Welcome to the Alberta School of Business 2010/11 MBA Awards Ceremony and Dinner

AIMCo MBA Award in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Presented by Douglas Stratton Amir Tabet Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) Awarded annually to a student specializing in finance who is registered full-time in year one or year two of a MBA program at the Alberta School of Business and to a student specializing in finance who is registered full-time in year one or year two of a MBA program at the Haskayne School of Business in Calgary. The recipients will be selected on the basis of satisfactory academic merit.

Shirley Allard MBA Award in Technology Commercialization Presented by Mike Percy Megan Lee (Renewal) Carl (Guang) Pan Endowed by Cam Allard Awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement to a student entering the Technology Transfer stream of the MBA program.

T.E. (Edward) Bate and T.D. (Terry) Freeman Graduate Award in Business Presented by Terry and Kate Freeman Jordan Daniels Endowed by T.D. (Terry) Freeman, CA and Kate (Bate) Freeman Awarded annually to a student who is registered full-time in the MBA/MEng program. The recipient must hold an undergraduate degree in engineering and will be selected on the basis of satisfactory academic performance and leadership potential.

Bernard Greer Aylen Scholarship Presented by Mike Percy Luis Serpa The late Mrs Elizabeth Aylen Awarded to a student in the final year of an MBA program on the basis of academic merit (a grade point average of 3.5 or above), demonstrated strength in the two accounting core courses as well as strong leadership traits and character shown through participation in extra-curricular and community activities.

Business Alumni Association Graduate Scholarship in Business Presented by Chris Grey Lamont Bartlett Funded jointly by Gregory Bird ('80 MBA) and the University of Alberta Business Alumni Association and members Awarded annually to an outstanding student who is being newly admitted to the Master of Business Administration degree program. Awarded on the basis of academic merit; however, career experience and community participation may also be considered. The award is designed to encourage excellent students to enter the University of Alberta.

Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers Graduate Scholarship in Business Presented by Joseph Doucet Philip Martin Christopher Morrison Canadian Assocation of Petroleum Producers Awarded annually to two students enrolled full time in the second year of an MBA degree program in the Natural Resources and Energy Specialization. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic performance.

Canadian Business Leader Graduate Scholarship for Leadership Excellence Presented by Mike Percy Andrew Wong Individual and Corporate Supporters of the annual Canadian Business Leader Award Dinner Awarded annually to a student registered in the final year of a MBA program on the basis of strong leaderships traits and character shown through participation in extra-curricular and community activities as well as on the basis of academic merit. Part-time students are eligible for this award.

CEFE MBA Scholarship in Family Enterprise Presented by Lloyd Steier Hana Mouallem Alireza Talebi (Unable to attend) An Anonymous Donor Awarded annually to two outstanding students who are registered fulltime in the MBA program at the University of Alberta. A recipient will be selected on the basis of academic achievement (minimum grade point average equivalent to 3.5 on the University of Alberta grading scale) and will have completed or be enrolled in either SMO 628 Managing Family Enterprise or SMO 642 International Family Enterprise.

Cougar Tool MBA Award in Natural Resources, Energy and Environment Presented by Joseph Doucet Luis Serpa Cougar Tool Awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic achievement entering the first or second year of full-time study in the Natural Resources, Energy and Environment specialization MBA program at the Alberta School of Business. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in the oil and gas industry. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and a letter of application identifying career aspirations after graduation.

Jim Dixon Public Management Graduate Scholarship Presented by Pat Dixon Michael Chong Dennis Theobald (Renewal) Alberta School of Business in honour of Jim Dixon whose career with the Government of Alberta s public service spanned more than thirty years including twenty five as Public Service Commissioner Awarded annually to a part-time student entering the Alberta MBA Public Management Stream who offers the greatest potential to succeed in the program and to be a leader in public service management. This promise will be evidenced by the student s excellence in academic achievement and career progress.

Dale Dowell Memorial MBA Scholarship Presented by Peggy Dowell, Christy Prowse, Rick Dowell and Greg Dowell Nicholas Lilley The Dowell Family Awarded annually to a student with superior academic standing (GPA of 3.5 or greater on a course load of 30 credits) who is entering the second year of full-time study in a Master of Business Administration degree program in the Alberta School of Business. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence. As well, applicants will be evaluated on their involvement in the promotion or representation of the Alberta School of Business such as, but not limited to, Student Council, case competitions, NET Impact and other associated activities. Preference will be given to applicants who have come from an education or teaching background.

Enbridge MBA Award in Business Presented by Marjorie Lewis Cheryl Jacobs Endowed by Enbridge Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time in the first year of the MBA Program with a specialization in Natural Resources and Energy. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

Encana MBA Scholarship Presented by Joseph Doucet Mark Bensted Jessica Kennedy Encana Corporation Awarded annually to a student or students registered full-time in the second year of the Natural Resources and Energy specialization of the MBA program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of superior academic standing (equivalent to a grade point average of 3.5 or greater on the University of Alberta grading scale).

