2018 VICTORIA UNIVERSITY SPORT SCHOLARSHIPS The Victoria University Sport Scholarships and Elite Athlete Support Program is in place to assist outstanding VU athletes balance their studies with the demands of elite level sport and to assist emerging student athletes in their aim to perform at the elite sporting level. Sport Scholarships aim to assist student athletes with financial and in kind support with respect to competition and training fees, health and fitness, international travel and University representation. 2018 applications for select sport scholarships (listed below) are open. Applications close 5pm Friday 22 June 2018. Sport Scholarships are offered under the Elite Student Athlete program and through partnership with the Victoria University Advancement Office. SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES In 2018, the Victoria University Sport Scholarships include three categories: ELITE HIGH PERFORMANCE The University s peak sports scholarship awarded to one outstanding male and female student athlete. Available to one (1) male and one (1) female student. Benefits: Up to $2000, in cash support Victoria University Aquatic and Fitness Centre annual membership (ScholarFit). Unisport Nationals package cost waived (accommodation and travel costs not included) Elite Athlete recognition enabling recipient to be considered for academic flexibility where training and competition (especially due to international travel) impacts on course attendance, enrolment status and /or assessment tasks. Access to VU Health Services (Massage and Osetopathy Clinics) *International travel grant to offset costs for recognised major international sporting events. EMERGING ELITE These Scholarships recognise emerging student athletes who have demonstrated significant potential to reach elite levels. Available for two (2) male and two (2) female students. Benefits Up to $750, in cash support Victoria University Aquatic and Fitness Centre annual membership (ScholarFit). Unisport Nationals entry fee cost waived (accommodation and travel costs not included) Elite Athlete recognition Access to VU Health Services (Massage and Osetopathy Clinics) *International travel grant to offset costs for recognised major international sporting events.

ASPIRING ELITE (EQUITY BASED) These scholarships are for students meeting sport performance criteria prescribed for Emerging Elite and also recognises that people have different needs with some equity groups experiencing disadvantages that impact on their educational and sport development. These Scholarships are awarded to students who come from one or more of defined equity or personal disadvantage groups and who have the potential to reach the elite level in their sport. Scholarships provided to males and females, targeting new students with at least 70% drawn from the Western Suburbs of Melbourne. Available to six (6) students (minimum two (2) female). Equity groups may include: Indigenous Australian decent, non- English speaking background, challenging family circumstances, financially disadvantaged, regional or remote origin, disability or medical condition. Benefits Up to $400, in cash support Victoria University Aquatic and Fitness Centre annual membership (ScholarFit). Unisport Nationals entry fee cost waived (accommodation and travel costs not included) Elite Athlete recognition Access to VU Health Services (Osetopathy and Massage Clinics) *International travel grant to offset costs for recognised major international sporting events. *International Travel Grants Eligible students athletes may apply for a grant to offset travel costs at major international events at any time throughout the year. Major international events are limited to Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World Student Games and World Championships. Applications for these are open all year round, however grants are subject to the availability of funds. WHO CAN APPLY The Scholarships are open to all current (enrolled) Victoria University students. HOW AND WHEN ARE NOMINATIONS ASSESSED? The Scholarships Selection Panel is made up of members of the University and Alumni community, including Victoria University Sport Awards Committee members with staff representatives from Colleges and corporate areas. The scholarships selection panel will consider applications based on the criteria outlined for each category. The application will be assessed late June to Mid July 2018. All decisions made by the scholarships selection panel are final. Submitting this nomination does not automatically mean that the nominee will be selected for a scholarship. HOW ARE RECIPIENTS ADVISED OF THEIR SCHOLARSHIP? Recipients will be advised in writing of the offer of a scholarship. SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS Applications can be submitted by email to Victoria University Sport: EliteAthletes@vu.edu.au ELIGIBILITY To be eligible students should be: Participants in an Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), state or territory Institute or academy of sport program or relevant national association program. Consistent representative at National or International Sports Competitions. A currently enrolled student, or commenced and taken intermission for the purposes of international representation. Involved in a non-professional sport as recognised by Victoria University Sport. CONDITIONS In general scholarship recipients are required to: Maintain a successful academic record. Maintain their elite athlete status in terms of training, competition and recognition by sporting bodies. Represent VU at Nationals (Inter-University championships), if applicable. Participate and or assist VU in their respective sport/discipline, if applicable. Promote and support Victoria University. ELITE ATHLETE FRIENDLY UNIVERSITY Victoria University is a member of the Elite Athlete Friendly University (EAFU) Network endorsed by the Australian Sports Commission whose aim is to assist designated elite students athletes to effectively manage their sporting and academic commitments. Eligible student athletes must be identified by one of the following organisations: Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) State Institutes or Academies of Sport (VIS) AFL Players Association Australian Cricketers Association Rugby Union Players Association Rugby League Professionals Association Australian Professional Footballers Association Australian Basketballers Association National squad member from Australian Sports Commission funded sports. Senior/head coaches from state and territory institutes/academies of sport, national teams from Australian Sports Commission funded sports or participating professional sports. If an athlete falls outside of these organisations, they may submit an application for consideration to the University.

Available for two (2) males and two (2) females. Selection Criteria: National aged squad member or equivalent (AIS). State squad aged or open member or equivalent (VIS). Top 10 national ranking age or open competition for individual sports in year of application. Finalist at age or open competition. ASPIRING ELITE (EQUITY BASED) These Scholarships are awarded to students who come from one or more defined equity or personal disadvantage groups and who have the potential to reach the elite level in their sport as per emerging elite category. Scholarships are provided to males and females, targeting new students with at least 70% drawn from the Western Suburbs of Melbourne.
