SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ANY HIGH SCHOOL Ed Long, Jr. Family Career and Technical Education Scholarship $1,000 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to attend Virginia Tech or Blue Ridge Community College for the Virginia Tech transfer program. Applicants must complete a 2-year sequence of a vocational technical program, preferably in one of the following fields: agriculture, business, family and consumer sciences, marketing, technology education, or trade and industrial education. The Bridgewater Retirement Community Nursing Scholarship $1,000 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who have an interest in the nursing field. One $1000 scholarship will be awarded. Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority is given to applicants who are children of Bridgewater Retirement Community s employees and have a serious desire to work in the health care profession. The Hill Scholarship for Career Readiness $500 each The Hill Scholarship for Career Readiness is a $500 scholarship that will be awarded to two students from Dayton Learning Center. This is for seniors who plan to pursue a vocational, technical, or trade career. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and a strong interest in acquiring the additional skills and training needed to be successful in their chosen career field. Students will be recommended based on this criteria, and will be encouraged to write a brief statement explaining how the scholarship would be used to help you achieve success in your chosen career field. (Examples for use of this scholarship may include the following: tuition, books or training materials, purchase of required equipment or tools, professional uniforms, and the cost of certification or licensing manuals) The Frazier Quarry Scholarship $1,500 each Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who have been a member of the FFA or 4-H club for at least 2 years. Four $1,500 scholarships to be awarded (2 females and 2 males). Applicants must have a GPA of at least 3.0. Priority given to applicants who plan a career in the agricultural field. Gary & Martha Dovel Memorial Music Scholarship $500 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who plan to pursue further education in music. Applicant must have actively participated in a school music program, including band, chorus, or both, for at least four years and participated in a musical production and/or marching band. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, and extracurricular/ athletic participation. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a music teacher and a short essay explaining why they should be considered for this scholarship. The Hill Scholarship for Vocational Excellence $1,250 each Four $1,250 scholarships to be awarded (one per high school, may be divided) to seniors who plan to pursue a vocational, technical or trade career. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have the desire to acquire the skills necessary to excel in their chosen occupation. In addition to the required letter of recommendation from a teacher/school administrator please submit a brief statement (1-page maximum) explaining how the

scholarship would be used to assist you in achieving your goals. (Examples for the use of this scholarship may include the following: tuition, books or training manuals, purchase of required tools or equipment, professional uniforms, and cost of certification or licensing exams) The Hill Family Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers $1,500 each (may be divided) Open to Rockingham County High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in education OR graduates of a Rockingham County high school who are currently student-teaching in a Rockingham County School. Two $1,500 scholarships to be awarded (may be divided). Applicant must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement, citizenship, and extracurricular participation. Essay required (maximum 3 pages) describing why the applicant desires to pursue a secondary degree and career in teaching. Kate Beagle Memorial Scholarship $1,000 each Open to Rockingham County High School seniors interested in pursuing a career in public service/safety (includes teaching, nursing, etc.). Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, received an A in driver s education and behind the wheel training, and have a driving record with no infractions. Applicant must submit a short essay on how they will be an advocate against distracted driving and make a difference in their community. Luther Arliss & Helan W. Kirkpatrick Scholarship $1,000 each Open to Rockingham County High School seniors. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicant must demonstrate success through hard work and/or overcoming a hardship, financial need, scholarship, and contribution to the school and/or larger community. Matthew Privott Memorial Athletic Scholarship $1,000 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who are on a football and/or wrestling team, with preference given to Turner Ashby High students. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a member of the direct coaching staff. Applicant must also submit an essay explaining their commitment and interest in the football/wrestling team s overall effort, and how they have demonstrated hard work and having heart in that effort for the team. Massanutten Resort Scholarship $1,000 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who will be attending a four-year institution of higher education. Applicant must submit an additional 500-word essay on The importance of the hospitality and tourism industry today and 10 years from now; and if you could change one thing to make the industry better, what would it be?" Massanutten Resort Scholarship $500 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who will be attending a two-year institution or trade school. Applicant must submit an additional 500-word essay on The importance of the hospitality and tourism industry today and 10 years from now; and if you could change one thing to make the industry better, what would it be?"