EPCOR MBA Award in Business Presented by Joseph Doucet Ajit Sandilya Endowed by EPCOR Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time in the first year of the MBA Program with a specialization in Natural Resources and Energy. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

Executive Education Graduate Scholarship Presented by Carolyn Campbell Jadon Frank Executive Education, Alberta School of Business Awarded annually to the graduating student who has achieved superior academic standing in the Alberta School of Business MBA Program. Preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated interest in the area of leadership in the community.

Karl Funke Graduate Scholarship in International Business Presented by Mike Percy Elena Babin Steven Enns (Unable to attend) Endowed by Karl H Funke, MBA Awarded annually to students registered in the second year of the MBA program who are specializing in international business. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit (minimum grade point average equivalent to 3.5 at the University of Alberta) and international vision and outlook. Part-time students are eligible to hold the scholarship.

Sidney Hanson Graduate Scholarship in International Business Presented by Mike Percy Tricia Waddell Endowed by The Sidney Hanson Family Legacy Fund supported by family and friends of Sidney Hanson, MBA Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time or part-time in the second year of the MBA degree program who has shown an interest or has a background in entrepreneurship and would like to study abroad. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit (grade point average of 3.5 or greater).

Dick Johnston Memorial Graduate Scholarship in International Business Roman Doshchak (Unable to attend) Endowed by Family and friends of Dick Johnston, BA, MBA, FCA Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time in the second year of the MBA degree program who is taking part in a double degree or exchange program with one of the University of Alberta School of Business partner universities.

Labatt's MBA Fellow Award Presented by Mike Percy Jordan Daniels John Labatt Limited Awarded annually to a student entering the second year of the MBA program on the basis of high academic achievement and other contributions exhibited by the student during the first year of the MBA program. The award carries with it the distinction of the title "Labatt's Fellow.

James Lam Graduate Award in Not-for-Profit Management Presented by Mike Percy Sarah Davis James Lam Awarded annually to a student with satisfactory academic achievement entering the first or second year of full-time study in a MBA program at the Alberta School of Business. Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in the not-for-profit sector. The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic standing and a one-page summary outlining the applicant s current involvement and or future career intentions in the not-for-profit sector.

Michael Lang MBA Award in Business (For Any Specialization) Presented by Mike Percy Loren Miller Michael Lang ( 81 MBA) Awarded annually to a student enrolled full time in the first year of the MBA degree program in any specialization. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

Michael Lang MBA Award in Business (Technology Commercialization) Presented by Mike Percy Audrey Kim Michael Lang ( 81 MBA) Awarded annually to a student enrolled full time in the first year of the MBA degree program in Technology Commercialization. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

Michael Lang Youth and Leadership MBA Award in Business Presented by Mike Percy Michael Kickham Michael Lang ( 81 MBA) Awarded annually to a student registered full time in the first year of the MBA in the University of Alberta School of Business. The recipient, who is in the very early stage of his/her career, will be selected on the basis of satisfactory academic achievement, leadership potential and involvement in community activities.

Doreen M Lougheed ( 49 BCom) MBA Scholarship Presented by Dianne Lougheed-Keefe Marissa Warshawski Endowed by Donald D and Doreen M Lougheed Awarded annually to an outstanding female student, who is a Canadian citizen and an Alberta resident, registered full-time in the first or second year of the MBA program. Awarded on the basis of academic achievement.

Right Honourable Don Mazankowski MBA Award in International Business Presented by Mike Percy Hana Mouallem Callan Bond (Unable to attend) The Don Mazankowski Scholarship Foundation and the School of Business Awarded annually to one student enrolled full-time in the second year of the international business specialization in the MBA program and to one student enrolled in the part-time program of the international business specialization (regardless of year). Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

MBA/MEng Scholarship in Leadership Presented by Mike Percy Ahmed Mubashir Anonymous Donors Awarded annually to a student registered in the final year of the MBA/MEng joint degree program. The recipient will be selected on the basis of superior academic performance (grade point average of 3.5 or greater). Leadership highlighted through involvement and participation in university or community organizations will also be considered.

William S McGregor MBA Award in Business Presented by Mike Percy Pascal Bisson Endowed by The late William S McGregor Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time in the second year of a MBA degree program in the Technology Transfer and Commercialization Specialization. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of academic performance.

William S McGregor Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence Presented by Mike Percy Pascal Bisson Endowed by The late William S McGregor Awarded to a full-time student in the MBA program who exemplifies exceptional entrepreneurial achievements within the bounds of the Faculty of Business or outside the Faculty while enrolled in the MBA program.

Rolf Mirus Graduate Scholarship in International Business Presented by Rolf Mirus Rustam Toor Endowed by Family, friends and colleagues of Dr Rolf Mirus Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time or part-time in the first or second year of the MBA degree program who is taking the international business specialization. Recipients will be selected on the basis of superior academic performance (minimum grade point average of 3.5).

