ABSN Fall 2018 Applicatin 2 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ABSN APPLICANTS 1. Prgram lcatin: The ABSN ptin is currently ffered n the WCU Biltmre Park-Asheville site at 28 Schenck Parkway, Suite 309, Asheville, NC. Clinical experiences are in Buncmbe and surrunding cunties in an apprximate radius f 100 miles. Students in the nursing prgram must have access t reliable persnal transprtatin. 2. Eligibility requirements fr applying t the ABSN ptin include: Graduate f an apprved, accredited cllege r university with a bachelr s degree in a different discipline. GPA f 3.0 r higher. Admissin t WCU as a degree-seeking student with pst-baccalaureate status Students must apply t WCU by cmpleting the nline applicatin frm available n the Office f Admissins webpage and having fficial transcripts frm all institutins attended sent t the WCU Office f Admissins. ABSN Fall 2018 Applicatin 3 3. Criteria fr Admissins Decisins Admissin t the Nursing Majr, including the ABSN ptin, is highly cmpetitive. The ABSN ptin is designed fr highly mtivated, high-achieving, secnd degree students wh can meet the demands f an academic prgram in a cntiguus scheduling frmat. Pririty will be given t the best qualified students t fill the limited number f seats in each class. Students will be selected fr admissin based n a calculated admissin scre which is used t rank applicants. GPA Calculatins: 50% Pending final University apprval, tw GPA scres will be calculated, weighted 25% each: The first GPA scre will be based n the last 60 hurs f academic credit (undergraduate and/r graduate). A minimum f 3.0 is required fr the last 60 hurs GPA. The secnd GPA will be based n the three cmpleted science prerequisites required at the time f applicatin. If mre than three science prerequisites are cmpleted by the applicatin deadline, the three highest scres will be used t determine the science GPA. If apprval is nt awarded during the applicatin review prcess, the standing cumulative GPA requirement will be utilized and weighted at 50%. A cumulative GPA is calculated based n the entire undergraduate recrd. Graduate curse wrk is nt cnsidered as part f the cumulative GPA. TEAS Admissins Assessment Exam Scres: 25% The cmpsite scre fr exams will be used fr calculating this cmpnent f the admissin scre. Résumé/Cver Letter Scre: 10% Members f the ABSN Admissins cmmittee will assess students résumé and cver letter fr evidence f academic, wrk, and service experiences that will enhance the ptential fr success in the ABSN Prgram and cntributin t the prfessin. Assessment factrs that are evaluated frm the résumé /cver letter include, but are nt limited t the fllwing: Statement f purpse included in cver letter Undergraduate and graduate degrees earned and clleges attended Wrk experiences during and after cllege Service activities during and after cllege Understanding f the rle f a prfessinal registered nurse in a hspital setting Interview: 15% Applicants may be invited fr an interview based n the rankings frm GPA, TEAS scre, résumé and cver letter. Students selected fr an interview will meet with members f the ABSN Admissin Cmmittee. The interview is designed t allw cmmittee members t assess the applicant s cmmunicatin skills, maturity, mtivatin, preparedness fr rigr f the academic prgram and interest in helping the nursing prfessin imprve quality f health care fr all peple.
ABSN Fall 2018 Applicatin 4 4. The Admissin Prcess Cmpleted applicatins received by the deadline will be awarded a preliminary scre based n the applicant s GPA, TEAS scre, résumé and cver letter. Students will be ntified by apprximately late-march whether they have r have nt been selected fr an interview. Interviews will be cnducted during the first week in April. Interviewed applicants will be ntified f their admissin decisin status by apprximately April 27 th. Waiting list: If any f the students selected fr Fall 2018 admissin decline their place in the class, the admissins cmmittee may select frm the tp f the waiting list t fill any seats that have becme available. If an applicant is placed n the waiting list but des nt acquire a seat in the Fall 2018 class they must submit a new applicatin t be cnsidered fr the next class. Accepted students wh fail t cmplete prerequisites r any additinal admissin requirements prir t the first day f ABSN classes will NOT be allwed t enter the ABSN Prgram and will lse their place in the class. Students accepted int the ABSN Prgram will receive further infrmatin abut additinal requirements fr admissin upn acceptance t the prgram, such as an initial criminal backgrund check, urine drug screen, CPR certificatin and health /immunizatin dcumentatin.
