I saw them go through the full spectrum of, from domestic support to end of life. I m passionate about providing high quality home, that is good enough for my family. It s not always easy broaching the subject of with loved ones. We offer some hints and tips, and advice you may wish to consider. Some families find it easier to discuss the concept of domestic support, which is the first step on the road to and supporting someone to safely maintain their independence at home. We believe in a pro-active approach to, which can enhance someone s quality of life for longer. We also believe that in many instances, home is best. Perhaps daily activities, from household chores to personal, are becoming increasingly difficult? Perhaps you have noticed a loved one is struggling to cope or take of themselves in the way you were used to them doing? There are many reasons why we might need a little extra support, from personal needs to health and medical needs, such as dementia or recovering post hospital visit. When these needs arise, the support from one of our workers (or CareAngels as we like to call them) can help make the world of difference for the person receiving support, as well as their family. Questions to consider whether you may benefit from home Are you being discharged from hospital and require convalescence at home? Is cooking meals for yourself becoming a difficult task? Are you living with a progressive medical condition? Do you need assistance in getting to and from appointments? Are you wanting to leave a home but are unsure if your needs can be met in the comfort of your own home? Are everyday tasks becoming a struggle? Do you need some extra support with personal, such as dressing and bathing? Live In Care Home is where the heart is, we believe this is the best alternative to residential Why choose Live In? For quality of life With Live In you will have uniquely tailored, one-toone support. In a /nursing home your schedule may not be your own, as there tends to be a ratio of 4 clients to 1 r with an average of 3.5 hours of being delivered. In hospital, this increases to 8 patients to 1 nurse. You will be able to lead the life you have become accustomed to at home, which is often enhanced with the support of a Live In r, who can accompany you on outings and support you with activities and perhaps hobbies once forgotten. For value Our weekly cost ranges from 945 to 1295 dependent on the level of need; this works out cheaper than most good homes. The cost saving is greater when a couple both need support, as they can share one live-in r rather than paying for two home fees. If you already receive hourly, there is a cost saving after 7.5 hours of hourly support and yet the benefits are greater by having someone there around the clock. Who would benefit from Live In? Home sweet home A recent survey by the Alzheimer s Society says 85% of people do not want to go into a home. After all, there is no place like home; surrounded by pets, friends, family, furniture, your garden, neighbours, and the shops you have always known. Staying in a familiar setting can have particularly positive results for someone living with Dementia. Client s daughter, Petersfield Dementia - comfort of familiar surroundings What you can expect from your r Once your CareAngel has been assigned, you can expect a professional service that follows the agreed plan. This includes assisting with: Food shopping and meal preparation Personal (washing/dressing) Administering medication CareAngels can also assist with minor medical needs such as changing catheter bags, stoma bags or basic first aid. If there is a higher level of medical needed, we are happy to liaise with the district nurse/gp. For dressing wounds, replacing catheters and administering medication intravenously, this can all be coordinated with the local district nurse team at no additional cost. What your Live In r needs You are responsible for providing full board and lodging for your CareAngel. This should include: a bed with adequate bedding, a space to store personal items, bedside table and light, a lockable door, heating, adequate lighting and the use of a bathroom with toilet, basin and shower or bath. We expect our rs to have access to unlimited WiFi. This allows our CareAngels to keep in touch with family members and the office so they feel less isolated. Live In rs are also entitled to 8 hours sleep and a 2 hour break during the day, times of which can be agreed with you. Companionship What is Live In Care? Live In is the popular alternative to residential. But as we get older, feeling close to what s familiar, near to loved ones and surrounded by objects that spark fond memories is even more important. And of course, it goes without saying that wherever we are in the world, whatever we re doing, home has a special place in our hearts. We ve all heard the saying: East or West, home s best. A Live In r can take the pressure off the family and provide that s completely focused on the individual, or couple, providing Peace of Mind for the client and their family. Many families are surprised to find it costs less than they think for 24 hour live in r, she adds. We have some clients who have had the same rs for several years and other clients who have been provided with short term to help families through a difficult period, or perhaps when the main r has been unable to for their husband, wife or partner, owing to hospitalisation or ill health themselves. They also provide companionship, adds Rachel, both in the home and outside on short trips, for a walk, visit the theatre, or out for a meal.
