2017-2018 Uniform for Community Scholarships This scholarship booklet is comprised of many scholarships offered by Fishers and Hamilton County community organizations as well as the Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation. Students will use one uniform online application to apply for any of the scholarships listed in this booklet. 1
2017-2018 Uniform for Community Scholarships & Eligibility Requirements For Students Graduating from Fishers High School & Hamilton Southeastern High School Introduction The Uniform for Community Scholarships was created to help FHS and HSEHS seniors be more efficient with the use of their time when applying for scholarships. In addition, and more importantly, utilizing this application will allow seniors to spend meaningful time writing essays for scholarships and providing other more specific information to spotlight themselves as qualified for the individual scholarships. Seniors, it is an outstanding initiative on your part to take the necessary steps to apply for any of these scholarships. Thanks to a generous donation from the Fishers Rotary Club, FHS and HSEHS in partnership with the Hamilton Southeastern Schools Foundation have launched an online application platform called SmarterSelect. Before beginning the Uniform for Community Scholarships online process, please read the specific Scholarship Eligibility Requirements for each scholarship found in this booklet. Some scholarships require letters of recommendation. Students may upload letters already in their possession or contact potential references via the SmarterSelect system. Section A submittal Instructions 1. Each application should be submitted using the SmarterSelect program. 2. First, complete the Uniform at https://hsefoundation.org/what-wedo/scholarships/uniform-application-for-community-scholarships/ 3. Then go back to the list of individual scholarships and click on the first scholarship that you are applying for and submit the information and documents needed for that scholarship. 4. It is then necessary to click on each individual scholarship you are applying for and submit the information and documents needed for that scholarship because each scholarship has specific requirements. 5. If a scholarship requires sealed recommendation letter(s), complete the email portion of the reference section to request the recommender send the recommendation letter directly to the scholarship sponsor. You will need contact information for your recommender. 6. Required items not included with your application may disqualify you for the scholarship. 7. It is the student s responsibility to submit the application and any additional documentation by the due date. The due dates vary and are indicated both on the Available Scholarships List on the next page and in the Eligibility Requirements for each scholarship. 3

BSE Luke Butler Senior Scholarship Due 3-28-18 In memory of Luke Butler, Brooks School Elementary will present two scholarships to graduating seniors from either HSEHS and/or FHS Must be a senior at FHS or HSEHS Must have attended Brooks School Elementary for a minimum of one full school year Must submit a written explanation of post-high school plans Must submit a written explanation of how the scholarship will be used Must submit an essay on a life lesson learned while attending BSE that impacted the applicant s life Must have one letter of reference Selection Process: A selection committee which consists of BSE staff members will evaluate student applications and select scholarship recipients. Citizen s Police Academy Alumni Association Scholarship Due 3-28-18 One $1500 scholarship is available to a high school senior who expresses a strong interest in the criminal justice field. Must be accepted to a university, seeking to attend full time, and possess school leadership, community commitment and desire to contribute to society. One award will be made to a senior at either FHS or HSEHS Must be a senior at FHS or HSEHS Must have a minimum 2.5 GPA Must have a strong interest in the criminal justice field Must have two letters of reference: one from a teacher and one from a school counselor, coach or community leader Must submit a 500+ word essay indicating why you have chosen a law enforcement related career and how you specifically plan to meet that goal After the Alumni Board reviews all applications and essays, you will be notified of your status and may be contacted to set up an interview time if you are selected. Cumberland Road Elementary School Senior Scholarship For Fishers High School Seniors Only Due 3-28-18 Cumberland Road Elementary school will present two scholarships to graduating seniors from Fishers High School who attended Cumberland Road Elementary School for a minimum of one full school year. A selection committee which consists of CRES staff members will evaluate student applications and select our scholarship recipient. The winners will be honored at the Fishers High School Senior Awards night. Must be a senior at FHS Must have attended Cumberland Road Elementary for a minimum of one full school year (indicate dates/years attended CRES) Must submit a written explanation of post-high school plans Must submit a written explanation (200 words or less) of how the scholarship will be used Must submit an essay (1-2 pages) on a life lesson learned while attending CRES that impacted the applicant s life Must have one letter of recommendation from a current teacher, counselor or employer who can attest to student s character and academic potential X 12
Darrel J. Forsman Memorial Scholarship For Fishers High School Seniors Only Due 3-28-18 This scholarship honors the legacy of Darrel J. Forsman. A $500 scholarship will be awarded. Must be a swimmer at FHS (male or female) Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must have demonstrated volunteer experiences either at school or in the community Must submit a brief summary of your college and career plans/goals. Also include a summary of how swimming helped you achieve success in and out of the pool, both academically and athletically 13
Dr. & Mrs. Malcolm Bray Medical Scholarship Due 3-28-18 A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to one graduating senior from both Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School Eligibility Requirements Must be a senior in Hamilton County Must be planning a career in the health care field (associate or bachelor s degree in a medical field, such as nursing, physical therapy, lab technology, etc.) Dental hygiene does not qualify. Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher Must have demonstrated service to the community Must write an essay describing what types of contribution you plan to make in society following completion of your college/vocational training Must submit a statement including one paragraph describing your service to your school and one paragraph describing your service to community 14
