WARRIOR TRANSITION PROGRAM SEMBACH, GERMANY WELCOME ABOARD! PRE-ARRIVAL INFORMATION
WHAT IS THE WARRIOR TRANSITION PROGRAM? The Navy developed the Warrior Transition Program (WTP) to facilitate the IA Sailors return and reintegration process with Families, Commands, and Communities following a war zone deployment. The program involves a series of briefs and workshops that are designed to help Sailors make the transition back to the United States, or their next duty station overseas. REGISTRATION AND PREPARATION FOR WTP Contact your in-country NAVCENT Forward Headquarters 45-60 days out from your BOG enddate to register for the Warrior Transition Program. Ensure your request date is at least ten days prior to your BOG end-date. Sailors assigned in Kuwait should contact their NAVELSG operations team or when not attached to NAVELSG and when appropriate contact the Warrior Transition Program directly for your class quota and coordinate with Kuwait LNOs for follow on travel. At the same time you must contact your NAVCENT FWD HQ to check your current IA and DEMOB orders for errors. The most common and time consuming issues that delay your departure home is to begin travel out of country on incorrect orders. The most common errors are: Missing I-stop at WTP WTP I-stop after NMPS Site No NMPS Site Missing or Wrong Fiscal year accounting data If in doubt have the NAVCENT FWD HQ screen your orders. Prior to detaching from your assigned command you must have a stamped and signed set of Transfer Orders (Demobilization Orders for Reservists), and a Theater Release Letter (signed by an O-6 or above). Also, check your Military ID Card. Inform your chain of command immediately to obtain a replacement if your ID card is severely damaged, or expires within 30 days of your BOG enddate.
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS DAY ONE - ARRIVAL (Normally Wednesday): Meet & Greet and Admin Brief Redeployers will arrive at Ramstein Air Force Base Germany via normal rotator flight from Manas or by commercial airline travel to Frankfurt International Airport. Upon arrival, you will go through a quick customs inspection (hand carried items only). If you arrive via rotator, WTP staff will go over the plan of the week, endorse your orders, have you sign a page-13 detailing certain NAVCENT policies, collect your weapons, hand-out your flight information to get you to your NMPS site and escort you to the WTP facility at Sembach, Germany. If you arrive via commercial flight into Frankfurt, the WTP staff will meet you at the USO. Once you have accounted for all of your gear/luggage the staff will help you load onto a bus for transportation to Sembach. Before you leave for WTP, pack your personal gear separate from the gear you will return. ARRIVAL AT WTP SEMBACH: CHECK-IN & ADMIN BRIEF Upon arrival at WTP you will unload your gear in our main tent, receive berthing assignments, and get a short Admin in-brief that will detail your schedule during your time at WTP. If you arrive at WTP with any pre-existing medical condition or current injury please inform the WTP medical team or CDO as soon as possible.
DAY TWO (Normally Thursday): WORKSHOPS & WEAPON CLEANING Warrior Transition Workshops (Bldg 219), endorsed by the CNO, are designed to facilitate a positive beginning for the journey home. In addition to sharing their unique deployment experience, Sailors will also have the opportunity to discuss issues and challenges surrounding the post-deployment period. Workshops are facilitated by the WTP Care Team, which consists of two Navy Nurses, two Navy Chaplains, and one Corpsman. The WTP Care team is also available to all redeployers for one-on-one counseling. Weapons cleaning (Tent/Armory) requires all weapons to meet inspection standards and be free of all oils prior to turn-in. Organized weapon cleaning times are scheduled in the mornings and early afternoon depending on class size. Tips for Weapons Cleaning: Clean weapons prior to arrival at WTP; have a flashlight handy and bring your issued cleaning kit and q-tips; babywipes are okay for gun cleaning. If your weapon is already clean upon arrival, the faster you will get through inspection.
DAY THREE (Normally Friday): DEPARTURE BRIEF, GEAR DROP/TURN-IN & DECOMPRESSION The Travel Brief (Bldg 220) is specifically designed to brief the redeployer on the plan of action for returning to NMPS. WTP Travel Department will brief redeployers on flying out of Germany via either rotator or commercial, uniform wear is required to BWI (if on the rotator), what to do upon arrival at BWI (rotator) or other ports of entry (commercial) and final redeployment/demobilization processing at NMPS to include TAP requirements for reservists. Gear drop (Tent/Armory) normally takes place immediately following the travel brief and is where redeployers turn in all gear issued. There is bad information being given at other locations, ALL issued gear is returned at WTP. Please anticipate handing everything in; if there is an exception to an item we will let you know here at WTP. Tips for Gear Drop: Separate your personal items from organizational issued equipment and gear. Remove all personal paperwork from pockets, pouches etc. Do not bring any personal items to gear drop. Separate all the attachments from equipment belt (Molle gear, Canteen Pouches, etc) and remove plates from vest. If you are not sure, bring it! See a comprehensive issued gear list and additional instruction on the CTF-IA website. (address provided in the back of this handout). The government issued 3-day/assault pack is a turn-in item at WTP. Therefore, you won t have that pack available as a carry-on for your departure from WTP. Plan accordingly. Trips off base are possible while at WTP. These trips allow redeployers to participate in command sponsored decompression trips off base to experience the German culture. These trips will not have priority over mission-required tasks or workshops and are not a guaranteed event, but the WTP staff will make every effort to ensure these trips take place. The Ramstein Exchange Trip normally takes place after gear drop (for large redeploying classes, this trip may occur on another day or be omitted depending on schedule of mandatory events). Sign up for this trip at the quarterdeck. It is an optional event, normally a two-hour excursion, and allows for purchase of civilian clothes if needed or other items if needed/desired.
DAY FOUR (normally Saturday): DECOMPRESSION TIME & OTHER ACTIVITIES Days four and five are designed to allow redeployers adequate time to decompress and adjust to the changes that await them back home. Recreational activities, religious services, and essential white-space comprise these days. The second decompression trip is a Saturday afternoon day-trip to Heidelberg. Redeployers need to plan accordingly if they want to attend this trip. Weapons cleaning must be complete and civilian attire must be worn (which can be purchased, if needed, on Friday during the Ramstein trip). There is a small transportation fee to attend this trip and sign-up can be done at the WTP Quarterdeck. DAY FIVE (Normally Sunday): DECOMPRESSION TIME & PROGRAM SURVEYS Program surveys (Bldg 220) are the final evolution before send-off. These surveys help the WTP staff to improve quality of life, provide effective mental and physical health assessments, efficiently collect weapons and gear, and facilitate a smooth and relaxing atmosphere before transition back to the Navy for redeploying Sailors. It is a quick evolution, taking only a few minutes. The remainder of the day is spent decompression and preparing for departure the next morning.
DAY SIX: DEPARTURE: Normally Monday morning Muster for departure (lounge Bldg 219) normally takes place very early in the morning (typically 0530) (times may change depending on orders/class size). All bags must be packed and ready to go, rooms cleaned and keys handed-in at muster. Typically, all redeployers depart on the rotator and process through customs before boarding the charter. A uniform is required for rotator flights. In contrast, if scheduled for commercial departure, proper civilian attire is required. Sailors should have both a uniform and civilian attire at WTP in the event that planned flight arrangements change. Contact your local NAVCENT FWD Command with general questions or issues surrounding your departure from country, or for more specific info regarding WTP, contact the staff directly with the information provided below. On behalf of the WTP Staff, we look forward to meeting our shipmates who have made countless sacrifices in loyal service to our Country. Thank you and Welcome Aboard!
