Tour Information The Great Wall at Badaling Located at Guangou of Yanqing county northwest of Beijing, the Great Wall at Badaling is the most brilliant representative section of the Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty. Built in the 18 th year of Hongzhi (1505), this section is marked by formidable precipices and dense plants, forming a majestic view for numerous visitors from all over the world. In 1961, the Chinese government listed it as Cultural Relics of National Importance under the Protection of the State and in 1987 it was incorporated into UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list. The Forbidden City Located in the center of Beijing, the former imperial palace, also known as the Purple Forbidden City, was the royal palace for the Ming and Qing dynasties. Construction work began in 1406, the fourth year of the Ming emperor Yongle s reign. Covering an area of 720,000 square meters with more than 890 palace buildings containing over 9900 rooms in various sizes, it is the biggest and most complete surviving building complex. Called the Sea of Palaces, this grand and magnificent imperial palace embodies the essence of ancient Chinese architecture. In 1961 it was listed as state-level historical site and in 1987 it was added to UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage list. 14