Durbin Elementary Scholarship In Memory of Nettie Ann Schembra Due 3-28-18 This scholarship is awarded to a Durbin student who is a graduate of HSEHS or FHS to help further his/her future endeavors, whether it be college, technical or trade school. Amount varies but it is typically $200. Eligibility REQUIREMENTS: Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must have been a Durbin student 2 nd - 4 th grades (provide dates attended DES) Must submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or employer Must submit a brief summary of why you should be considered for a Durbin Elementary Scholarship. Include an explanation of how this scholarship will benefit you and the years and grades you attended Durbin. Must be a minimum of 250 words and not exceed 500 words. X 15
Fishers Dental Alliance Scholarship 3-28-18 A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at both Hamilton Southeastern High School and Fishers High School Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must major in a field related to dentistry (dentist, dental hygienist, etc.) Must attend a two or four-year college or university Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must be involved in a variety of activities Must make a statement of your plans as they relate to your educational and career objectives and future goals 16
Fishers High School Alumni Association Scholarship Due 3-28-18 Four scholarships will be awarded (two to HSEHS seniors and two to FHS seniors) to students planning to attend a college, university or trade school. Preference will be given to students having a relative who attended the original Fishers High School or Hamilton Southeastern High School. Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must write a short essay about yourself Must list any relative who attended and/or graduated from the original Fishers High School or Hamilton Southeastern High School Scholarships are made payable to the intended school of choice and not directly to the recipient 17
Fishers High School National Honor Society Scholarship 3-28-18 A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a FHS NHS senior member in good standing. Must be a senior at FHS Must be a member in good standing of the FHS National Honor Society Must submit two letters of recommendation (exclusive of NHS Advisors) Must write a short essay explaining how you have exemplified the four pillars of National Honor Society. Fishers Rotary Club Scholarship 3-28-18 This scholarship is offered to non-rotarian children who are graduating seniors from FHS or HSEHS. Applicants are judged on citizenship, community service and the concept of service above self. Must be a senior at FHS or HSEHS Must provide a letter from a current teacher that describes the student s citizenship, community service and overall qualities that they would like to be considered Must write a short response to three essay questions X 19
Fishers Sertoma Club Scholarship 3-28-18 One mission of the Sertoma Club is to serve those at risk or impacted by hearing loss. As a result, preference for this scholarship will be given to students that have experienced hearing loss, hearing impairment or speech impairment. Preference will also be given to students who serve in this field either in a volunteer or future career capacity (examples include, but are not limited to, ASL experience, majoring in audiology, speech pathology, etc.) Students without this experience remain eligible to apply provided they meet the eligibility requirements. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at both Fishers High School and Hamilton Southeastern High School. Geist Elementary Memorial Scholarship 3-28-18 Sponsored by Geist Elementary PTO, the Geist Elementary Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to one male and one female student graduating from either Hamilton Southeastern High School or Fishers High School Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must have attended Geist Elementary for one complete school year K-4 Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must be planning on attending a four-year college or university Be active in a variety of activities Must make a statement of your educational plans, career objectives and future goals Must write a 300-500 word essay on what attending GES meant to you in your education 21
Hamilton County Extension Homemakers Scholarship Due 3-1-18 Four $500 scholarships will be awarded to Hamilton County students intending to major in fields related to Health and Human Sciences at Purdue University. In addition, two $500 scholarships will be awarded to Hamilton County students intending to major in elementary education. HSEHS Drama Club Scholarship 3-28-18 Recipients of the Drama Club Scholarship exemplify selflessness, dedication, and a passion for the performing arts. Their hard work both in and out of the classroom makes them an outstanding student and a role model for their peers. The scholarship recipients will be announced at the HSEHS Senior Awards Program. Must be a senior at HSEHS Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must have two years of participation in the HSEHS Drama Club Must plan on attending a four-year college, not majoring in the performing arts Must submit two 500 word essays in response to prompts 24
HSE Education Association Scholarship for People who Intend to Become Teachers Due 3-28-18 Two scholarships will be awarded to seniors who intend to become teachers. School involvement, community service, character, work ethic and deservedness considered. One scholarship is allocated to each high school. HSEHS Key Club Shelley Link Memorial Scholarship 3-28-18 This $500 scholarship will be awarded to a senior from HSEHS who exemplifies characteristics of Shelley Link. These characteristics include the action of putting other people first, community service, kindness and caring. Shelley Link was active in the community, inspired people to do their very best and treated others with mutual respect. In May, 2013, her life was cut short by melanoma cancer. This scholarship serves to honor her memory. Must be a senior at HSEHS Must have a minimum weighted 3.0 GPA Must provide one to two letters of recommendation Must submit an essay or personal story no more than 400 words describing how you exemplify the characteristics of community service, kindness and caring in your life X 26
