Pangilinan sent a message on behalf of the Asia-Pacific Support Centre expressing hope that young people will be inspired more to live out the values of Scouting.

WSC Chairman João Armando Gonçalves New Year message T he year 2017 promises to be an exciting year for WOSM with several important events coming up, such as the 2nd World Scout Education Congress (May, Switzerland), the 15th World Scout Moot (August, Iceland) and the two consecutive events in Azerbaijan (August, 13th World Scout Youth Forum and the 41st World Scout Conference). The new year also brings new leadership with Ahmad Alhendawi coming in as the next Secretary General of WOSM on 1 March. Everyone is looking forward to his arrival with great excitement. Over the next eight months, the World Scout Committee, with the support of our World Scout Bureau colleagues, will bring several important initiatives to closure, delivering what you have asked us to do during this Triennium. WORLD As we step into the new year, I hope that each of us can continue to be active in our roles and responsibilities in Scouting and in our society. Scouting needs us to continue to be engaged, aware of our Mission, and focused on contributing to the Vision we share: to be the leading educational youth movement in the world. Society requires us to be active citizens, peace builders, and leaders in creating a better world. On behalf of the World Scout Committee, I wish you, your Scouts and your families a joyful and meaningful new year. And we count on all of you for 2017 to be a fantastic year for Scouting. W NEW BSP records 649 World Scout Environment Programme awardees Five years after the Boy Scouts of the Philippines adopted the World Scout Environment Programme (WSEP), a total of 649 applications for the WSEP badge has been approved for 2016 alone. It offers tools and initiatives to help Scouts how their day-to-day actions can have positive impact on environment. Several programs, activities and trainings have been lined up for 2017 as BSP looks forward to hitting 5,000 awardees of the World Scout Environment Badge.
