classroom and is interested in a career in Fine Arts. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. A supplemental statement explaining the student s preparation and future plans should be included. The student may attend a 2 year, 4 year, or specialized college. Springfield at Whitney Oaks Diane Thompson Memorial Scholarship $500 This scholarship is awarded to a student who has excelled in community service as well as in the classroom. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. The student may attend a 2 year, 4 year or specialized college. A supplemental statement is required stating why he/she should be awarded this scholarship. Rainforth Grau $1000 This scholarship is offered by the Architecture firm that designed Whitney High School. This special award is provided to a student who plans to continue on to a four year university to major in Engineering or Architecture. The student must rank in the upper part of his or her class scholastically with outstanding personal character. No interview. Rocklin Swim Team Scholarship $500 A monetary award given to a graduating senior who has participated at least one year on the Rocklin Swim Team Program and is currently on the WHS Swim Team. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Supplemental Essay (one page) describing your WAVE participation and/or WHS Swim Team experiences. Interview Required. Rocklin Police Officers Association Scholarship $1000 A monetary award given to a graduating senior who plans to enter a two or four year college or university. Include a one page essay about yourself and your career plans. Rocklin Public Safety Volunteers Incorporated Scholarship $1000 This scholarship is open to Whitney High School and Rocklin High School seniors. A monetary award given to a graduating senior from either high school that plans a career in protective service (law enforcement, fire protection or military). Include a one page essay on your plans for a career in public safety.

Trevor Wildberger Memorial Scholarship $500 A monetary award will be given in memory of Trevor Wildberger for an individual who represents the way Trevor lived his life, inspiring others with the platform put in front of them. We are looking for one individual who would like to further their education (including but not limited to, an academic 4 year, 2 year school or technical school) and use this next step in their academic life to impact even more people after high school. We want someone who has shown a positive outlook in past difficulties that will translate into future leadership roles. Preferably, this individual will have played a varsity sport and have overcome something at Whitney High School that will translate into greater success for others. Include a short essay about who Trevor was and the impact he has made on the community of Rocklin. Whitney Jr. Wildcats Scholarship $500 A monetary award will be given to a Whitney High School graduating senior who participated in the Whitney Jr. Wildcats program as a football player, cheerleader, or student instructor. The student must have a minimum of a 3.0 gpa, a minimum of 50 hours of community service, and plans to attend a trade school, or a two or four year college. The application should include information about their participation and experience in the Whitney Jr. Wildcats program, including squad assignments and years of participation. Rocklin Historical Society Scholarship $500 This scholarship is open to a Whitney High School senior and is sponsored by the Rocklin Historical Society. This is a monetary award given to a student attending any college with an emphasis in the areas of history, teaching of history, law, criminal justice and political science. Student must have a minimum of 3.0 gpa and involvement in community service in Rocklin. Please include a brief essay of no more than one page on why you have chosen the above area of study and what you plan to do with your degree. Include a letter of recommendation from a history teacher from Whitney High School. The George K. Oki Scholarship 2@1500 This scholarship will be awarded to one male and one female student. Recipients of this scholarship are to be involved, enthusiastic and well-rounded with a history of, and future promise of achievement in multiple areas. The scholarship committee will be selecting students based on GPA, community and social involvement, artistic, musical and athletic talent, as well as academic achievement, financial need, and /or outstanding traits such as school and community service, creative expression and leadership. Minimum of 3.0 GPA. Must be attending a 4 year college or university in the fall of 2018 and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Include an essay that describes how you are involved, enthusiastic and well-rounded with a history of, and future promise of achievement in multiple areas. You may include what you would like to do upon graduation, which college/university you would like to attend, and your reason and the kind of employment you hope to obtain after you complete your education.

Heidi Greenwood Memorial Scholarship $1,000 A monetary award will be given in loving memory of a former Rocklin High School student, Heidi Greenwood, who passed away in 2013. Scholarship(s) will be awarded to graduating senior(s) from Whitney High School with plans to further their education. Applicants must be cross-country runners (not track runners). In addition to the Assist-a-grad Scholarship application, a supplemental essay on the following prompt is required: Heidi Greenwood was a talented and driven runner; and a person who sought out opportunities to help others. For this scholarship in her honor, please write one paragraph that describes how running has impacted your life. And then write a second paragraph that describes your efforts to help or serve others. ========================================================= One of your applications must be originals and given to Mrs. Randazzo. The other applications should be copies of your original application. Copies of your transcript and letters of recommendation are acceptable. Do not submit your only copy of anything as applications will NOT be returned to you. If your scholarship requires an additional essay, statement, letter of recommendation, or other information, you must provide it or you will be disqualified. Some scholarships are only offered to students attending a four-year school in the Fall of 2018. If you receive this scholarship but do not enroll in a four-year school next fall, you will not be able to accept this scholarship and it will be awarded to the alternate. Additionally, scholarship winners must write a thank you letter to the scholarship sponsor, (not a paragraph!).
