Michigan Medical Career Scholarship Candidates shall be daughters, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons of honorably discharged or deceased men or women veterans. Scholarships shall be for training men and women for medical careers. Applicants should be in the top quarter of their class. Applicant must be a resident of the State of Michigan at the time of application and for one year proceeding the date of filing application. Scholarship must be used in a school in Michigan. (See website for more details.) Deadline: March 15, 2018 2. Michigan Memorial Scholarship (for daughters, granddaughters and greatgranddaughters of any honorably discharged or deceased men/women Veterans). Applicant must be a resident of the State of Michigan at the time of application and for one year preceding the date of this award. Applicant must be in her senior year of high school, or freshman/sophomore year of college but not over 21 years of age. (See website for more details.) Deadline: March 15, 2018 3. Children of Warriors National Presidents Scholarship Candidates for this award shall be daughters, sons, grandsons, granddaughters, great-granddaughters, great-grandsons of veterans who served in the Armed Forces during eligibility dates for membership in The American Legion. (See rules for dates.) Applicants must be in their senior year of high school. Applicant must complete 50 hours of volunteer service within the community during his/her high school years. Hours must be verified in writing by the recipient organization(s). This is a scholarship to attend an accredited institution of higher 5
learning. Applicants must present the completed application to their local American Legion Auxiliary Unit President on or before March 1, 2018. (See website for more details.) 4. National Spirit of Youth Scholarship for Junior Members Candidates for this award shall be/shall have been Junior members of the American Legion Auxiliary, held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary for the past three consecutive years (2015, 2016, 2017) and must be a paid member of the current (2018) membership year. Applicant must continue her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary during the scholarship period. (See rules for more details.) Applicant must be in her senior year of high school. This is a scholarship to attend an accredited institution of higher education. Applicant must be of good character and have grades which meet entrance requirements at the institution of their choice. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA using a 4.0 base. Applicant must present the completed application to her local American Legion Auxiliary Unit President on or before March 1, 2018. AMERICAN LEGION LEGACY SCHOLARSHIP Deadline: TBD To qualify and apply for this scholarship, you must be able to answer YES to the following 3 questions 1. Are you currently a high school senior and/or accepted at or attending an institution of higher education? 2. Is your institution of higher education a nonprofit and regionally-accredited institution? (If you are unsure, contact your institution s admission office. Regional accreditation applies to the whole school not a program.) 3. Does at least one of the following statements apply to you? a. A legal parent of mine died while serving on active duty, U.S. military service on or after September 11, 2001. (Does not have to be a death out-of-country or in combat.) b. A legal parent of mine is a Post-9/11 veteran of the U.S. military, who has been given a disability rating of 50% or higher by the Veterans Administration. MARINE CORPS LEAGUE BRANCH AREA DETACHMENT #763 SCHOLARSHIP Deadline: May 1, 2018 First preference is to any current member of B.A.D.M.C.L. Detachment #763 who is currently enrolled or has been accepted in 2-year, 4-year, Junior College, or University. Sons, daughters, step-sons, step-daughters, or spouses, and grandchildren of B.A.D.M.C.L. members. Any honorably discharged Marine in need of rehabilitative training not provided in government programs. Supersedes 2-year, 4-year or trade school programs for prior Marines only. Not applicable to students without prior Marine Corps service. Sons, daughters, step-sons, step-daughters, spouses or grandchildren of Marines who have lost their lives in the line of duty. THE MICHIGAN EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP Deadline: February 22, 2018 Go to http://www.mea.org/mea-scholarship to apply Dependent of an MEA member or MEA-Retired member in good standing Graduate of a Michigan public high school or private high school that has an MEA bargaining unit Will attend or is currently an undergraduate student of a Michigan public community/junior college, four-year degree-granting institution, or vocational training institution that grants a degree, certification or license. Those attending the following private institutions ONLY are also eligible: Baker College-Flint/Owosso; University of Detroit-Mercy; Adrian College; Finlandia University; and Albion College. (The aforementioned private institutions are existing local MEA affiliates). *Note: Children of MEA officers, fund trustees, and MEA staff are not eligible. (A child of an MEA, MESSA or MEA-FS staff person is eligible if the other parent is an MEA member in good standing).
