The Community Foundation of South Alabama s Scholarship Opportunities Please see below for an alphabetical listing of the Foundation s scholarship funds, including a brief overview of the criteria and primary contact information. These scholarship funds were created by generous donors who wanted to help future generations of students in Southwest Alabama reach their full potential. For more information on criteria, application process and important dates, please contact the primary contact for the scholarship fund. Delchamps Sr. Memorial Fund This scholarship is for a University of South Alabama (USA) junior or senior in the Department of Teacher Education that demonstrates financial need. The student must be a teaching candidate, have a minimum 3.2 GPA, and provide evidence of interest/involvement in educational groups. Anita S. Edwards Scholarship Fund For an outstanding Math student at Theodore High School. Students must major in science, computer science, education, engineering, business, or medicine. Zion Church of Mobile to attend any college. Recipients are chosen based on objective and nondiscriminatory basis. Recipients should demonstrate financial need and have a GPA and test scores to enable them to do college work. Three letters of reference are also required. Daniels Memorial Scholarship For a Baldwin County High School graduating senior with outstanding moral character and academic excellence to attend any college. Bolton Scholarship Fund For a Theodore High School student with leadership skills/ citizenship and has a good GPA to attend any college. Saad Nursing Scholarship Fund Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited nursing program leading to the registered nurse degree or advanced studies in a school in Mobile or Baldwin Counties. There is a essay component and letters of recommendation required. The annual scholarship amount is $1000. Applicants should have a minimum of a 3.5 GPA and an ACT score of at least 20. Recipients must attend an Alabama college. Primary Contact: Russelle Keese, Director, 256-761-6132 Eichold MD/MPH Scholarship Fund The scholarship is for a student enrolled in Tulane University s MD/Masters of Public Health Program with a minimum of 2.5 GPA. Krousel-Wood, Dean, 504-988-7055 Elizabeth Martin-Wilma Scrivner Scholarship Fund The scholarship is for an upcoming female junior or senior in the University of South Alabama (USA) College of Education, who is a teacher candidate, has a minimum 3.2 GPA, provides evidence of interest/ involvement in educational groups, and demonstrates financial need. Award is only for tuition and fees. Fannye Utsey Memorial Scholarship Fund For a Fruitdale High School senior who has a minimum 2.5 GPA and will attend a full time 2 or 4-year college, has financial need, and merit. Gavin Gee Hunter Agricultural Scholarship For a Baldwin County graduating senior or college student pursuing a degree in agriculture or related field at Auburn. Applicant must have 3.5 GPA and at least a 20 ACT score. Primary Contact: Paul Patterson, Dean, 334-844-3254, pmp0003@auburn.edu Gus Shopoff Scholarship Fund For a graduating senior who is a member of Team Focus, plans to attend any school of higher learning, is well rounded, has exemplary grades and community involvement. Primary Contact: Mike Doriot, mobileteamfocus@gmail.com, 251-635-1515 Harry & Lula McCarn Nurses Scholarship For a student living in Mobile or Baldwin Counties and pursuing a Master s degree in Nursing Administration or other field of nursing at University of South Alabama (USA). Matthews Jr. Scholarship Fund The scholarship provides tuition assistance to juniors or seniors at the University of FL School of Forestry/Natural Resource Conservation, Milton Branch. Students must be from Escambia, Conecuh, Monroe, or North Baldwin. Scholarships are based on merit and financial need. Students must major in natural resource conservation, have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and can be either full-time or part-time. Community or volunteer service is preferred. Recipients are eligible to reapply. Applicants apply by utilizing the Foundation s online scholarship application portal. Jack Edwards Scholarship Fund (Spring Hill College) For a full-time college student at Spring Hill College majoring in political science, history, or related subject and has at least a 2.5 GPA. Primary Contact: Tonya Gollotte, 251-442-2917, tgollotte@umobile.edu Jack Edwards Scholarship Fund (University of South Alabama) The scholarship is for a full-time college student, majoring in political science, history, or related subject, who has at least a 2.5 GPA. The scholarship is an annual award and can be renewable. Financial need is a factor but not an overriding criterion. Jean Fry Scholarship For Mobile County Public High School senior who demonstrates financial need, has a good GPA, and can attend any college. Joe Wayne Wright Jr. Scholarship Fund This scholarship is for a senior at Sparta Academy in Evergreen who has a minimum of a B average and demonstrates school achievements, activities, awards, honors, and good morals. Student must be from Baldwin, Clarke, Conecuh, Choctaw, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, or Washington counties, maintain a 3.5 