Volume 50, Issue 12 March 2016 Monthly Publication of Woodbridge Elks Lodge 2355 Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks LODGE OFFICERS 2015-2016 EXALTED RULER Michael Haman EXALTED RULER S MESSAGE Hello Elk family and here is March, the month of maybes (weather wise), Congratulations to the Officers' Elect, Appointees and Incumbents who will be leading our Lodge in the new Elk year. Once again our Lodge will have a strong leadership team that is among the best. Esteemed Leading Knight Ken Smart will accept the Jewels of Office and the Gavel of the Exalted Ruler at the Officer Installation dinner on April 9th. Along with Ken, Lodge Esquire Lillian Garland will step into the role of Esteemed Leading Knight, and Inner Guard Karen Smart will move into the Esteemed Loyal Knight position. Beth Martinez will become our Treasurer, Muriel Costa will be the Inner Guard and Mary Louise Mawn, PER will be the 5-year Trustee. Ken Catterton, Sherri Stramel, Susan McDaniel and Bob Kane will retain their positions as Lodge Secretary, Esteemed Lecturing Knight, Tiler and Lodge Chaplain respectively, and the Trustees will all move down by 1 year. Though I am stepping down to spend more time with my family, finish my career and spend time in my train room, I'm actually just stepping aside for a while. I will still serve in the Elkdom as a Past Exalted Ruler (PER), reprise my role as your Lodge Esquire (the Antlers-don't leave the Altar without 'em!), offer to serve on a committee or two, and of course volunteer in my Lodge as time allows. I'm even thinking of writing a column in our newsletter maybe every quarter or so on general thoughts on the Lodge, but I'm still undecided about this. LEADING KNIGHT Ken Smart LOYAL KNIGHT Domingo Gonzales LECTURING KNIGHT - Sherri Stramel ESQUIRE Lilian Garland CHAPLAIN Robert Kane SECRETARY - Ken Catterton TREASURER John Elliott INNER GUARD Karen Smart TILER Susan McDaniel 5 YEAR TRUSTEE Michael Singleton 4 YEAR TRUSTEE - 3 YEAR TRUSTEE As our Exalted Ruler Elect begins to form his committees for the upcoming year, I encourage and recommend that you consider serving on one (or more) and make your talents and ideas known for the betterment of your Lodge and the greater Continued... Elkdom. Participating in community activities and/or volunteering in your Lodge are not as difficult or inconvenient as you might think. In fact, it's a satisfying and fulfilling experience, knowing you've made a difference for someone in our community or in your Lodge. There are so many activities and committees to participate in...from helping our brave veterans, assisting in providing suppers for our senior citizens or the good people at the ARC, becoming involved with our Hoop Shoot program, performing building repairs, to washing dishes and everything in between. Without a doubt, there's always something going on in your Lodge-be a part of it, not apart from it! I'll close by congratulating PDDGER Roger Highfield on being our Elk of the Month for March. Roger organizes and participates in many activities in our Lodge, acts as a mentor of sorts for me during my tenure as your Exalted Ruler, and is a good friend. Congratulations Roger! Stay warm and safe everybody, and see you at the Lodge! Fraternally, Michael Haman Exalted Ruler A Reminder From the Lodge Secretary Lodge Dues notices for the 2016-2017 Elk Year were mailed out in late January and are due by March 31st 2016.
