Activity Descriptions: Bike Tour of Campus 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Bike Barn Get a student s perspective of campus with this bike tour that will take parents through the heart of campus, past the Aggie Stadium as well as the Unitrans Headquarters, Veterinary School and other campus highlights. There is no storage available for personal belongings. Pricing: $10 for the rental of a bike from the ASUCD Bike Barn. You may bring your own bike and participate for free. Biological Sciences Tour - 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Life Sciences Building Join Ernesto Sandoval, Director Botanical Conservatory for a tour of the science laboratory building bio labs, greenhouse and botanical conservatory. Campus Presentation: Exploring Mars with Curiosity Dawn Sumner 10:00 a.m. The rover Curiosity landed on Mars a little more than 3 years ago. Since then, the Mars Science Laboratory team has been using it to characterize the rocks in Gale Crater, which have proven to consist mostly of sandstones and mudstones deposited in ancient rivers and lakes. In this presentation, Sumner will provide an overview of what it takes to do science with a rover on another planet, highlight some of our most interesting scientific results, and give a sneak preview of what Curiosity is doing as of October 24th. You'll come away with a sense of the adventure, hard work and ingenuity it takes to turn science fiction into real science. Campus Presentation: Studying Abroad in College UC Davis Study Abroad and Repaying Student Loans USE 11:30 a.m. Studying Abroad in College presented by UC Davis Study Abroad: A presentation to parents to provide information about the opportunities available for students to study abroad and the vast resources available through UC Davis Study Abroad. This presentation runs from 11:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. Repaying Student Loans, presented by USE Credit Union: The amount owed on student loans can be enormous, with monthly payments often rivaling that of a mortgage. Join us to learn about options that are available to you that can help make repaying student loans less intimidating, as well as a chance to win a $100.00 UC Davis Bookstore gift card. This presentation runs from 12:15 p.m. 1:00 p.m. These are two separate presentations happening in the same location. You may choose to attend one or both.

2 Campus Presentation: Discover the Raptor Center UC Davis Raptor Center 1:00 p.m. The California Raptor Center (CRC), an affiliate of the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, treats and rehabilitates injured and orphaned raptors brought in by members of the public and by state and federal agencies. It is a haven for injured birds of prey. The Raptor Center, though part of the University, runs almost entirely on volunteer work. Attend this one hour presentation to learn more about birds of prey several of whom will be present during the lecture. Campus Showcase Friday, October 23, 8:30 a.m. 4:30 p.m. Day long showcase featuring seminars by renowned UC Davis faculty. Enjoy behind-the-scenes tours of campus and lectures on exciting and engaging topics like neuroscience, comedy, and stem cells. Pricing: $50 for CAAA or APFA members $60 for nonmembers Check in and Packet Pickup Location varies Pick up your official Parent and Family Weekend Nametags, lanyards, as well as your schedule and map for the weekend. Friday check in will be located at the. Saturday, from 8 a.m. 1 p.m., check in will be located at the Activities and Recreation Center (ARC) Lobby; after 1 p.m. check in will be located at the tailgate field. Engineering Fabrication Lab Tour - 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Outside Bainer Hall room 1220 The Engineering Fabrication Lab is a supervised facility that provides students with opportunities for hands-on manufacturing and fabrication in a safe environment. We also offer instructional support to students, faculty and staff of the College of Engineering as they work on projects for classes, independent study, research, and student design competition clubs. Lab Director, Mike Akahori, will guide parents through the Student Machine Shop area, whose primary purpose is to support teaching, and the Student Project Area, which is primarily used by student design competition clubs. Family Brunch Sunday, October 25, 10:00 a.m. ARC Ballroom Finish your Parent and Family Weekend experience with a relaxing Sunday Brunch. Enjoy the company of your family while chatting over a delicious breakfast.

3 Flame Working Class 10:00 a.m. Craft Center Create tiny, colorful glass sculptures at UC Davis Craft Center. Create small sculptures of your own design. Attendees will be able to produce high quality pieces in just two and a half hours. This activity has limited registration of 6 in the class. This activity is 2.5 hours long; please plan accordingly. $25 per person. Football game vs. Southern Utah 4:00 p.m. Aggie Stadium Watch the Aggies battle Southern Utah. Parking for the tailgate and the football game is available in the West Parking Structure on Hutchinson Blvd. or in Visitor Parking Lot 53. The cost to park is $9.00. Refreshments and Shields Library Tour 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Shields Library Visit the Shields Library and familiarize yourself with the services, Special Collections, and fine Art (from many of UC Davis' well-known art faculty), and meet some of the amazing staff dedicated to your student's academic success. Our amazing student employees and librarians will show off the highlights of the Library and discuss what makes the Library the epicenter of study, socializing and student employment. The Library is the largest, possibly most used building on campus for good reason. Find out why and feel free to bring your student along. Give your student a leg up and learn about Shields Library amazing offerings! Student Farm Tour 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. 1:00 p.m. Parking Lot 30 Join Director Mark Van Horn for a tour of the Student Farm. Learn how UC Davis is a leader in environmental and sustainability related teaching and research through ASI s pioneering work. Parking is available in Lot 30. Swing Dance Lesson Friday, October 23, 8:00 p.m. Join dance instructors and Aggie Parents Dan and Sharon Davis for a fun Swing Dance class. Get some great exercise and enjoy this class for beginners and experts alike. You ll have the chance to practice your new moves after the lesson with open dancing. You ll be sure to walk away having learned something new! Partners not needed! The Swing Dance class is free of charge.

4 Tailgate BBQ 2:00 p.m. Aggie Stadium Come out and show your Aggie pride as you enjoy your lunch and Aggie Camaraderie. If you want to join the Aggie tradition of greeting the team s bus as they arrive, please meet at the tent area at 1:40 p.m. The Tailgate includes special performances by student groups including Cal Aggie Marching Band-uh!, Spirit Squad, and more. Game tickets are not included. For game tickets please view the instructions for purchasing discounted game tickets. Tour at Whole Foods Market 10:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Whole Foods, Downtown Davis Learn about specialty products and ways to save for you and your Aggie student, especially for those students needing to follow specific dietary restrictions. Join us for a Whole Foods Market tour and learn how to build a grocery list for dorm living and much more. Please note that this activity is located off campus within walking distance. Please plan accordingly. There is ample free parking located behind Whole Foods market. Save room for samples! Vintage Aggies Wine Tasting Friday, October 23, 6:30 p.m. 8:30 p.m. Come enjoy delicious wines provided by UC Davis alumni winemakers. This event is for those 21 years of age or older. Pricing: $25 for APFA members $35 for nonmembers. Welcome Reception and Coffee 9:00 a.m. Start your Parent and Family Weekend off with a welcome reception. Get the chance to meet other parents as well as watch student performances. What Employers Want from Interns and New Graduates Collegial Services 1:00 p.m. Please join us for a presentation on the top five skills desired by employers and how your student can demonstrate mastery of them during the career search and interview process. Presented by Robin Reshwan, a UC Davis Alumna/CAAA member, US News Careers Writer, Certified Professional Resume Writer, Founder and President of Collegial Services. Wine 101 4:00 p.m. Football not your thing? Join us for an introductory class on the elements and nuances of wine tasting. This class is $10.
