Dear Broughton Band Supporter, NEEDHAM B. BROUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS, INC. 723 St. Mary s Street Raleigh, NC 27605 July 21, 2017 The Needham B. Broughton Boosters, Inc. supports the proud legacy of the Broughton. Director of bands, Margie Harrison, strives to educate the students in this tradition of excellence. This past spring the band traveled to New York City to participate in a WorldStrides Music Festival. Our combined Wind Ensemble/Concert Band performed as well as our Chamber Orchestra. Both groups won high honors at the festival! We are about to begin our annual Band Camp, preparing for our 2017-18 marching season. This year s field show will have a James Bond 007 theme! Membership in a high school band program requires dedication, time, and money. The students in the downtown Raleigh area feeding into Broughton High School come from varied backgrounds. Ms. Harrison has done an excellent job keeping band fees low so that all students can participate. And, for another year we are NOT raising our fees. To help offset the cost of student fees, students in band take part in various fund raisers that earn money directly towards their band fees and trips, in addition to the general band fund. However, the general band needs far exceed the students ability to generate capital. Each year, instruments need repair and occasional replacement, music needs to be purchased, uniforms need repair and eventual replacement, and competitions can be costly. Wake County Public Schools supports the education of band students, but only provides a small amount of funding. The good news is that supporters like you help the Broughton Band all the time. This year we are replacing several large instrument cases and leasing several instruments, which we loan to students for the year. We are looking for your support to raise funds for these purchases, master classes with area musicians, new music, and scholarship opportunities so that the band can continue to be a strong program at Broughton. As you can see, excellent things are happening in the Broughton. The band is growing and students are excited about the upcoming year. There are several ways that your organization can support the Broughton Band. Contributions are tax deductible and provide valuable recognition to your company. Sponsorship can occur at various levels from $100 and up and can even specifically include the purchase of instruments and other equipment. We encourage you to read the attached information, including sponsorship details and forms. If you have any questions about specific sponsorship opportunities, please contact Mary Scudella at 919-977-1446. On behalf of Margie Harrison and the students and families of the Broughton Band, we sincerely Thank You for your support and wish you a happy and prosperous 2016. Sincerely, Mary & John Scudella Broughton Band Booster Presidents

Our Tradition and Legacy Needham B. Broughton is:! One of the oldest high schools in Wake County, and regarded as the Flagship school in Raleigh, North Carolina.! The oldest high school band in the Wake County Public School System, starting in 1929 when the school opened its doors.! A mainstay in every Raleigh Christmas Parade since 1946.! A full scale band program with over 100 members, consisting of a traditional Marching Band, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Color Guard, and Winter Guard.! An award winning Winter Guard program that has been around for over 20 years.! An academically talented group of students with representation in the multiple Honor Societies.! An athletically talented group of students with representation on Broughton sports teams.! Competing in several competitions every year, consistently earning high scores and praise.! Talented musicians who consistently place in District, Regional, and State level events.! Traveling to participate in events across the nation, enriching the band experience of its members. Recent trips include the New York City WorldStrides Music Festival in 2017, Universal Studios, Florida in 2016, Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl in 2014, Walt Disney World in 2014, the National Memorial Day Parade in 2013, and the Tournament of Roses Parade in 2012. The Motto of the Broughton Band is: EXCELLENCE IS OUR STANDARD NOT OUR GOAL

Fundraising and Sponsorship Director Margie Harrison Presidents Mary & John Scudella, 1st Vice President Sherry Paradise, 2nd Vice President - Simon Roe, The Needham B. Broughton is supported by The Broughton Band Boosters. This group of dedicated parents assists the band in raising funds necessary to run an excellent high school band program. Each year the Band Boosters conduct fund raising opportunities for the students to help offset the costs of travel and events. In addition, each student pays a fair share fee to address the general costs of a high school band program. HOWEVER, band fees and fundraising fall dramatically short of meeting the needs of a prestigious band program such as that of Needham B. Broughton. THAT IS WHY WE NEED YOU! Corporate Sponsors can assist the Broughton by funding operating costs that are not covered by school districts and are too costly to be added to students fees. If students were charged the full cost of what it takes to run an excellent band program, participation would be limited to only those who could afford to pay. We want EVERY student with a love for instrumental music to participate! YOUR Corporate Sponsorship can fund: Instrument Replacement and Repair Music Compositions Competition Expenses Band Uniforms And SO much more! Secretary Cathy West, Treasurer Susie Barnes
