Message from the President More Choices. Better Value. Unlimited Opportunities! These are solid reasons for growing student enrollments at South Central College. SCC continues to provide more choices for learning for the citizens of South Central Minnesota, as evidenced by the addition of our Civil Engineering Technology major that began in Fall, 00. This program is part of SCC s growing Center for Construction Technology, created this year and directed by many of our stakeholders who provide the vision for future programming to meet the changing needs of business. Liberal Arts & Sciences makes up over one-third of SCC s current student enrollments. South Central College has filled the new classrooms and laboratories, created through our 00 Bonding Request, and are proud of our first Associate in Arts degree students who graduated this spring. This year also marked new in-roads in international partnerships. SCC members visited Chiang Mai Vocational College in Thailand during October of 00, and students accompanied SCC administrators, faculty and staff to the CeBIT Technology Fair in Hannover, Germany, March 0-, 00. In addition, SCC hosted a group of five German students from the Carl Severing - Berufskolleg College, in Germany, during the month of October and hosted a Thailand delegation of faculty and administrators from April - May, 00. SCC continues to explore opportunities for student exchange and the opportunity to incorporate global learning into our curriculum. 00 was also a record-breaking year for scholarships! Over a quarter million dollars in scholarships were provided to deserving SCC students based on academic achievement and financial need. Thanks to our Foundations, and the individuals and businesses that support them, student scholarships have made a great value even better! Our administrative team is now complete. During this past year, we have had several people serve in interim appointments. I would like to extend my appreciation to these SCC members for their service to our college. In addition, a new Dean of Economic Development was added to our administrative team, to provide the vision for new entrepreneurial partnerships and occupational education. I believe that this addition shows SCC s deep commitment to projecting the workforce educational needs of our business and industry partners. I am proud to serve as President of Minnesota s newest comprehensive community and technical college!
