Group Overview The IHW Group traces its origins to the establishment of Takagi Ophthalmological Clinic in Okawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, in 1910. Thereafter multiple health and welfare facilities were established, including Takagi Hospital. In 1995, the International University of Health and Welfare (IUHW) was founded as Japan s first comprehensive university specializing in medical care and welfare, aspiring to train various medical and welfare professionals and improve their status. In addition to five university hospitals in Tokyo, Chiba, Tochigi and Shizuoka prefectures, the IHW Group also operates Sanno Hospital, Sanno Birth Center and Sanno Medical Center, which offer highly specialized medical care coupled with warm and attentive services. The IHW Group also operates more than 20 other hospitals and facilities, predominantly in Tokyo, Tochigi and Fukuoka prefectures. All 10,000 staff members and 8,300 students in our Group share both the university s principles of focusing on wellbalanced individuals with a solid sense of humanity, directing towards the attainment of global standard, being strongly connected to and fully open to the community, and building a society for mutual respect and support, and also our hospitals and medical facilities principle of dignity and equality of life. Conveniently located a three-minute walk from Tokyo Metro Akasaka-mitsuke Station, the area is home to various facilities that epitomize central Tokyo, including the National Diet Building, television stations and large-scale commercial complexes. The campus has facilities such as Akasaka Hall, Lifelong Learning Center and International Exchange Center, which can also be used by the local community. The hospital is renowned as a maternity hospital and has many physicians with a wealth of experience, as well as a high care unit (HCU) and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
