Scholarship List March 23 2018 STEPHEN PHILLIPS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND The Stephen Phillips Memorial Scholarship Fund offers college scholarships to students with financial need who display academic excellence, a demonstrated sense of service to those around them, good character, and a strong work ethic. Eligibility includes academic excellence (GPA 3.0 or higher). The intent of this award is to enable students to attend college without accumulating burdensome debt. For information and applications, go to website: www.phillips-scholarship.org. Information is also available in Guidance. DEADLINE: Applications should be submitted online no later than May 1, 2018. DESIREE MESOLELLA ART SCHOLARSHIP Two $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to RI high school seniors who will pursue a college degree in the art field. These awards are not based on financial need, but focus on the student s artistic ability, academics, and artistic passion. Applicants shall have applied to an accredited 4 year college or school majoring in an art field. Areas of study include: Art, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Photographic Studies, Textile Design, Studio Arts or Commercial Arts. Included with each applicant s submission shall be a portfolio of no fewer than 6 works for review. CD format will be accepted. Portfolio artwork may include drawings, painting, photography, ceramics, digital works, mixed media, printmaking, sculptures, etc. Self-portraits, still lives and figure studies are recommended. Each applicant must present documentation of a successful minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must submit a one-page Artist s Statement of Commitment to art detailed as following: List any art related activities or awards received, and any exhibits or festivals participated in. What motivates you as an aspiring artist? Please include a description of artists and/or work that you admire, and your academic and artistic goals. Caswell Award-This award, a $500 scholarship, will be given to a Narragansett High School Senior for an act of heroism or outstanding service to the community. The award will be given in honor of William S. Caswell, a Narragansett Pier Railroad Engineer, who, on November 29, 2967, at great risk to his own life, went into a burning vehicle to rescue four children. This award is established by the children he rescued in eternal gratitude for his heroism. DEADLINE-March 23 rd

The San Souci Memorial Scholarship is a tribute to Anne and Will San Souci, who were residents of Narragansett for over 40 years. Both Anne and Will valued higher education and had a life-long love of reading and time spent at the town s beach. Preference will be given to seniors who will be enrolled in an accredited program of nursing or attend Providence College following graduation. Applications are available from Mrs. Pratley in Guidance. Deadline April 23, 2018 JANICE M. SCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND (JMSMSF) -Mrs. Janice Scott was killed during one of the three attacks by terrorists on the morning of September 11, 2001. In honor of Mrs. Scott's commitment to the children of her community, the family created the Janice M. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund in October 2001. The selection process is based primarily on a "need basis'', however other criteria include academics, leadership abilities through participating in community services or other extra-curricular activities, and writing skill. Each applicant must submit an essay (500-1000 words)"describing his or her planned undergraduate study and how he or she plans to apply it upon graduation." Or: Who is your role-model and how he or she has influenced/impacted your life". The individual cannot ne a relative. Applications may be picked up in Guidance from Mrs. Pratley. Deadline: application packet must be received or postmarked on or before March 31, 2018 Academic Advantage College Scholarship Grant. The criteria for this award is as follows: Good Academic Record, Extra-Curricular Activities, Community Service and School Recommendation. The winner will receive the grant upon signing a commitment letter to a 4 year college or institution. This Grant will be award to the winner directly so it will not affect any financial aid package. Deadline 4/15/2018 The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation is announcing the 2 nd annual statewide Public Service Announcement Video Contest. This year s topic is Driving Responsibly. Information is available in Guidance. DEADLINE: March 30 th, 2018.

