Marie Curie Actions Support for two categories of researchers: Early Stage Researcher: Less than 4 years of research experience* (full-time equivalent) and without a doctoral degree ("pre-doc") Experienced Researcher: In possession of a doctoral degree or at least 4 years of research experience* (full-time equivalent) ("postdoc") All nationalities eligible in general, transnational mobility required All scientific and technological fields are supported (evaluated in 8 scientific panels) * counted from the diploma which entitles the individual to embark on a doctoral degree 5

"Pre-doc" Researcher Experience "Post-doc" Initial Training Networks Who Can Apply? Experienced > 10 years Organisations Initial Training Networks (ITN) - research (doctoral) training programme mainly for Early Stage Researchers provided by a network of universities, businesses and research institutes Three implementation modes > 4 years or PhD ITNs publish job vacancies after the start of the project Early Stage (no PhD) Initial Training Networks In general, transnational mobility required. Fellow cannot have carried out work in the country of the host organisation for more than twelve months over the last three years. < 4 years Eligibility/mobility rule cut-off: recruitment 7

Initial Training Networks Multi-ITN 1. Multipartner ITN: at least three participants* from three EU or FP7 associated countries propose a coherent research training programme and host fellows. Participants can be universities, research centres or companies (large or small). Support for Early Stage Researchers up to 36 months each working on individual projects in the programme (total max 500 months). (Limited participation of Experienced Researchers (up to 24 months each). Initial Training Networks EID 2. European Industrial Doctorates (EID): two participants from two different EU or FP7 associated countries: one academic participant and one from the private sector propose a doctoral training programme. Researcher must enroll in an academic PhD programme and spend at least 50 % of time within the private sector. Support for Early Stage Researchers up to 36 months each working on individual projects in the programme (total max 180 months). Innovative Doctoral Programmes (IDP): one participant (university or research institution) from an EU or FP7 associated country offers an "innovative" doctoral training programme. Training is enhanced by associated partners (other universities, research centres, private sector). Support for Early Stage Researchers up to 36 months each working on individual projects in the programme (total max 500 months). Initial Training Networks Common features for all 3 ITN modes: Successful networks (participants) recruit and host eligible researchers based on the proposed research or doctoral training programme strong element of transnational networking multi/interdisciplinary and emerging fields training primarily through research on individual, personalised research projects complemented by substantial training modules in key transferable skills involvement of private sector entities is considered essential Project duration 48 months Funding: fellow salary (incl. employer costs) + costs for project implementation + management + overheads 11

Organisations Experienced > 10 years Industry Academia Partnerships and Pathways (IAPP) promotes cooperation between commercial sector and academia. > 4 years or PhD Early Stage Industry- Academia Partnerships Pathways Research staff secondment is mandatory Recruitment of experienced researchers is optional (no PhD) < 4 years 13

Industry-Academia Partnerships Pathways In Industry-Academia Partnerships Pathways, at least one academic and one commercial partner from two different EU or FP7 associated countries propose a joint research project for 48 months. Cooperation through secondments of research staff (Early Stage Researchers and Experienced Researchers) between the industrial and academic partners. Recruitment of experienced researchers is possible.
