GENERAL INFORMATION CHILDREN S PROGRAM HEADQUARTERS Although each Children s Program group has its own headquarters, the main headquarters for the Children s Program is located in Phillips Brooks House. Harvard Alumni Association (HAA) staff will be at the information desk from 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. on Commencement Day) until midnight to answer your questions and render assistance. Security personnel will be on duty from midnight until 8:00 a.m. in case of emergencies. CHILDREN S PROGRAM OVERVIEW It is recommended that parents escort their children to the appropriate age-specific group headquarters or point of departure each day. Each group of children will have its own full program. Breakfast has been scheduled daily at Annenberg Hall starting at 6:30 a.m. so that children can join their groups in time for the first activity, depending on the particular day. Please note start times in this guide. Children should finish breakfast by the time indicated in parentheses in order to be on time for their first activity. If a child is signed up for the evening program only, please meet up with your group s student staff/directors at the Evening Headquarters starting at 6:30 p.m. It is very important that parents notify their child s group whenever a child will not participate in a scheduled activity. Entire groups are delayed if a child is unaccounted for. Please notify the group director or a staff member directly if your child will not be participating in a particular activity. You may also call headquarters at 617-879-8885 and inform the staff on duty. TICKETS AND NAME BADGES Name badges will serve as identification and tickets for all Children s Program events and care. Children must wear their name badges at all times during Reunion. For children with allergies or medication, a special notation will be made on the 1
2 name badge to allow staff to easily identify the child s needs. All allergies and medication will be checked beforehand by the directors and upon registration. LIABILITY FOR INJURY OR LOSS Every reasonable precaution is being taken for the safety of your children. However, no individual or committee can or does assume liability for injury to any person or for loss of, or damage to, property at any time or place during Reunion. TIPPING STUDENT STAFF Students perform various duties throughout Reunion and greatly appreciate gratuities. An envelope for gratuities will be provided in your registration packet for your convenience; please write the group and counselor s name on the envelope. HALF-DAYS/PART-DAYS DURING THE DAY PROGRAM If you would like your child to join the day s activities once activities have begun and need assistance locating the group, please proceed to Phillips Brooks House. HAA staff will contact the appropriate group director and coordinate a meeting. It is your responsibility to drop off your child with the group s staff. If your child cannot meet up with the group because the group is off campus, he or she will be able to meet up with his or her group when they return. EVENING PROGRAM Evening Program supervision begins at 6:30 p.m. and ends at 12:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly. If you plan to attend the Boston Pops concert on Saturday and your child will only be attending the evening program, you can drop off your child at the dinner location starting at 5:00 p.m. Children ages 8 and younger will eat at Lehman Hall, Dudley House, while children ages 9 and older will eat at the tents in front of Phillips Brooks House. Children ages 9 and older will attend the Boston Pops concert as part of the Evening Program.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Where do I go if my child is late? If your child is late and does not join the assigned children s group in the morning after breakfast, you may make arrangements for your child to meet the group if it is on campus. Contact HAA staff at Phillips Brooks House, either in person or by phone (617-879-8885), for assistance and coordination with the appropriate children s group director. If your child s group is off campus, you must arrange your own drop-off at the location or wait until the group returns to campus. Please consult the Children s Program schedule to determine the location of your child s group. What if my child is nervous about participating? The Children s Program staff is composed mainly of Harvard students who are excited to meet your children and introduce them to Harvard. Along with the professional staff of the Harvard Alumni Association and World Sports Camp, the students will do everything they can to ensure your child is comfortable and enjoying their time at Harvard. However, children may opt out of any activity in which they do not feel comfortable participating. What do I do if my child wants to be reassigned to a different group to join his or her friends? Please notify HAA staff at reunion headquarters of this request, and they will do their best to accommodate you and your child. What if my child is only participating in the Day Program? A full schedule of activities is planned for children registered for the Day Program, which includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Parents must pick up children from dinner, promptly before it ends at 6:30 p.m. Parents arriving late for pickup after 6:30 p.m. will be reminded by phone to pick up their children and charged the Evening Program fee. 3
What if my child is only participating in the Evening Program? The Evening Program runs from 6:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. and includes fun activities, games, and performances for your children to enjoy. Programming for children ages 8 and younger takes place at the MAC gym; programming for children ages 9 and above takes place at the Hemenway gym. Note: On Saturday, the Evening Program starts at 5:00 p.m. for children at their respective dinner locations. What about Field Day on Saturday? Field Day is designed to be a fun family event. Children can participate in either the full program on Saturday or only the Field Day event taking place from 12 noon to 3 p.m. at the Radcliffe Quad. Please note that supervision will not be provided for Field Day for 25th Reunion children participating in the full Saturday day program. Parents in the 25th Reunion are responsible for picking up their children at group headquarters, accompanying them to Field Day activities, and returning them to headquarters when the event ends. The Field Day will feature fun-filled activities, including inflatable rides, Guitar Hero, Dance Dance Revolution, face painting, photo booths, games, and more. Shuttle buses will be available to take children and parents to the Quad and back to Harvard Yard throughout the afternoon. Please note that children will not travel with their groups to the Field Day, and parents will be responsible for supervision during this time. Shuttle buses will be available to take children and parents to the Quad and back to Harvard Yard throughout the afternoon. EVENING PROGRAM Headquarters: Hemenway and MAC Gyms THURSDAY, MAY 25 SATURDAY, MAY 27 EVENING PROGRAM SUPERVISION BEGINS 6:30 p.m. Children in the Rainbow and Grape Groups (Ages 3-5 and 6-8) will transition from dinner to the Evening Program headquarters in the MAC Gym. Children in the Red, Blue, Green and Young Adult Groups (Ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18) will transition from dinner to the evening program headquarters in the Hemenway Gym. Children in all groups will have the same staff members assigned to the groups for both the day and evening programs. Meals will not be provided as part of the Evening Program, but snacks will be provided to children between activities. Entertainment will be provided as part of the program each night, with group activities and quiet options for children. Mats will be provided for children who want to rest.
