4 th IRTAD CONFERENCE Seoul, 16-17 September 2009 Background The International Traffic Safety Data and Analysis Group (known as the IRTAD Group) is a permanent working group of the Joint Transport Research of the OECD and the International Transport Forum focusing on all issues related to safety data collection and analysis. It oversees the IRTAD database, one of the most reliable and widely-used road safety databases. IRTAD is open to all countries and the objective of the Group is to progressively extend the coverage of the IRTAD database to more countries with good accident data reporting systems. When appropriate IRTAD offers a learning process so that a new member of IRTAD can progressively provide data which meet the IRTAD standards. The IRTAD Group regularly organises Conferences in order to discuss with a wider audience issues related to data reporting and the use of data in developing road safety policy. The focus of this 4 th Conference is on the use of data for target setting and monitoring. Objectives of the Conference The objectives of the Conference are: To discuss the use of safety data to set targets and monitor road safety performance To examine successful data reporting system and methodologies To encourage knowledge transfer for data collection and analysis To promote the IRTAD activities in non-oecd countries Expected audience 300 participants including: road safety experts, road safety statisticians, road safety researchers and road safety policy makers. Languages The official languages of the Conference are English and Korean.
Call for Papers The Conference will feature keynote papers as well as papers focusing on: Road safety data collection/reporting, e.g. - Crash data - Underreporting - Injury data - Exposure data - Audits data (transport company, road) - Near incident data - linking different data sources - Data on road safety performance Analysis of road safety data - classifying types and kinds of accident - identifying blackspots and high risk network - defining safety problems and treatment - selecting and prioritizing alternatives - monitoring road safety performances - assessing effectiveness of interventions - considering regression-to-mean and migration effect - analysing data to support road safety policies - sharing data for completing quality chain international comparisons - best practices and organization models The Organising Committee welcomes the submission of abstracts for conference papers and will proceed to a selection of papers to be presented at the Conference.