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. This scholarship is renewable. Primary Contact: Robbi Beauchamp, Advisor, 334-844-3648 Kinsley Elizabeth Bulger Memorial Scholarship For a Sparta Academy High School senior who is a resident within Conecuh and surrounding counties, has a B average and high moral standards. Primary Contact: Alicia Williams, teacher, msaliciaatsparta@yahoo.com, 251-578-2858, 334-804-9738 Mary & Council Powell Scholarship Fund (Alabama A&M) For an entering freshman or currently enrolled student at Alabama A&M who has a minimum ACT score of 19 and 3.0 GPA. Applicants apply by utilizing the Foundation s online scholarship application portal. Mary & Council Powell Scholarship Fund (AL State) For an entering freshman or currently enrolled student at Alabama State University who demonstrates financial need, has a minimum GPA 2.0, and is enrolled full time. Mathews Scholarship Fund For a Clarke County student who has at least a B average and will be pursuing a career in education as a teacher. A teacher in Clarke County who is beginning work on a new degree may also apply for the scholarship. The application requires an essay and two letters of reference from people not related to the applicant. Primary Contact: Marion Bumpers, Chairperson, 251-275-3293 Mobile County Education Fund For a Mobile County School student who has at least a 3.5 GPA, financial need and is not a transfer from any high school inside or outside Mobile Co. Public schools. This scholarship rotates between the Mobile County Public High Schools. The 2018 school is Theodore High School. Murphy Alumni Association, Inc./Curtis Williams Scholarship Fund For a Murphy High School senior who is planning to major in a science field, demonstrates financial need, and has been accepted to a college of their choice. Primary Contact: If you are a student at Murphy High School, please check with your senior counselor for more information on this scholarship opportunity and how to apply. Murphy High School Class of 31 Scholarship Fund For a Murphy High School graduate who has similar interests as Joe Langan (government, business, law) and can attend any college. Pat Piercy Education Trust Fund The scholarship is for sophomores, juniors, and seniors attending full time at USA, majoring in math, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, zoology, botany, or geology. Student must reside in Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe, or Washington and have a GPA of at least a 2.8. Bueche Memorial Fund For a Christ the King Student to aid with tuition. Recipient must model Christ the King s mission statement, respect others, have good grades and demonstrate financial need. Bueche Memorial Fund Service to God and Country Award The Service to God and Country Award is for a McGill-Toolen graduating senior who exemplifies patriotism, love of God and neighbor. Principal, 251-445-2906, robertl@mcgill-toolen.org Poarch Creek Community Scholarship Fund Annually, the Poarch Creek Indian Community Scholarship Fund will award a minimum of one scholarship to a male student and one to a female student. Applicants must be a resident of the State of Alabama or one of the following counties in Florida: Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa, Walton, Holmes, Washington or Gadsden. Academic merit, community involvement, and other factors such as financial need and/or workforce demand, will be taken into consideration when reviewing applications. Wilkie Scholarship Fund For a Mobile County High School senior who demonstrates financial need, maintains a good GPA, and will be attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa majoring in English. Spring Hill College Class of 51 Scholarship Fund For a student-athlete who has a minimum B average, an ACT score of 21 or above, demonstrates financial need, and possesses good character. This scholarship is renewable. Primary Contact: Melinda McCall, 251-380-2253, mmccall@shc.edu Steve and Carolyn Perry Scholarship Fund This scholarship is for an individual pursuing technical training or certification in advanced manufacturing & will support both career training and career advancement training. The applicant must demonstrate that he or she meets the skill requirements of the training or certification program. Financial need is not required but may be taken into consideration. Applicants apply by utilizing the Foundation s online scholarship application portal. Sue & Sidney Magnes Scholarship Fund Scholarship(s) are for freshman entering USA as a full-time student majoring in business. This student should be a Mobile County graduate or resident, have at least a 3.0 GPA and a minimum ACT score of 20, and demonstrates financial need. Thompson Holdings Foundation Scholarship Fund For high school seniors in Mobile or Baldwin County, AL; Madison or Rankin County, Mississippi or Moss Point, Mississippi; Hamilton, Bradley or Rhea County, Tennessee who want to pursue a technical/professional field of study that are used by Thompson Holdings/Engineering. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA and 21 ACT score minimum. Applicants should also demonstrate financial need. Applicants apply by utilizing the Foundation s online scholarship application portal.
