Bursaries, Scholarships, Awards and Programs Applying for scholarships and bursaries can take time and effort but it can really pay of!!!! There are many sources of scholarships and bursaries. Students are asked to create an account on one or both of the following websites to do a scholarship/bursary search. www.scholarshipscanada.com www.studentawards.com Where to go to Learn More: Students should visit the college and university websites. All colleges and universities offer their own scholarships and bursaries. Go to www.electronicinfo.ca to find university information. Go to www.ontariocolleges.ca to find college information. Below is a list a scholarships and bursaries available to students from external sources. Students apply for these funds on their own, independent of their high school or postsecondary school. This is NOT an exhaustive list, but rather an overview of what is available for students. All graduating students should pick up the monthly scholarship report from the guidance office which lists some of the more popular external awards. Burger King Scholars Program http://www.bkmclamorefoundation.org/whatwedo/scholarsprogram

Program focuses on providing $1000 scholarship awards to assist students who excel academically while also working part-time and being actively involved in their community. Program also includes Burger King Employee Scholarship awards.we provide $1,000 scholarships awards to eligible restaurant team members. Additionally, the top Burger King Employee Scholarship applicants will be eligible to receive a James W. McLamore Outstanding Scholar award in the amount of $5,000. The application period for the 2018-2019 school year begins on Oct. 15, 2017 and closes Dec. 15, 2017. The Canadian Hospitality Foundation Scholarships www.thechf.ca Scholarships are available for students pursuing university or college programs in tourism, hotel, and hospitality. The Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation - Loran Award www.loranaward.ca Loran Awards are awarded to talented young Canadians on the basis of character, service and leadership potential. A Loran Award includes four years of funding for undergraduate studies and a comprehensive enrichment program. Present a minimum cumulative average of 85%. Applicants may apply to one of two pools: The sponsored pool, for applicants sponsored by their schools The direct pool, for applicants who are not sponsored by their schools. CIBC's Youthvision Scholarship Program http://www.cibc.com/ca/inside-cibc/community-matters/youthvision/youthvisionscholarship.html The CIBC Youthvision Scholarship Program Selection Committee selects 30 recipients each year. Each applicant is evaluated based on academic transcripts and input provided by a mentor, Big Brother or Big Sister, and a caseworker or YMCA youth worker. The Selection Committee also considers a candidate s involvement in extracurricular activities at home, at school and in the community, and their future aspirations. Universities Canada administers this program on behalf of CIBC. Horatio Alger Canadian Scholarship Program https://www.horatioalger.ca/en/scholarships/

If integrity, determination and courage describe you-you have what it takes to be a Horatio Alger Scholar. This scholarship rewards students who possess the character to overcome adversity and succeed in life. To be considered you must demonstrate financial need (net income of $55,000 per family or less), be involved in school and community, display integrity and perseverance, maintain a minimum of 65%. Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation Scholarship and Citizenship Award www.futureaces.org To students who exhibit exemplary citizenship qualities and who are in need of financial assistance to further their educational goals.the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation s National Citizenship Award and Scholarship Program provides meritbased scholarships to secondary students across Canada who exhibit exemplary citizenship qualities in their communities through extensive community service, volunteerism and humanitarian causes. Holmes on Homes http://makeitright.ca/holmes_foundation/ The Bursaries and Scholarships are designed to assist students who need financial assistance to obtain training for a career in residential construction or renovation and designed to encourage students who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence in residential renovation or construction to complete their academic training. The June Callwood Outstanding Achievement Award for Volunteerism www.ontario.ca/honoursandawards Recognizes individuals and groups that have made an exceptional contribution to volunteerism in Ontario. Lieutenant Governor's Community Volunteer Awards for Students http://www.citizenship.gov.on.ca/english/citizenship/honours/lg_cva.shtml This award is given to a graduating student from each of Ontario s secondary schools. The Lieutenant Governor s Community Volunteer Award for Students honours those who not only complete the number of volunteer hours required to graduate, but who go above and beyond. Lincoln M. Alexander Award http://www.citizenship.gov.on.ca For full-time students who attend senior high school or who will be going to into a p/s education program can be nominated by their schools. This scholarship recognizes

