Context and Scope HammondCare is an independent Christian charity specialising in dementia care, palliative care, rehabilitation, specialist mental health for older people and other health and aged services. The organisation provides these services through sub-acute hospitals, residential care and innovative community services in NSW and has a particular commitment to dementia care and research as well as to older people who are financially disadvantaged. Summary of Position The role of the Recreational Activities Officer (RAO) is to work within the Mission and Mission in Action of HammondCare to ensure a high standard of Recreational Activities service is provided to patients of the Hospital, along with appropriate support and advice to their carers. The RAO will participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure a patient centred, evidence based, continuous quality improvement work environment that is consistent with the values and ethics of HammondCare. The essence of this role: Provision of effective and efficient Recreational Activities service to clients and appropriate support and advice to their carers Participate as a member of the multi-disciplinary team in facilitating opportunities for patient to participate in leisure and recreational activities. Participate as a member of the HammondCare team in the application of the organisation s Mission and values to the pursuit Responsibilities Capability Outcomes 1.0 Patient/Client/Resident Care Contribute to patient care as part of a multidisciplinary team and maintain good communication with medical, nursing, allied health and other staff, and voluntary workers. Identify the leisure needs, preferences and capabilities of referred clients. Plan and facilitate individual participation in age appropriate and engaging leisure activities and recreational pursuits in consultation with the client. Plan and implement a regular group activity program relevant to assigned clinical service area in liaison with allocated clinical supervisor and multidisciplinary team. Referrals are addressed in a timely manner in accordance with protocols for designated Builds trusting relationships with patients and their families/carers to support effective care provision. Has effective working relationships with the MDT and the MDT value the service provided. Actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings for designated
Responsibilities Capability Outcomes Plan and implement outings and special events in consultation with team members and volunteer services coordinator within allocated Review clients engagement in leisure activities on a regular basis and modify activity or group program accordingly. Report on patient condition and progress through direct communication with team members and through comprehensive documentation in the Medical Record. Respect and maintain patient confidentiality and privacy Completes documentation of comprehensive RAO program and interventions in patient medical files in accordance with HammondCare and department policies. Appropriate outings occur for patients within the allocated Group activity program is implemented within allocated Medical records indicate that patients referred to RAO receive a comprehensive RAO service that addresses the patients leisure and recreation needs and contributes to specialist multidisciplinary care. As part of the RAO team assists with cover as required e.g. during periods of leave, to ensure all patients have access to RAO services. 2.0 Operational Management Activities Participate in development and promotion of leisure and recreational therapy services. Participate in regular evaluation of the leisure and recreation group program. Exhibit a commitment to quality service and participate in activities to enhance continuous quality improvement. Attend and contribute to team, case, department and other meetings as needed. Read and understand the Policy and Procedures Manual(s) for the Department and HammondCare, and work within the principles contained therein. Contribute to regular review of policies and procedures appropriate for the service. Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and statistics on patient care. Participate in department and team education programmes Behaviour and performance are consistent with professional expectations, HammondCare s MIA and Capability Framework Attends and participates in relevant meetings. Undertakes department support and development activities as directed by supervisor or Occupational Therapy Manager and complete in agreed time frames. Prepare and lead education sessions as agreed with supervisor. Participates in minimum of one Quality Improvement activity annually. Monthly statistics are completed in specified time
Responsibilities Capability Outcomes Clean and maintain department equipment, tools supplies and materials and notify Occupational Therapy Manager of the need for additional supplies, replacements and repairs. Maintain and update resource and equipment files. Assist in development of further department resources and therapy aids. frame and will accurately reflect workload. 3.0 Professional development/education Maintain and update knowledge by regular reference to journals and texts. Identify skills and knowledge required to fulfil the role and to attend appropriate staff development determined during ADM (and linked with the Occupational Therapy Department and/or service business plan) and/or supervision sessions. Actively participate in continuing professional development. Contribute to the education of students, assistants, volunteers and others as appropriate. Provide in-services to other departments and organisations as requested. Participate in mandatory training as required. Participates in department professional development program and activities. Participates in clinical supervision with designated Senior Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Manager according to agreed schedule. Attends relevant education to develop skills and knowledge, as agreed in ADM, and uses what you learn. Prepares and leads education sessions as agreed with supervisor. Mandatory training is completed within the required time frames. 4.0 Other Ensure the efficient use of supplies. Ensure all interactions portray HammondCare as a professional and caring provider of Palliative, Rehabilitation, Aged Care Psychiatry and Aged Care services. Comply with formal complaints and grievance procedures of the organisation Communicates openly and honestly with supervisor, manager and colleagues. Notifies supervisor and manager of any incidents, issues or complaints immediately and participates in subsequent investigation and response process.