DAR SUSAN B. WILSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD - The recipient of this $1,000 award will have shown achievement in their school studies and community service. Pick up your application in the guidance office. Deadline for submission: applications must be turned in to Mrs. Pratley in guidance on or before Thursday, March 29, 2018. Paul F. Ronci Scholarship-The Paul F. Ronci Scholarship Trust has been established by the parents of Paul F. Ronci, to provide an annual scholarship to a full-time student who has attained academic excellence, demonstrates financial need, is a Rhode Island resident, aspires to further the good of humanity and who otherwise displays leadership skills and a desire to better society. Applications can be found at paulfroncischolarship.org. DEADLINE: Completed applications are due by March 31, 2018. RI SALTWATER ANGLERS ASSOC. FISHERIES & MARINE SCIENCES AWARD The awards are in the amount of $500.00 each, and the recipients will be selected based on merit and need. The awards shall be presented to seniors who will attend URI or Roger Williams University, in either a Marine Biology, Marine Affairs or in Fisheries and Agriculture programs, within one year. Each applicant must submit a hand-written composition that describes his or her reason(s) for applying for this scholarship & his or her plans or goals for the future. Visit the Guidance Office an application. Deadline: your applications must be received no later than May 5, 2018. Leona A. Kelley Memorial Scholarships are offered to two high school seniors. In South county. The Kelley Memorial Scholarship seeks to encourage and reward local students for preserving the environment or conducting research on the history of South County, Rhode Island. The $500 scholarships can be used by students to pay for educational expenses other than travel at a two or four year college. Applications must be postmarked by March 28, 2018. LESA MENG / NARROW RIVER PRESERVATION ASSOCIATION (NRPA) SCHHOLARSHIP The mission of the NRPA is to preserve the quality of the communities & natural environment within the Pettaquamscutt watershed. This amount of this scholarship is $1,000.00. Among other submissions requirements (see packet in Guidance), candidates must submit an original one page typed essay in response to the following question: Choose one environmental problem/issue relevant to the Narrow River and discuss what you as an individual could do to mitigate the problem. KATIE DECUBELLIS MEMORIAL FOUNDATION (4 SCHOLARSHIPS) Application Deadline: KDMF applications for scholarships 1, 2, 3 & 4 listed below must be returned to the Guidance Office no later than Friday, April 27 th, 2018. The Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation is a local non-profit organization established in the memory of Katie DeCubellis, a 13-year old Narragansett student killed by a drunk driver on October 29, 1999. The organization seeks to help others and to make our community a better place in which to live. The Foundation has set out to educate people on the dangers of drunk driving and substance abuse. KDMF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP A $1,500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior who will be matriculating in a technical school or two-to four-year college and shall be renewable for three years resulting in a total reward of $6000. Applicants are required to submit an essay (two page minimum): in this essay, please explain how your community is a better place because of the contributions you have made throughout your high school career, and explain your educational goals for the future. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to community service, extracurricular activities, and maintain a B or better average. KDMF NOBODY S GLORY EVERYBODY S GAIN SCHOLARSHIP Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors about to further their education in a technical program or in a two-or four-year college program. Candidates must be that person who always steps up and gets the job done! It is intended for the student that helps out whenever and wherever needed within their school community. Is your school a better place because of your efforts? Candidates must include in their application an essay explaining how their community is a better place because of the contributions they have made throughout their high school career and a statement/testimonial from a school staff person.

KDMF MAKE A DIFFERENCE SCHOLARSHIP Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to seniors about to further their education in a technical program or in a two-or four-year college program. Candidates must be CURRENT active members in their school s SADD, youth-to-youth, natural helpers or other school organizations specifically targeted to substance abuse prevention and/or good-decision making. Candidates must include in their application an essay (approximately 250 words) explaining how their community is a better place because of the contributions they have made throughout their high school career. KDMF VICTIM RELIEF SCHOLARSHIP A $1,000 scholarship will to a senior pursuing an education in a technical program or in a 2 or 4-year college program who has been physically, emotionally, an/or financially affected by an incident involving a driver who was operating while impaired. Each candidate should submit an essay expressing how you have been physically, emotionally and/or financially affected by a crash involving a driver who was operating while impaired. Catherine T. Murray Memorial Scholarship The Catherine t. Murray is now accepting scholarship applications. Qualified applicants for this $1000 scholarship must be Rhode Island residents with significant disability and seeking financial assistance to attend college or technical school. Preference is based on merit, economic need and educational goals. OSCIL board, staff and their families are excluded. Applications are available at www.oscil.org. DEADLINE: Applications must be postmarked by March 28, 2018 2018 RI MOBILE SPORTFISHERMEN (RIMS) Fisheries & Marine Sciences Scholarship Available for seniors who have maintained a GPS of 3.0 or higher and have been accepted in a marine science or fisheries program in an institute of higher learning. Applicants must show self motivation, good work ethic and be a good role model for their peers. Preference may be given toward financial need, and to those who have interest in pursuing their careers in the state of Rhode Island. The amount of this award is $500.00. WASHINGTON COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP The Association is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior in the amount of $1,000.00. The boy or girl selected for this award will have been selected for acceptance in September 11 at a Post- Secondary Technical School approved by the State Dept. of Education, or at an accredited Community or Junior College. A student who will enroll in a four-year college is not eligible for this award. The following criteria will be used in selecting a senior for this award: demonstration of excellent citizenship qualities as a student, creditable academic work, financial need to attend college or technical school and participation in community activity or extra-curricular school activity. Applicants must write a short paragraph on his or her life plans for the next ten years. Please visit the Guidance Office for more information/application. Deadline: Application must be received by May 1st, 2018 NARRAGANSETT ATHLETIC BOOSTERS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP Note: do not write your name anywhere on the documents you submit. Among the criteria: applicants must have earned an NHS varsity letter, must be in good academic standing (minimum GPA 2.0), must have demonstrated integrity, perseverance, and good citizenship in the classroom, in athletics, and in the community. Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated good sportsmanship and leadership. Applicants are required to submit an essay (one page- double spaced) on the following: Describe your future goals, how you have prepared to meet these goals, and, most importantly, what role sports have played in this preparation. NARRAGANSETT LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP The Narragansett Lions Club is a local service organization that seeks to make our community a better place to live. Each year, the Lions provide a number of $500 scholarships to residents about to further their education in a technical program or in a 2 or 4 year college program. Each applicant will submit an essay (2 page maximum) about the following: Please explain how your community is a better place because of the contributions you have made throughout your high school career. TERENCE M. HANDRIGAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD An award of $1,000 will be awarded to a senior a student who has overcome significant problems during his/her time at the high school and despite these problems has successfully completed his/her high school education. There are no specific criteria in mind. Rather, consideration will encompass the particular circumstances of all applicants in making the decision. Common examples would include personal or family problems, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, substance abuse, or economic problems requiring a student to balance working with school work. Included in the application must be an essay (2-page minimum) on the following: please describe the obstacles you overcame in order to graduate high school; how you overcame these obstacles; and what your goals and plans are for after graduation. Candidates include seniors who will be going on to a four-year college program, a two-year college program, a trade school, or some type of apprenticeship program. Visit the Guidance Office for more information/application. Deadline: April 17, 2018. The Narragansett Running Association Scholarships: The Narragansett Running Association, a local non-profit committed to supporting the health and wellness of student athletes involved with running activities, is awarding one time $500 scholarships to two seniors at NHS and 2 seniors at SKHS planning to further their education in a technical program or in a 2 or 4 year college program. These scholarships are for students who participated in Cross Country, Indoor Track or Outdoor Track during their junior or senior years. Applications are available in the Guidance office and online at www.gansettrunning.org. DEADLINE May 11, 2018. ROTARY CLUB OF WAKEFIELD SERVICE ABOVE SELF ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP The objective of this award is to provide a four-year $1,000 annual award to a deserving high school senior. The recipient should most represent the ROTARY motto of Service above Self, and the money is to be used for education at a four year college or university. Student must be a resident of Narragansett or South Kingstown. Students applying will be judged primarily on the characteristic of service to others. Application deadline: turned into Guidance no later than Thursday, April 12, 2018 ROTARY CLUB OF WAKEFIELD CAREER AND TECH SCHOLARSHIP The objective of this award is to provide a two-year $1,000 annual award to a deserving high school senior who is a resident of Narragansett or South Kingstown. The lifestyle of the recipient should reflect the Rotary Motto of Service above Self. The award is to be used for the recipient s postsecondary education in a program at a Career/Tech school or apprenticeship. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. DEADLINE: Applications must be returned to Guidance by Thursday April 12, 2018

