Job Description JOB TITLE: RESPONSIBLE TO: WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Development Officer Head of Development Head of Press and Marketing Commercial Director Executive Team Senior Programme Manager Head of Short Courses BACKGROUND TO POSITION Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, one of the UK s leading drama schools, is at a key and exciting stage in its development, fuelling the next generation of creative artists regardless of background or income through innovative contemporary training and the championing of new work. As Mountview continues to grow in profile and expand its range of courses, a new home has been identified for the Academy, with plans underway to build a new purpose-built school and theatre in the heart of Peckham, next to the Stirling Prize-winning library. MAIN PURPOSE OF POSITION An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive fundraiser to join Mountview s ambitious Marketing and Development team. Reporting to the Head of Development, the Development Officer will be responsible for working across all areas of fundraising, including individuals, Trusts and Foundations, corporations and events. The post holder will have a particular focus on providing vital support for Mountview s capital campaign as well as building Mountview s revenue fundraising streams, including the alumni network, scholarships and bursary programmes and individual giving initiatives. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Capital Campaign Supporting Mountview s Head of Development and Commercial Director in working towards Mountview s capital campaign target, including: Researching new potential sources of income and compiling detailed prospect research profiles. Assisting the Head of Development with approaches to Trusts and Foundations, major donors and corporations.
Alongside the Head of Development, devising and running a cohesive stewardship plan for campaign donors, to include creating content for supporters newsletters and writing reports to Trusts and Foundations and major donors. Working with the Head of Development to develop and manage initiatives to engage the wider Mountview community, including a seat naming campaign and social media appeal. Revenue Fundraising Supporting Mountview s Head of Development and Commercial Director in delivering annual revenue fundraising targets, including: Assisting with approaches to fund Mountview s ongoing work, including its outreach and community programme and new writing initiatives. Working with the Head of Development to devise and facilitate a regular giving scheme for the academy, including a membership scheme and an annual fund or appeal. Scholarships and Bursaries Building Mountview s scholarships and bursaries scheme, including: Researching potential new scholarship donors from trusts and foundations, individuals and corporations. Compiling and drafting scholarship funding applications. Acting as the key point of contact for associated supporters and leading on a strong timetable of reporting and stewardship of current donors, working with students and faculty to produce regular reports for donors. Alumni Network Managing and running Mountview s alumni network, including: Working closely with Alumni Ambassadors to build up an active alumni network and run a programme of reunion events. Compiling and facilitating a communications plan to engage alumni with Mountview s work, including providing regular updates on Mountview s capital project. Working with staff and students across the school to maximise opportunities for alumni engagement. Working with the Head of Development to lead on approaches to alumni for support for, and endorsement of, Mountview s capital campaign and other fundraising initiatives. Monitoring Mountview s alumni in the industry and press. Events and Administration Contributing to the management, logistics and planning of fundraising events: co-ordinating guest lists; managing invitation mailings and RSVPs; producing briefing notes.
Leading on the management of Mountview s fundraising database, Salesforce: devising and implementing guidelines for use across the organisation; maintaining and updating donor and donation records; attending and organising regular training sessions for staff across Mountview; leading on the data migration, installation and usage of a new fundraising database in late 2017. Assisting with the financial administration of the Marketing and Development department: processing charitable gifts; managing Gift Aid claims; processing invoices and expenses; compiling income and expenditure figures. Supporting the Head of Development with the administration and management of Mountview s Development Advisory Board: arranging and attending meetings; compiling papers; taking minutes. Working with staff across Mountview to maximise opportunities for fundraising communication, data collection and community engagement at Academy-wide events, to include graduation and the annual Christmas concert. Monitoring changes to the guidance on Gift Aid, VAT and HMRC legislation and amend procedures, as appropriate. Other Duties Supporting Mountview s Head of Development and Head of Press and Marketing on any press and promotional activity relating to Mountview s fundraising activities and contributing to print materials and website, including fundraising brochures, films and website pages. Maintaining up-to-date donor listings for all relevant crediting materials. Keeping up to date with best fundraising practice in the field. Building and maintaining networks with colleagues across the development sector. Any other duties as may be reasonably required. PERSON SPECIFICATION Qualifications and Experience 1-2 years experience of working in fundraising. Experience of writing Trust applications, reports and presentations, tailored to the individual criteria of the funder. Experience of running small-scale fundraising campaigns. Experience of working with data, databases and external information to provide detailed research profiles. Experience of using CRM database software (Mountview uses Salesforce). Skills and Abilities Proactive self-starter, able to take personal responsibility for hitting fundraising targets and meeting tight deadlines. Confident team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships with a wide range of people. Excellent time management and organisational skills, with ability to multitask and prioritise. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present well in person.
Strong research skills. Excellent attention to detail. Ability to exercise discretion in dealing with confidential matters. An interest in the arts and/or education sectors. This is a permanent full time post based currently at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, London N22, but with relocation to new premises planned in the short to medium term. This job description is a guide to the nature of the work required of the Development Officer. It is not wholly comprehensive or restrictive and may be reviewed with the post holder and line manager as operationally required. TERMS AND CONDITIONS Salary: Hours: Holiday: Circa 25-26K per annum, depending on experience. 40 per week, normally 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday, with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break each day. Additional hours may be required, as agreed with the post holder and determined by the needs of the business. 28 days in the first year, including bank holidays, pro rata, rising with length of service thereafter. Mountview currently closes during the Christmas break, normally totalling up to 7 days, excluding bank holidays. This is an operational closure period and does not form part of annual leave entitlement, however staff employed by the Academy at that point will be paid for the total period.
