A SMP meeting was held on 02 November 2017 at 22 Area SMP Rec Center Bldg. 22174. Sgt Agregado called the meeting to order at 1332. Warehouses stay away from the bats and rats in these areas. Any contact with these animals results in rabies shots. MCRD recently had 215 recruits become ill from a handwashing station that they were also using for drinking water. Please be aware of sanitation and realize it is flu season. 4. Marine Corps Community Services is using this month to highlight their existing program to help service members quit tobacco. Food for the first 200 active duty personnel that show up. Also exchange any one tobacco products for an exchange gift card. 9. Register at www.tuntavernten.com 11/17 Knott s Berry Farm Celebrating the 28th anniversary, Knott s is the only amusement park that opens its doors for free to all military personnel both active and retired for the month of November! Few places have this kind of lasting tribute to veterans/active duty. $5.00 per person includes transportation and Free Active Duty park entrance. Group departs Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 at 0730 and will return at 2200. Registration currently open. 11/23 Thanksgiving at SMP 1100 Thanksgiving lunch will be served at the SMP Recreation Centers. Open to all Active Duty (no guests please) this is a free event that will include turkey, mashed potatoes, pie and other transitional Thanksgiving favorites. 12/01 December Nights Come enjoy San Diego s premier holiday festival that includes festive fun food and attractions throughout Balboa Park, including complimentary admission to museums. Registration cost is $5 and includes transportation. Please be sure to bring money for any souvenirs or food that you would like to purchase on-site. Departure is at 1400 from Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253 Registration open November 14th. 12/13 Dana West Yacht Club This FREE event is geared toward Active Duty who will not be going home for the Holidays. 1630 departure from Semper Fit HQ, Bldg. 1253, alternative departure locations may be arranged. Participants must ride with SMP to the event. Business Casual attire is required. Open to single service personnel only, command authorization form is required prior to sign-up. Registration open November 28th. 12/17 Santa Margarita Hike Of all the rivers in Southern California, only the Santa Margarita River remains undiverted, unchanneled and undammed. This trail will lead you along the river s banks, through lush growths of wild grape vines and wildflowers, under the spreading boughs of live oaks and along sandy shores. $5.00 per person includes transportation, hike, hydration and snacks. Newsletter November 2017 Advanced registration is required for all SMP trips, events & volunteer opportunities. Program events are open only to single Marine and Sailors stationed on Camp Pendleton. Participants who volunteer must register in advance with SMP HQ in order to receive a letter of appreciation. Volunteers must provide their own transportation except for PE fitness Challenge. A signed command permission slip is required for all SMP activities. All activities depart from Semper Fit Headquarters Bldg. 1253. Unless otherwise stated and require that participants utilize the provided transportation. Open to all Active Duty (no guests please) this is a free event that will include turkey, mashed potatoes, pie and other transitional Thanksgiving favorites. 12/01 December Nights Come enjoy San Diego s premier holiday festival that includes festive fun food and attractions throughout Balboa Park, including complimentary admission to museums. Registration open November 28 th. 12/17 Santa Margarita Hike Of all the rivers in Southern California, only the Santa Margarita River remains undiverted, unchanneled and undammed. This trail will lead you along the river s banks, through lush growths of wild grape vines and wildflowers, under the spreading boughs of live oaks and along sandy shores. $5.00 per person includes transportation, hike, hydration and snacks. Charlies are the requested uniform for these events. Max of 6-10 volunteers needed for each opportunity. Participants will help clean & groom horses, clean stalls, & help with general maintenance at the stables. Uniform of the day is civilian attire. Closed toed shoes are required. A maximum of 10 participants are needed for this opportunity. Participants must sign up prior to the event.