ARBUTUS GARDEN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP The club will again be awarding two $1,000 scholarships to graduating seniors interested in pursuing a career in the field of natural resources. This may include a career in horticulture, agriculture, marine biology, or environmental sciences. Each applicant will be judged on financial need, interest and aptitude. DEADLINE: applications must be returned to guidance no later than April 10, 2018. RICHARD DURFEE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship has been established for Narragansett High School Graduates accepted at any accredited university to major in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) in the amount of $1000. Applications are available in Guidance. Deadline: to be turned into Mrs. Pratley, Guidance Secretary no later than Friday, May 11, 2018 THE MARTIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP-Offers $5000 to a Narragansett senior who has been accepted to an accredited, 4 year college and has financial need. Potential candidates must also demonstrate hard work, perseverance and have a record of academic achievement. (although GPA or class rank will not be the only factors considered when awarding the scholarship) This scholarship is intended to offset college/university costs. Each applicant must submit a one page rationale why they feel they are deserving of this scholarship as well as a copy of their academic transcript to date. Box 23, Narragansett, RI 02882 Military Spouses of Newport Freshman Scholarship is offered to High School seniors who will graduate June 2018 with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. The student must be a DDRS Dependent child possessing a current, valid military ID card of an active, retired or deceased member of any branch of the military based in Rhode Island. DEADLINE April 13, 2018 Rhode Island Association of School Maintenance Directors Scholarship Program Information and applications are available in the Guidance Office. Applicants will be judged on the following: ACT and SAT scores, GPA, Curriculum, Financial need, Extracurricular activities and work experience, Essay. DEADLINE: April 1 st 2018

SOUTH COUNTY HOSPITAL SCHOLARSHIP This award (last year s first place recipient was awarded $1200, with additional monies of lesser amount awarded) is presented to a graduating senior interested in working in the health care field. Applicant must be a South County resident and must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a health care profession such as medicine, dentistry, nursing, or physical therapy. Academic performance, extracurricular activities, and a 500 word essay submission (detailing your interest in the health profession) will determine the finalist. Also included in your application packet must be 2 letters of recommendation. Visit the Guidance Office for an application. Deadline: All applications are to be returned to Mrs. Pratley be the end of the day April 6th. JASON DOUGLAS FOREMAN SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship in the amount of $1000 is available to up to four graduating seniors from Narragansett or South Kingstown who will be attending a Trade School, Two Year Vocational School or two Year College Technical program. Applications are available from Mrs. Pratley in the Guidance Office. Deadline May 1st, 2018 RHODE ISLAND SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL ENGINEERS SCHOLARSHIP is available for high school seniors who wish to pursue a college degree in engineering. Applications are available in Guidance. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by March 23, 2018. SLOCUM GRANGE #36 SCHOLARSHIP One scholarship in the amount of $500.00 shall be awarded to one senior. The award will be based on financial need, scholastic standing, extra-curricular activities, The applicant must be accepted into a school of higher learning in the field of Agriculture or Environment. Early Enrollment Program Scholarship This scholarship is open to all seniors who have enrolled in at least one EEP course during their high school career. Each scholarship, which is $1000.00 is renewable for three more years provided the student maintains a 3.0 GPA at the end of each academic year.
