Chemical Security Engagement Program Grants Nadia Harb, Project Manager, CRDF Global

Overview This workshop will demonstrate a variety of best practices and technical solutions for improving chemical security at your institution. Collaboration does not end with this workshop. CSP can provide financial or material support to help you implement chemical security solutions at your institution. This presentation will: 1. Describe the various grants CSP offers 2. Explain how to apply for CSP grants 3. Describe and give examples of successful CSP grants

CRDF Global CRDF Global is a nonprofit organization that promotes international scientific and technical collaboration. CRDF Global is an implementer of the U.S. Department of State Chemical Security Engagement Program (CSP). CSP, not CRDF Global, will determine which grant proposals to fund, but CRDF Global will be the point of contact for implementing these grants.

CSP Grant Opportunities CSP grant opportunities include: 1. Chemical Security Improvement Grants (CSIG) 2. Chemical Safety and Security Training (CSST) Grants 3. International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Safety Training Program (STP) 4. CSP Travel Grants

Chemical Security Improvement Grants (CSIGs)

Chemical Security Improvement Grants (CSIGs) CSIGs are grants to improve the physical and procedural security of chemical laboratories and facilities. Competition Opens: First round: December 1, 2012 Application Deadline: First round: March 1, 2013 How to Apply: By email to csig@crdfglobal.org Award Amounts: $2,000 to $30,000 each Award Duration: Up to one year Announcement & Application: www.csp-state.net

CSIG Proposal Topics Proposals may cover any area of chemical security. Examples of acceptable CSIG proposal topics include: Updating procedures for secure chemicals management Establishing a secure chain of custody for chemicals at lab or facility Upgrading physical security at chemical warehouses/storage facilities and labs Conducting chemical security trainings Reducing, removing or replacing dual-use chemicals

Successful CSIG Applications Include Title (concise & descriptive) Applicant and host organization information Previous CSP funding & project funding from non-csp sources Project description Contribution to chemical security Expected outcome and sustainability Schedule CVs for individuals compensated under project Budget

CSIG Evaluation Criteria CSIG proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Chemical security relevance and impact Clarity, accuracy and detail of project proposal Sustainability of proposed chemical security improvements, and/or local support for the project demonstrated through in-kind contribution and/or cost share.

Chemical Safety and Security Training (CSST) Grants

CSIG Grant Requirements An online library of resources and reference documents maybe viewed at the following location: http://www.crdfglobal.org/grants-and-grantees/termsconditions. The applicant will be required to submit financial documentation and reports, as well as narrative reports documenting project progress.

Chemical Security and Safety Training (CSST) Grants CSST grants are available for alumni of CSP chemical security and safety trainings to lead their own trainings. Grants may fund: Trainer labor costs Training material and supply costs Participant travel expenses Training venue costs (if applicable) CSP encourages trainers to use the chemical security and safety training modules developed by Sandia National Laboratories, available at: www.csp-state.net

Examples of Chemical Security and Safety Trainings Yemeni Universities Chemical Security and Safety Training, Aden, Yemen July 2012 Indonesian Chemical Society Chemical Safety and Security Officer Training November 2012 Sana a Chemical Safety and Security Training for Academia, Industry & Regulators January 2013

Successful Proposals Include Title (concise & descriptive) Applicant and host organization information Description of training and proposed dates Contribution to chemical security Sustainability measures Schedule Training agenda and material CVs of applicant, trainers & staff Budget