Hannah Wilson Memorial Scholarship 3-28-18 This scholarship was established in honor of Hannah Wilson, a 2011 graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School. Hannah was a varsity basketball cheerleader all four years, as well as an all-star cheerleader at Indiana Elite. She was a positive leader, a great encourager and a person of high values and integrity. Her family and friends were her greatest passion, and that was evident in the way she treated them. Hannah lived life with great energy and excitement, always ready for the next challenge. This scholarship will be awarded to a senior from HSEHS and a senior from FHS who was a basketball cheerleader and who embodies the character that Hannah did. Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must have participated on the Basketball Cheer Squad Must plan on attending a two-year or four-year college, vocational or trade school Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must submit an essay describing any life lessons that were learned through cheerleading and how that impacted your personal growth. Describe how you will pay those lessons forward in the coming years. 27
Jason Sipher Memorial Scholarship 3-28-18 This scholarship was established in honor of Jason Sipher, a 2011 graduate of Fishers High School. Jason was a dedicated athlete in wrestling, cross-country and track, lettering numerous times. He was awarded the Heart of the Tiger award in his senior season of cross-country. Jason also served on the Student Athletic Council and returned several times post-graduation to assist in wresting or running clubs or events. He was a relentless optimist and a persuasive writer with an affinity for the most ridiculous one-liner jokes such as those found on Laffy Taffy wrappers. Artistically, he was an accomplished origami folder with more than one hundred written volumes of origami texts in his personal library. Magic Wand Scholarship by Hunter Law Office, P.C. 3-23-18 The Magic Wand Scholarship by Hunter Estate and Elder Law will be awarded to the applicant who, in the judgment of the selection committee, appears most deserving based on the scholarship criteria. One scholarship will be given to a student from Hamilton County. Must be at least a senior in high school (current college students may also apply) Must be or will be a graduate of a high school in Hamilton County Must be enrolling in college or attending college Must submit one personal recommendation May be asked to appear before the selection committee for a personal interview Must submit an essay response to a prompt Letter of recommendation 3-23-18 X X X 30
Morgan Family Scholarship 3-28-18 The Morgan Family Scholarship is intended to foster opportunity for a student who has demonstrated strong academic performance and wants to pursue higher education, but has extenuating financial challenges or hardships. A $1500 per year, four-year scholarship ($6000 total) will be awarded to a senior at either Fishers High School or Hamilton Southeastern High School who has demonstrated a strong academic performance and has a great financial need in order to attend college. Orchard Project Scholarship 03-28-18 The Old Town Design Group, LLC of Carmel believes by investing in the success of today s students we are investing in the success of tomorrow s home building industry. Therefore, we have established the Orchard Project Scholarship to provide tuition assistance to a Hamilton County student preparing for a career in the construction industry. One $2500 scholarship will be awarded. Must be a high school senior who has applied to an accredited college, university or technical school OR be an undergraduate student attending one of these institutions Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a housing related program such as construction management, residential building, construction technology, architecture or any of the construction trade specialties offered by the institution you will attend Must be a resident of Hamilton County Must submit an essay (minimum 200 words) 32
Peterson Family Scholarship 3-28-18 The Peterson Family Scholarship was established to recognize, in memoriam, Roma Peterson, a 1942 Fishers High School graduate. Roma taught English at Fishers High School for 16 years and at Hamilton Southeastern High School for 16 years. Her son, Mike, a 1967 FHS graduate, served on the HSE School Board for nine years and was a co-founder of the HSE School Foundation. Mike s wife, Paula, worked for the HSE Foundation in establishing the HSE Endowment Fund. Roma s other son, Kevin (deceased) and grandsons Tony, Mark and Nick are HSEHS graduates. Four generations of the Peterson Family are either graduates of FHS/HSEHS or have worked for or served in various volunteer capacities for the HSE School District. A $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a FHS senior and a HSEHS senior. Richard H. Crosser Memorial Scholarship 3-28-18 A $500 to $3,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior(s) at Hamilton Southeastern High School and/or Fishers High School in honor of Richard H. Crosser Must be a senior at HSEHS or FHS Must intend to major in a field related to building trades (accounting, engineering, architecture, business, interior design, etc.) Must plan on attending a two or four year Indiana college or university Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA Must be involved in a variety of activities Must submit a statement describing your educational plans, career objectives and future goals. 34

The 2007 Boys Cross Country State Championship Team Scholarship 3-28-18 This scholarship has been established in honor of the 10 year anniversary of the 2007 Boys Cross Country State Championship Team who brought home the first state championship trophy to Fishers High School on October 27, 2007. Initially considered underdogs as a team that had only been together for a year, the team went in that day undefeated for the season as they won every meet leading up to that day. A $750 scholarship will be awarded to a FHS senior that demonstrates leadership ability, commitment to team, dedication and hard work. Thomas E. Reece Scholarship 3-28-18 This $500 scholarship is in memory of Thomas E. Reece and supported by the Sherpa Financial Group. Thorpe Creek Elementary Scholarship Due 3-28-18 The purpose of this $500 scholarship is to provide a Thorpe Creek Elementary student who is a graduate of HSEHS or FHS a grant to help further his/her future endeavors, whether it be college, technical, or trade school. A selection committee which consists of TCE staff members will evaluate student applications and select scholarship recipients. The winner(s) will be honored at the High School Senior Awards Program.
