The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2010. Purpose This qualification is designed to recognise the practical competence required of care givers working in the support of the older person sector. It shares some of the unit standards with, and can lead to the National Certificate in Diversional Therapy (Level 4) [Ref: 0727]. Holders of this qualification are able to give full support to and assist individuals to meet their physical needs, including individuals affected by dementia and those who are dying, and to deal with first aid situations. Those awarded this qualification will be able to communicate effectively with all their clients and be fully aware of the individuals rights and responsibilities. They will be able to ensure that the individuals environment meets all hygiene standards. This qualification contains a compulsory core section, supplemented by two specialist strands. The strands relate to the environment in which the qualification holder works in a residential care facility; or in a community setting, including an individual s home. Holders of this qualification are required to have gained credit for only one of these strands. This qualification is designed so that people can either gain it through an accredited training provider, or through a work-based training programme. Accredited training providers are expected to grain substantial evidence of competence from the workplace, or through work placements as defined in each unit standard. Replacement Information This qualification has been replaced by the National Certificate in Community Support Services (Residential) (Level 3) [Ref: 1391]. Special Notes This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Support of the Older Person (Level 1) with strands in Community and Residential [Ref: 0199].