young people who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in eliminating racial discrimination. The Monsanto Canada Opportunity Scholarship Program www.monsanto.ca The Monsanto Fund Opportunity Scholarship Program is available to Canadian high school students who are enrolled in their final year of high school as of June 15, 2017 and eligible to graduate from high school in 2017. Those eligible for a scholarship must be planning to enroll at a Canadian post secondary institution (degree or diploma) in a first-year agriculture, food science or culinary program. Nelson Education www.nelson.com/scholarship Nelson Education is offering a $5,000 scholarship to a student who has a 75% or more average and is making a difference in the community. Recipients will be selected based on their civic leadership, grades, and other factors including, without limitation, community involvement (such as extracurricular activities or part-time work and special circumstances) as demonstrated in their Application. Ontario Hockey Federation Bursary Program http://www.ohf.on.ca/programs/bursary-program The program provides financial assistance to registered OHF participants to offset the cost of p/s education. To be eligible to receive a bursary, a candidate must meet the following criteria: Be registered for three (3) years within the OHF in any capacity (player, trainer, coach, official) Be registered with the OHF during his/her application season Be a registrant in good standing with the OHF Enrolling in post-secondary full-time studies in Canada for the first time The Ontario Hostelry Institute Scholarships and Awards http://www.theohi.ca/scholarships/studentscholarships.aspx Applications are judged on work experience, extracurricular activities, academic record, and letters of recommendation. Ontario Knights of Columbus Bursary Program www.ontariokofc.ca Must be a son or daughter of a member of the Knights of Columbus OR Must be the son or daughter of a deceased member in good standing at the time of his death. Ontario Parks Association Foundation Bursary and Scholarship Program

www.opassoc.on.ca A total of five bursaries and scholarships, worth $2,500.00 each, are awarded to qualified post-secondary students who complete the requirements of application and who are studying in a related field. Applicants apply in during their FIRST year of post secondary in a related field. The following rules govern consideration for applications: Applicants must be enrolled in a recognized Ontario educational institution in a parks, related horticulture or landscaping, conservation, or environmental resource management field. (Note the Len Stanley "King of Kew" Scholarship is open to U.S. and Canadian students.) Applications are only available to students who are in the process of completing their first year of studies in a recognized University or College in Ontario. Awards to successful applicants will be granted with confirmation of enrollment and continuation of study in second year. Bursaries and Scholarships will be granted on merit, which will be evaluated by the Selection Committee on criteria submitted in the application package. Bursaries and Scholarships are limited to one per successful applicant. Ontario Teachers Insurance Plan Bursary www.otip.com Your parent, grandparent or legal guardian must be insured through an individual or group policy of an insurance plan or program provided by OTIP. Services Association of Canada Scholarships and Grants www.psac.ca The intent is to provide financial assistance to individual students planning on pursuing post-secondary education and to schools looking to enhance studies in math, science and technology. Your PSAC membership includes a scholarship opportunity for children of your employees who are planning to pursue post-secondary education in the next 12 months. Through the PSAC Education Fund, the Association is pleased to announce its scholarship program for 2016 whereby five $1,500 scholarships will be awarded to PSAC Retail as a Career Scholarship Program www.retaileducation.ca To be considered for one of the scholarships applicants must meet the following criteria: Enrolled full-time or part-time at a Canadian college or university Pursuing a retail, business or marketing-related program Currently working part-time or full-time within the retail industry Royal Bank Financial Lifeskills Scholarship www.rbcroyalbank.com/lifeskills

Silver Spring Farm Scholarship Award www.ocapdd.on.ca The award provides two $1000 scholarships each academic year, to assist individuals in their pursuit of a career in the developmental services. Application Process Applications will be considered from students pursuing a degree or diploma in the field of social sciences or human services, at any of the following six educational institutions in Eastern Ontario: 1. Algonquin College 2. Carleton University 3. La Cité collégiale 4. University of Ottawa 5. Saint Paul University 6. St. Lawrence College The successful recipients will be selected based upon a written application. All applicants will be requested to provide information on the following areas: 1. Volunteer experience 2. Academic performance 3. A personal commentary with respect to the reason for their career selection 4. Two written & signed references T.D. Canada Trust Scholarship for Community Leadership http://www.tdcanadatrust.com/scholarship This scholarship rewards students who have shown leadership in many areas including environmental cleanup, the promotion of social justice, and the fight against child poverty. Must obtain a minimum overall average in their most recently completed full year of school of 75%. Applications usually due in November for the following school year. Successful applicants receive up to $75,000 in funding along with summer job opportunities through TD. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program

Wendy's Classic Achiever Scholarship www.wendysclassicachiever.ca Canadian high school students like you who excel in academics, extracurricular activities and community service. And to encourage you to keep up the good work as you advance to college or university. Workers' Health and Safety Centre Post Secondary Scholarship Initiative https://www.whsc.on.ca/resources/for-young-workers/scholarship-bursaries Seeks to raise awareness among students about the unacceptable and preventable working conditions responsible for worker suffering and death. Wellington County Scholarships and Bursaries http://www.wellington.ca/en/residentservices/scholarshipsandbursaries.asp PROCEDURES: The following criteria will apply for the County Bursary/Scholarship Programme: 1. The applicant must be a resident within Wellington County. 2. The applicant must be pursuing studies at a post secondary level. 3. The applicant must have a proven record of involvement in the community. 4. Applicants applying for a scholarship must have an overall average of 75% upon graduation. 5. Applicants applying for a bursary must clearly demonstrate in writing financial need. 6. Successful applicants will be required to forward their Social Insurance Number to Wellington County to receive award. Wellington North Community Scholarships and Bursaries The community of Wellington North also generously supports many scholarships to which students may apply. Please note that applications are due in the office in early June.
