Overview This standard covers reducing the potential for pathogenic organisms to enter a site and by maintaining site hygiene and bi-security. Good hygiene and bio-security arrangements are essential to the successful operation of any business within the land-based sector. The exact arrangements for maintaining hygiene and bio-security will depend upon the environment in which you work and the activities carried out. Maintaining biosecurity is the responsibility of everyone who enters the site, and you will be expected to encourage others, particularly visitors, contractors or customers to follow established procedures. If you are working with chemicals or machinery you need to be appropriately trained in line with current legislation, and hold a relevant award where appropriate. You must carry out your work in a way which will consider any impact on the natural environment. This standard is suitable for anyone working in an environment where site hygiene and bio-security must be maintained. LANCS61 1

Performance criteria You must be able to: P1 maintain the correct on-site hygiene and bio-security measures in accordance with legal/organisational requirements P2 maintain hygiene and bio-security measures for personnel, equipment and vehicles P3 check visitors and drivers of vehicles to use the correct hygiene and bio-security procedures when entering and leaving the site P4 follow the correct cleaning and hygiene measures in accordance with organisational requirements P5 use cleaning equipment that is suitable for the work safely and effectively P6 use chemicals according to specification regarding dilution rates, uses and health and safety precautions P7 store all chemicals safely and correctly after use P8 recognise and report any cases of rodent, pest infestation or any other contamination P9 take steps to avoid unncessary cross contamination whilst on site P10 maintain your own personal hygiene to a high standard and in accordance with organisational requirements P11 wear suitable clothing and personal protective equipment at work in accordance with legal or organisational requirements P12 recognise and report all concerns regarding hygiene and bio-security to the appropriate person P13 complete, and encourage visitors to complete, the necessary hygiene records as required P14 keep accurate and up-to-date records as required by legislation and organisational requirements P15 follow organisational and industry environmental good practice to minimise environmental damage P16 deal with waste safely and in accordance with legislation P17 carry out all work in accordance with relevant environmental and health and safety legislation, risk assessment requirements, codes of practice and company policies LANCS61 2
