PURPOSE OF THE POSITION To support the operation of the Sterile Service Unit by providing supervision, assistance and coaching of staff resulting in quality outcomes. To assess the workflow and ensure the staff are able to provide efficient workflow processes to support internal and external customers. NATURE AND SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES Key Accountability To assess work flows over the shift to support service delivery Accountable for overseeing CSSD workflow processes to ensure a quality service. Accountable for direct supervision, guidance, support and participation in work flows to assist with the processing of equipment and instruments. Demonstrated competency in all services to allow for participation and implementation of new processes as directed by CSSD Manager. Liaise with theatre staff and CSSD staff to ensure equipment is processed in a timely manner. Eg. fast track, multiple surgeries Ensure there is appropriate handover communication at each change of shift Identify problems and icssdes and work with Sterile Service Unit Manager to resolve. Ensure accuracy of quality acssdrance / control processes is in compliance and relative to infection control standards Understand policies, procedures and guidelines. Identify unsafe practice and respond appropriately to ensure safe outcome keeping Sterile Service Unit Manager informed. Responsible for addressing and resolving errors within your area Accountable for ensuring CSSD technicians maintain a clean, tidy and safe work area at all times. PRODUCTION Decontamination Inspection Cleanliness and Function and Packing Responsible for ensuring that the dismantling of contaminated trolleys and packs prevents the loss of instruments or injury. Accountable to ensure that the correct decontamination process are selected Identify urgent equipment for priority processing such as fast tracking Accountable to ensure that instruments are inspected and tested for cleanliness and function as specified to meet all quality standards Accountable for ensuring all products / sets are packaged in the correct manner as specified by manufacturer recommendations, recipes and content pack.
Key Accountability Supervise staff to ensure that all sets are complete and correct for the end user. Sterilisation and storage Accountable for ensuring the correct method of sterilisation processes are selected and used as appropriate. Responsible to ensure correct storage and distribution processes are maintained Testing and recording, compliance, repair and maintenance. In consultation with the CSSD Manager ensure accurate lists and recipes for equipment are maintained as well as notifying inaccurate lists and equipment. Responsible for ensuring all statistics are correct and completed to as indicated Responsible for ensuring that all machines meet test parameters and recording are endorsed with any error reported immediately. Accountable for notifying CSSD Manager and educator of staff competency and where further training is required. Knowledge of correct chemical usage, including safety compliance. To maintain professional development Undertake annual appraisal, establishing goals and objectives. Maintain own clinical competence. Provide staff performance feedback to the CSSD Manager and clinical Educator Accountable for ensuring that own practice is current and supports all areas of service delivery Resources Take into consideration the skill mix when delegating work Risk and Quality Systems Comply with Health and Safety requirements and participate in proactive hazard identification Information and systems technology. Experience: Recent senior CSSD experience. Credentialed to work in all areas of CSSD department. Work Related Skills: High level of written and verbal communication. Proven ability for priority setting/time management.
Good problem solving/planning, communication skills. Conflict management skills. Ability to work independently and be a team member. Computer skills in Oracle, PiMS, onestaff Knowledge of AN/NZS 4187 standard Knowledge of T-DOC or similar tracking system Knowledge of loan set process Knowledge of mechanical operations of various types of sterilising equipment ie Steam, Sterrad, Steris Medivator Personal Attributes: A high standard of personal work ethic; time management skills; the ability to work autonomously.