Salzberg Family Scholarship $1,000 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who have completed a two-year sequence at Massanutten Technical Center and are interested in pursuing further education. Sue Yancey Family Scholarship $1,000 (may be divided) Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who planning to pursue a career in education. Preference is given to East Rockingham and Spotswood High School students. Essay required (maximum 2 pages) articulating why the applicant desires to become a teacher. First priority based on merit and desire to become a teacher; second, based on financial need. Terra McPike Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to Rockingham County High School seniors who are pursuing a career in education. Priority given to announced Foreign Language Education majors.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR BROADWAY HIGH SCHOOL Brian Bucky Anderson Memorial HERO Scholarship (Football) $3,000 (may be divided) Open to Broadway High School seniors only. Applicant must letter in football their senior year, as a player, manager, or trainer, and have had challenges to overcome. Applicant must also have average academic standing with a 2.5 GPA or higher. Essay required on the topic of Hero(s) as well as two recommendation letters, one from a teacher/coach and one from any person of the applicant s choice. Preference will be given to any student members of a volunteer fire/rescue agency. First priority will be given to students entering the firefighting field; second, a student entering the medical field. Ellen Bowman Rhodes Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship $1,000 each Open to Broadway High School seniors who have lettered in at least one varsity sport. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrate athletic participation and citizenship/volunteerism. Applicant must also submit two recommendation letters from school officials, one from an academic teacher and one from the applicant s choice. Jason Matthew Morris Memorial Scholarship $2,000 each Open to Broadway High School seniors who have aspirations of becoming a teacher. Two $2,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicant must demonstrate citizenship/volunteerism, extracurricular/athletic participation, and overall accomplishments. Priority is given to applicants who have lettered in at least one sport. Preference given to students with average academic standing (i.e., 2.5-3.0 GPA) and high aspirations of being successful. Janet S. Hadley Scholarship $1,000 Open to Broadway High School seniors based on financial need. Preference given to students who intend to pursue a career in education. Applicants must submit a 1-2 page essay on Why I Deserve this Scholarship Award. Jessie C. Smith Memorial Scholarship $500

Open to Broadway High School seniors who are interested in pursuing education as a career goal. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular participation, and citizenship/volunteerism. Priority given to students identified with special needs. Louis Nagy, Jr. Student Athlete Scholarship $500 Open to Broadway High School seniors who have lettered in two sports during their senior year. Applicants must have a GPA 3.5 or higher and demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, both on the field and in the classroom. Applicant must submit two recommendation letters from school officials, one from a coach and one from a teacher. Matthew Allen Hottinger Memorial Athletic Scholarship $500 Open to Broadway High School seniors who have lettered in at least one sport. Priority given to players on the baseball team. Applicants must demonstrate athletic participation and achievement, academic achievement, financial need, citizenship, and extracurricular participation. Applicant must submit one letter of recommendation from a high school official. Nichole Conley Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to Broadway High School seniors in good academic standing. Preference given to students who have had challenges to overcome. High academic achievement is not a priority. Tanner Brooks Morris Memorial Teamwork Scholarship $500 Open to Broadway High School seniors on the football team. Applicant must exemplify teamwork, both on and off the field, and participate in school and community activities. Preference given to linemen. Must submit two recommendation letters, one from a football coach and one from a school or community organization leader. Viola Ritchie Sager Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to Broadway High School seniors only. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, citizenship, and financial need. Priority given to applicants with the following intended majors in the order they are listed: business education, business or economics, computer technology, or education. Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation from school officials and their high school transcript.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EAST ROCKINGHAM HIGH SCHOOL Don Glick Memorial Scholarship $600 each Open to East Rockingham High School senior athletes. Two $600 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Priority given to applicants planning on pursuing a career in teaching. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and submit a short essay (150 words or less) sharing how this quote could be applied to the applicant s life: One thing I know. The only ones among you who will be really happy are those who will have sought and found how to serve. East Rockingham High School Scholarship $500 Open to East Rockingham High School seniors only. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, community service/volunteerism, and extracurricular participation. Two letters of recommendation from school officials are required. Ethan Zander Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Open to East Rockingham High School seniors only. Applicants must have lettered in at least one sport and participated in a team sport during their senior year, and/or have participated in the fine arts program (band, choir, etc.). Applicant must demonstrate character and citizenship/volunteerism. Applicant must submit an essay (maximum 500 words) showing their initiative and leadership in making a difference in another person s life, and one letter of recommendation from an adult community member who can attest to the student s character. Firefighter Roy Dale Smith, III Memorial Scholarship $500 each Open to Spotswood or East Rockingham High School seniors who plan on pursuing a career in community service or volunteer-related field (i.e. fire and rescue, non-profit, Peace Corp, etc.). Two $500 scholarships to be awarded. Applicant must demonstrate having heart and passion for helping others as well as good citizenship at school and in the community. Jean Madren Memorial Scholarship Fund $500 each Open to Spotswood and East Rockingham High School seniors planning to pursue a caree in teaching. Two $500 scholarships to be awarded (one per school). Priority given to applicants interested in becoming a school counselor or science teacher. Applicant must submit a short essay (150 words or less) sharing why they desire to persue a career in teaching and a letter of recommendation from an educator at the applicant s school. Mary Elizabeth Kite Memorial Scholarship $1,900 Open to East Rockingham High School seniors who have had an Elkton mailing address continuously for a period of at least four (4) years. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, good character, initiative, and financial need. Merck Senior Science Scholarship $1,000 each Open to East Rockingham and Spotswood High School seniors only. Two $1,000 scholarships to be awarded (one per school). Applicants must demonstrate academic

