SECTION I: GENERAL INFORMATION Position Title: Nutrition Coordinator Immediate Supervisor s Position Title: Director of Food and Nutrition Services POSITION DESCRIPTION WILLMAR PUBLIC SCHOOLS Department: Food and Nutrition Services FLSA Status: Non-Eempt Job Summary: Handle students on special diets. Develop The Healthy Family Monthly Newsletter. Assist with monthly menu development. Maintain the NutriKids software menu data base/analysis. Oversee Head Start: site issues, production record/menu review and monthly billing. Manage the After School Snack menus and production records. Works to standardize recipes and monitors compliance to the recipes at all sites. Chair the district s Wellness Committee and work to implement the district s Wellness Policy. Provide monthly nutrition education or new product testing. Assist with annual update to department policies, manuals, forms, and website. Assist with grant writing and reporting. Conduct site visits to review regulation and paperwork requirements. Complete projects and other tasks as needed, requested or assigned. SECTION II: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct individual diet assessment and manages students with special dietary needs through menus and consultations. Assist with creating menus for student nutrition programs, based on sound nutritional concepts that meet the USDA guidelines and Minnesota Department of Education regulations. Conduct computer-based analysis of school meals for nutritional values and compliance with state and federal guidelines, including: 1. Gather nutritional information on products 2. Creating standardized recipes for the menu and verifying data 3. Data entry of nutrient information sheets on vendor products 4. Handle the monthly menu and daily food production records distribution process. At all school sites: Direct the use of standardized recipes in controlling food quality, recipe yield and portion size. Manage the After School Snack menus and production records. Develop The Healthy Family Newsletter each month. Creates promotional/informational nutrition fact sheets about the Food and Nutrition Services program for distribution to students, staff, community, and on the district s website. Oversee Head Start: site issues, production record/menu review and monthly billing. Assist with selection and evaluation of food products for menus through taste testing. Coordinate special events promotion such as National Nutrition Month, National School Lunch and Breakfast Weeks. Chair the district s Wellness Committee and work to implement the district s Wellness Policy. Act as the liaison between the Food and Nutrition Services Department and the students, staff and community by attending meetings and working with nurses, instructional coordinators, and teachers. Provide nutrition education materials to district faculty and Head Cooks. Develop and conduct in-service nutrition related training in classrooms as resource personnel. Assist with annual updates to department manuals, forms and policies such as the Wellness Policy, Job Routines, Standardized Recipe Manual, and the Employee Handbook. Assist with grant writing, implementation and reporting. Teach nutrition to Food and Nutrition Services Staff as needed. Attend meetings as requested and assigned. Attend all Mandatory In-services on Employee Right to Know and Chemical Awareness. Attend Minnesota School Nutrition Association and Dietetics professional association meetings on a state level, as appropriate and the budget allows.

Perform other duties as assigned or requested to contribute to the efficient operation of the Food and Nutrition Services Department and the Willmar Public Schools. SECTION III: WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS EDUCATION/KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENT: Minimum education required to perform adequately in position could reasonably be attained only by completing the following: REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING (choose one) less than high school diploma High school diploma or GED. 1 year college 2 years college 3 years college X 4 years college 1st year graduate level 2nd year graduate level Doctorate level DEGREE INFORMATION: Type of degree: (B.S., M.A., etc.) Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics or Food and Nutrition from an accredited college or university. Major field of study or degree emphasis: Completion of appropriate internship or equivalent. School Nutrition Association Certification at level 3 or willingness to obtain. Registered Dietitian status. One to two years prior dietetics eperience preferred or completed an approved internship. Essential knowledge and specialized subject knowledge required to perform the essential functions of the job: Ability to work in a team environment, provide strong leadership and share decision making. Knowledge of school nutrition standards and quantity food service production. Ability to taste and evaluate all foods. Must have basic accounting knowledge. Computer skills to complete projects, work with program specific computer software, and is willing to learn new software systems. Required Work Eperience in Addition to Formal Education/Training: LICENSE/ CERTIFICATION Identify licenses/certification required upon hiring: School Nutrition Association Certification at Level 3 or willingness to obtain. ESSENTIAL SKILLS REQUIRED TO PERFORM THE WORK Skilled in: Must demonstrate ecellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate commitment to promote and enhance diversity within the work environment. Must have the ability to organize and coordinate projects. Ability to relate to students, teachers, parents, central office staff and other customers.
