District 5770 Vo1ume 1 No. 1 From Governor Terry Terry Godfrey, District Governor Invite Others To Become Rotarians W ELCOME. I am hoping that the coming year will be a great one. It is a humbling and exciting opportunity for me to get to serve our district as District Governor in this coming year. Especially during the same year that Ron Burton is RI President. Ron has asked each of us to look within ourselves to see that spark of when and why we became a Rotarian. To share that spark; to reach out to others invite others to be a Rotarian. Ron has also asked us to expand outside our own neighborhoods, with international service projects. In this way we may Engage Rotary Change Lives. Many of us just returned from the International Convention in Lisbon Portugal. It was a wonderful trip. We all got to go onto the stage with Ron and Jetta Burton during to closing. It was a great honor and a humbling experience. As a District, 5770 was very well represented in Lisbon. It is also the 75 th anniversary of my home club Cyril. This year will also be the year that we first embrace Future Vision within our district. We have been busy preparing for the change and hope for a smooth transition. We are also seeing new and exciting things within RI through the RI Brand campaign, Rotary Showcase, and Rotary Central. It is my hope that each club will not only embrace Future Vision but also Rotary Central, and Rotary Showcase as a way to promote Rotary. I have started visiting each club, and hope to meet each of you in the next few weeks. Through the last several years I have met many of you at district events and seminars and truly look forward to visiting each club. As the year progress s I hope that each of you will make plans to attend the District Celebration of the Clubs in Medicine Park. It will be an adventure for the entire family. The planning committee has been, and is continuing to work hard toward making this a very fun time for everyone. This year our District 5770 also has an opportunity to be highlighted during the Rose Bowl Parade. Ron and Jetta Burton will be riding the Rotary Float during the parade. We have a committee formed to organize a trip out there to help build and decorate the float. If you are interested please contact me or watch for more information on the district web page and in coming newsletters. The combined Foundation/ Membership Seminar will include critical training on the Rotary Let The Club Visits Begin... Foundation including what we need to know about the many changes. On the membership side, we will be introducing an innovative and exciting membership initiative, said Membership Chair DGN Marilyn Geiger. We can join with Clubs and Districts all over North America to readily reverse the nationwide trend of membership losses. Each Club is asked to have four or more repres e n t a t i v e s attend the joint seminar. Ideally, these will include the Club President, Foundation chair, Membership chair and Treasurer. The cost is $20.00 per person, lunch included. However, as a reward, Clubs having four or more persons in actual attendance will be half price: that is four for $40.00. A registration form is included elsewhere in this newsletter. Payment may be in advance, at the door, or click here to register. www.rotary5770.com Cyril... 2012-13 Cyril Rotary President Shawn Freie and Secretary Greg Dakil present senior awards at the Cyril High School, including a $500 scholarship to the student of the year. Sign Up For Rotary Club Central Dear Governor Terry, I wanted to ask you as Governor of my favorite District to do something very special this year for me. I'd like for our District to be the first district in the Rotary world where all clubs signed up and used Rotary Club Central. It's a great tool that could have very positive impact on each one of our clubs. To the best of my knowledge no district is yet 100% but I'm sure it wil l be coming sooner rather than later. Let me know what you think? Jetta and I send our best to you and Connie. Ron Apache... Gov. Terry presents Apache President Lance Shenold with the RI Theme Banner for 2013-14.

Page 8 District 5770 ENGAGING ROTARY July 2013 Beginning The New Rotary Year - Some Things You Should Know F Club of OR THREE YEARS, 100 districts have been testing Future Vision, a pilot of The Rotary Foundation s new grant system, which was designed to increase Rotary s effectiveness during the next century of service. As the new Rotary year dawns, the future has begun. All districts begin using the simplified grant structure 1 July. Districts have already been completing the quali fication process and qualifying their clubs. A number of clubs and districts have begun preparing and submitting grant applications. There wil l be three types of grants: global, district, and packaged. You can learn about all three types, and get more details about the application process, on Rotary s grant microsite. Also on 1 July, new leaders will took office at the club, district, and international levels. Ron D. Burton, of the Rotary Club of Norman, Oklahoma, USA, became Rotary s 103rd president and encouraged Rotarians to Engage Rotary, Change Lives. Anne L. Matthews, a member of the Rotary Club of Columbia East, South Carolina, USA, became the first woman to serve as vice president. Matthews, a former director of South Carolina s Department of Education, is president of Matthews and Associates, an educational consulting firm. O t h e r c h a n g e s for 2013-14: R o - t a r i a n s will be a l l o w e d to form satellite clubs, whose members meet at a dif ferent time and location from their parent clubs. The change, approved by the Council on Legislation in April, is intended to make it easier for members to develop the core for a new club. Districts will be able to form an unli mited number of e-clubs. The Council removed a li mit of two e-clubs per district. The change is designed to bring in new members and appeal to young professionals, who may be less able to meet in person weekly. The name of Rotary s fifth Avenue of Service wil l change from New Generations Service to Youth Service. This change was also approved by the Council. In 2010, this avenue of service joined Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, and International Service. The dues Rotary clubs pay Rotary International will increase US$1 to $53 per member. A redesigned Rotary website will be launched in late summer.