Dr Amit Monga MBA Scholarship in Capital Markets Amit Monga in attendance Rafique Daruwalla (Unable to attend) Drs Suneeta and Amit Monga Awarded annually to a student registered in the final year of the MBA degree program in the Finance specialization. The recipient will be selected on the basis of superior academic performance (grade point average of 3.5 or greater), and demonstrated excellence in the two finance core courses. Leadership highlighted through various initiatives and activities in the areas of capital and financial markets will also be considered.

Dr Amit Monga MBA Scholarship in Venture Capital Presented by Amit Monga Ryan Krawchuk Drs Suneeta and Amit Monga Awarded annually to a student registered in the final year of the MBA degree program in the Finance specialization. The recipient will be selected on the basis of superior academic performance (grade point average of 3.5 or greater), and demonstrated excellence in the two finance core courses. Leadership highlighted through various initiatives and activities in the areas of venture capital and private equity will also be considered.

Milt Pahl MBA Scholarship Hoa Quach (Unable to attend) Endowed by Mr Milt Pahl from contributions made towards his career as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta Awarded annually to a Canadian citizen who has completed the first year of the MBA program and whose academic standing is in the top half of the class. Selection will be based on community or business leadership potential, and evidence of community contribution and/or achievement. Preference will be given to Alberta residents.

Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship (Master's) Presented by Joan White Alesya Bajoria Lamont Bartlett Greg Nakatsui Elenor Siebring Amir Tabet Paul Sinclair (Unable to attend) The Government of the Province of Alberta Awarded to students entering into, or continuing in a full-time master's program. Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents at the date of application. All fields are eligible for funding.

Marcel Sale Memorial MBA Natural Resources and Energy Graduate Scholarship Xiaohuan Zhang (Unable to attend) Department of Energy, Alberta Government, in memory of Marcel Sale to recognize his important and long-standing contribution over the years to the Government of Alberta s Department of Energy. Awarded annually to a student enrolled full time in the Natural Resources and Energy specialization on the first year of the MBA degree program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic performance, work experience prior to entering the program, and GMAT scores.

Rodney E Schneck Prize in Organizational Analysis Presented by Rodney Schneck Christie Schultz Friends, colleagues, and associates of Rodney Schneck upon his retirement as Dean of the Faculty of Business in 1997 Awarded annually to a full-time student, with superior academic achievement, who is entering the second year of the MBA program in the Faculty of Business, and who is working in Organizational Studies, Strategy and Policy, or Human Resource Management. Applicants also will be considered on the basis of leadership qualities demonstrated through involvement in extracurricular and community activities.

ScotiaMcLeod Scholarship Presented by Mike Percy Shraddha Brahmbhatt Endowed by ScotiaMcLeod Awarded annually to a student of outstanding merit entering or already in the MBA program.

Guy Turcotte MBA Award of Excellence Presented by Mike Percy Walter Jull Alberta School of Business in honour of Guy Turcotte, Chair of the School of Business Advisory Council Awarded to a student enrolled in the second year of the MBA Program who best demonstrates excellence in academic achievement and extracurricular activities. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic excellence and community involvement; participation in student association activities will also be considered.

Tye Graduate Scholarship in Corporate Governance Presented by Mike Percy Matthew Wright Bill Tye (1954 BCom) and June Tye (1948 BSc) Awarded annually to a student enrolled full-time or part-time in the final year of the MBA degree program. Recipients will be selected on the basis of outstanding academic performance, a grade point average of 3.5 or greater, and demonstrated interest in the field of corporate governance. The recipient will have demonstrated a keen interest in corporate governance and its relationship to shareholders and society with particular emphasis on corporate ethics and accountability.

Tye Graduate Scholarship in Economics Presented by Mike Percy Christopher Van Tighem Bill Tye (1954 BCom) and June Tye (1948 BSc) Awarded to a student in the final year of an MBA program on the basis of academic merit, demonstrated strength in the two economics core courses, a strong interest in Canadian ecological issues, as well as the leadership traits and character shown through participation in campus extra curricular activities.

Paul Wacko MBA Award in Natural Resources and Energy Presented by John Campbell Mark Bensted (Renewal) Shraddha Brahmbhatt (Renewal) Mei Huang Diane Murphy Endowed by Friends, colleagues, and business associates of the late Paul Wacko of Inland Group Awarded on the basis of outstanding academic achievement combined with significant community involvement to a student enrolled in the Natural Resources and Energy stream of the MBA program.

Claude Winspear MBA Award Presented by Mike Percy Ryan Young Endowed by The Estate of Claude Winspear through the Winspear Foundation Awarded annually to outstanding student(s) who are registered fulltime in an MBA program at the University of Alberta. Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership through involvement and participation in university or community organizations, sports or cultural activities, and academic standing. Previous scholastic achievement is one factor to be considered, but not necessarily the determining factor, when making an award. Preference will be given to students newly admitted to the MBA program and who satisfy any one of the three criteria.
