From our roots in the technical colleges and Leicester Polytechnic, De Montfort University is now a leader in modern university research, professional studies and the creative arts. Alumni Ambassadors DMU now has alumni in more than 130 countries around the world and in the past year we ve seen a flurry of activity. A lot of this activity is down to the Ambassadors in these countries, volunteers who graduated from DMU and want to help others find their way around the world. All of our Ambassadors are happy to give help to graduates visiting the country, or to organise reunions and events for graduates who have settled in their part of the world. New Ambassador Abhishek Jagnani said I did my MSc in International Business and Management in 2003 and three years ago I joined my family business. I look after the international business division of our company. If any DMU graduate visits India then I will be happy to take care of them and help them however I can. Invitations to alumni reunions and events The University and the Alumni Association organise numerous reunions and events throughout the year including: Formal and informal reunions on and off-campus organised by your year of graduation or your subject of study, such as our very well attended Architecture reunion University Events such as the celebrated Distinguished Lecture Series, Cultural exchanges, Fashion Degree Shows, DSU Varsity Matches and many more. Help finding lost friends and organising your own reunions The Alumni Association keeps a massive database of graduates from DMU and all its constituent campuses. If you ve lost touch with your friends from university, we can help you get back in contact through our Find a Friend service. We can also help you organise your own reunion by sending invitations, booking venues, and arranging entertainment. Postgraduate courses and Alumni Scholarships DMU can help you build on your studies, undertake a research programme, further your career or perhaps pursue a career change. DMU has a huge range of academic and professional courses and research programmes to meet your needs. And what s more, DMU is committed to supporting its graduates to enhance their personal development through further study. We are therefore delighted to offer DMU alumni a 500 scholarship towards the full tuition fees on certain types of postgraduate courses.
Campus Enterprise Opportunities (CEO) Make your move into starting or running your own business easier and more successful with CEO. Whether you have an interest in enterprise or a launch-ready idea CEO provides you with endless free inspiration, connections, knowledge, resources and support. CEO organises events such as Millionaire Mind, Meet the Entrepreneurs and the Business Venture Competition, as well as offering free resources and information to help you start your business. CEO also offers a variety of Business start-up support ranging from free facilities in DMU s Innovation Centre in which to develop and grow your business to one-to-one sessions that will lead you through the early stages of the business start up process. They also run a Start-up Surgery and a Business Banking Surgery in conjunction with Barclays Bank to give you invaluable one-to-one session time to answer all of your questions. Faculty-specific benefits In our 2007 Alumni Survey, you told us that you wanted a more personal touch to the services we provide for you. One way in which we re meeting your request is to offer you faculty-specific benefits. We re working closely with all five University faculties to ensure that you get the most from your faculty after you ve graduated. The Faculty of Art and Design are helping us ensure that all alumni are invited to their Degree Show, while the Institute of Creative Technologies, which bridges all five faculties, is always happy to extend an invitation to alumni to attend their lecture series. The Faculty of Humanities are opening their doors for the Cultural exchanges programme, as well as dance and drama performances. Students Union ILM Courses De Montfort Students Union is now a registered centre with the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). As a result they are able to provide a series of level 3 accredited sessions in the Introduction to First Line Management and are extending this opportunity for personal development to alumni. Sessions currently available include: Understanding communication in the workplace Problem solving and decision making Managing health and safety Working with costs and budgets Achieving objectives through time management Managing creativity and innovation in the workplace. These courses can be taken as individual units or as an Award and include guided learning hours, private study and assessment.
