APRIL 8, 2016 ALL STAFF MEETING THURSDAY APRIL 21, 2016 The next All Staff Meeting will be held at 7:45 AM in the River Room. Coffee will be served beginning at 7:30 AM. BENEFITS ENROLLMENT The Open Enrollment Period for all benefits eligible staff has been extended to April 15. During this time, employees who wish to make any changes to their current medical or dental benefits, sign up for or drop benefits, can do so. Please note that after this open enrollment period changes can only be made to your benefit selections due to a qualifying life event. (Change to marital status; birth; death; change in spouse s benefits.) All benefits eligible staff members should complete the attached form even if you have no changes to your current elections. Any benefits eligible employee that is waiving Mystic Seaport s benefits will need to complete the waiver as well. Please return all forms to Human Resources by Friday April 15. If you have any questions regarding your benefits or what is offered by Mystic Seaport or need to make any changes, please contact Jeanne Gade at ext. 5332. PAYROLL CHANGES Mystic Seaport recently changed payroll vendors. The April 8 paycheck is being issued by Paychex. Employees should thoroughly review their paycheck or pay advice and report any errors to Human Resources as soon as possible. Employees who are enrolled in Direct Deposit should check with their financial institution to ensure all funds have been deposited correctly. Vacation, sick and personal accruals are being review and corrected and should be included on the April 22 paycheck. There will not be any medical, dental or vision deductions for the month of April. Deductions will resume on the May 6 paycheck. Your patience is greatly appreciated while this transition takes place.

CT HUMANITIES GRANT I m pleased to announce that CT Humanities has awarded Mystic Seaport a $10,415 planning grant for the Packard cabin project. This, plus matching funds raised by Advancement, will fund improvements in the visitor and interpreter experience in the 2 nd floor Stillman gallery such as improved signage, refreshed visual aids, and better seating. It will also enable the project team to prototype different approaches to create a long-term exhibit in that space that will 1) help tell the story of the cabin and the ship in greater detail, 2) provide the broader context of the changes in America s deepwater cargo ships from clippers to container ships, and 3) display more of our shipmodel collection. Improvements will begin this May, with prototyping scheduled for this summer. The grant ends in October. Many thanks to the interpreters, MTs, volunteers, and others who have contributed their ideas and shared their enthusiasm over the past few months. And to Maria Petrillo, Fred Calabretta, Claire Calabretta, and Susan Kietzman for their hard work on the successful grant proposal. More progress reports to follow! -Elysa Engelman 2016 NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK APRIL 10-16, 2016 Join me this week to thank your volunteers for all their hard work, dedication, and love for Mystic Seaport! -EveAnne Stouch WILLIAMS MYSTIC BI-ANNUAL LECTURE Staff are invited to attend the lecture hosted by Williams Mystic. PILOTS STAFF FELLOWSHIP The PILOTS Staff Fellowship will be accepting applications for the spring. This program recognizes the important role that all Museum colleagues play in the success of Mystic Seaport. Please forward applications to Jeanne Gade. Information can be found on the intranet http://www.mysticseaport.org/staff/

BOOK CLUB Please join the Seaport Book Club for a lively discussion of "H is for Hawk," by Helen MacDonald. (Heart-wrenching and humorous, this book is an unflinching account of bereavement and a unique look at the magnetism of an extraordinary beast, with a parallel examination of a legendary writer's eccentric falconry. Obsession, madness, memory, myth, and history combine to achieve a distinctive blend of nature writing and memoir from an outstanding literary innovator. ) Goodreads review We will gather in the Keener Room at 5 p.m. on April 14 for an informal discussion and sharing of potluck snacks and beverages. Everyone is welcome to all of our meetings. Our next selections are: "The Movement of Stars", by Amy Brill, for May 12 "Ninety-Percent of Everything," by Rose George for June 16. -Phyllis Sailer CORINTHIANS REGATTA A SUCCESS (DESPITE THE WEATHER!) On Saturday April 2 members of the Corinthians came to Mystic Seaport for a regatta. The Corinthians is a non-commercial membership association of over five hundred amateur yachtsmen and women (beginners and experts) whose primary objectives are to promote sailing, to encourage good fellowship among yachtsmen afloat and ashore, and to introduce non-boat-owning amateur sailors and boatowners needing crew. Despite the cold temperatures, pouring rain and windy conditions, 10 stalwart Corinthians raced in our Dyer Dhows, with many others cheering them on and enjoying good food and company. Miraculously there was only one capsize! All had a great time. A huge thank you to Hallie Payne for coordinating and leading the entire event, and to the following staff for working that day: Wes Pfiffner, Ahna Rieder, Katie Zirkel, and Hannah King.