achievement, extracurricular participation, and citizenship/volunteerism. Priority will be given to applicants planning a career in the field of science. Two letters of recommendation from school officials are required. MillerCoors Scholarship for Engineering/Environmental Science $2,500 each Open to Spotswood or East Rockingham High School seniors planning to pursue a 4-year degree in engineering or environmental science. Two $2,500 scholarships to be awarded (one per high school). Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and demonstrate leadership potential and participating in student and/or civic organizations. Roy Dale Smith, III Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to Spotswood or East Rockingham High School seniors who plan on pursuing a career in community service or volunteer-related field (i.e. fire and rescue, non-profit, Peace Corp, etc.). Applicant must submit a 1-2 page essay on having heart and passion for helping others, and demonstrate good citizenship at school and in the community. Wesley Frazier Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to one East Rockingham High School senior who has been actively involved in either athletics, or extracurricular programs during their time in high school. Priority is given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in education. A short essay (250-300 words) describing how they have made an effort to help someone in need, or help someone overcome an obstacle is required.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO SPOTSWOOD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Ben Graessle Memorial Scholarship Fund $500 Open to Spotswood High School seniors pursuing further education/training in vocational education. Applicant must demonstrate extracurricular involvement, financial need, community service/citizenship, and have a GPA higher than 2.8. Bill Blose Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Open to Spotswood High School senior student athletes. Applicants must demonstrate athletic achievement, academic achievement, financial need, initiative, and character. Required essay entitled, How Sports Have Prepared Me for Life. Applicant must submit recommendation letters from school officials. Brielle Nelson Memorial Scholarship for Cheerleaders $1,000 Open to Spotswood High School seniors who have participated in Varsity Cheerleading. Applicants must submit a short essay entitled, What Cheerleading Meant to Me. Cub Run Academic Scholarship $500 each Two scholarships in the amount of $500 will be awarded to one female and one male from Spotswood High School who attended Cub Run Elementary School. Applicants must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and community involvement. Applicant must have a GPA of at least 3.0 and submit a short essay (250-300 words) describing how you have demonstrated leadership ability in your school, work or community. Dennis Lee Carbaugh Athletic Scholarship $500 Open to Spotswood High School seniors only. Applicants must demonstrate athletic participation and achievement, academic achievement, financial need, and extracurricular participation. Preference given to players on the basketball and/or baseball team. Duane E. Carbaugh Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers $500 Open to Spotswood High School seniors intending to pursue a career in teaching. Applicant must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, and extracurricular participation. Sacra Technology Scholarship $500 Open to Spotswood High School seniors who plan to pursue studies in technology. Applicant must demonstrate participation in extracurricular activities, academic achievement, leadership, and community involvement. Financial need will be a minor consideration. Applicant must submit two letters of recommendation.

SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE TO TURNER ASHBY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS Bridgewater Rotary Club Scholarship $750 Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors who plan to attend 2-year or 4-year college/university. Preference will be given to any student members of a volunteer fire/rescue agency. Applicant must demonstrate extracurricular participation, citizenship/volunteerism, and financial need. Preference may be given to students with average academic standing (2.0-3.0 GPA) and aspirations of becoming successful. Applicant must submit a letter of recommendation from a school official. James Winston Mays Memorial Scholarship $1,000 One scholarship in the amount of $1000 will be awarded annually to one Turner Ashby High School Senior. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, initiative, strong leadership skills, and good character. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a career in Computer Science or Mathematics. Jordan Christine Long Memorial Scholarship $500 Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, financial need, initiative, strong leadership skills, good character, and the desire to help others both in school and in the community. It is preferred that applicant be registered as an organ donor. Applicants must submit an essay (maximum 500 words) on "How they will advocate against, driving under the influence/and Distracted driving". Applicants must also submit an additional letter of recommendation from a community member.

Applicants must demonstrate hard work and have overcome hardship to be successful. Preference given to applicants who plan to pursue a career in nursing. Virginia & Joe Kagey Memorial Scholarship $2000 each Open to Turner Ashby High School seniors. Two $2,000 scholarships to be awarded (one to a female and one to a male). Applicants must demonstrate above average scholarship, athletic participation, character, leadership, and school and community participation. Financial need will be a secondary consideration.
