LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION BOOKLET FOR KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2014 Attached is a list of local scholarships available to graduates of Kennebunk High School. The large majority of scholarships within this booklet require the KHS Common Application which is available in the guidance office and on the KHS website http://www.rsu21.net/khsguidance under Scholarships. Scholarships which require special applications are only available through the guidance office during school hours (7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m). Please note that Guidance office hours during April vacation are limited; please call 985-1114 before you plan to arrive. Applications are due in the Guidance Office NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, APRIL 29, 2014 (One day after you return from April Vacation.) Please note: Applications received after April 29 will be marked late and may not be considered.) The names of the recipients of these scholarships will be announced at Class Night on Friday, June 13. All scholarships advertised in this booklet are to be used for the school year following the recipient s graduation date unless otherwise noted or pre-arranged with the sponsor. Other scholarships from a variety of colleges, businesses, and organizations can be found in the Senior Memos on the KHS website (http://www.rsu21.net/khsguidance) in the Guidance Section under Senior Info.

AS YOU APPLY FOR THESE SCHOLARSHIPS WE RECOMMEND YOU DO YOUR BEST TO: 1. Read each scholarship description and application carefully. Some may require that you have recommendations which you will want to ask people as soon as possible in order to give them adequate time to write a recommendation specific to the scholarship criteria. 2. Fill out applications NEATLY (The KHS Common Application may be accessed through the high school website and applicants can type in their information verses filling it out by hand). 3. Complete applications ACCURATELY and as COMPLETE as possible. (If you are unable to complete a section of an application please do not leave it blank, we ask that you provide a short explanation why you are not able to complete that specific portion of the application.) Also, please make sure you have included all the various attachments sponsors require such as essays, recommendations and/or transcripts. Sponsors cannot fairly consider your application unless it is complete and your application may be disqualified for being incomplete. 4. If you are required to interview for a scholarship, arrive on time and dressed nicely. PLEASE TAKE THESE RECOMMENDATIONS SERIOUSLY AS THEY ARE A RESULT OF COMMENTS WE HAVE RECEIVED FROM THE SCHOLARSHIP SPONSORS. FOLLOWING THESE GUIDELINES MAY MAKE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RECEIVING A SCHOLARSHIP OR NOT! KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL 2014 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIPS ALBERT W. MESERVE SCHOLARSHIP $580 This scholarship is established in memory of Albert W. Meserve who began his teaching career at the Park Street School in Kennebunk, where he taught grades 6, 5 and 4. He then served as Principal at Cousens School in Kennebunk, retiring in 1989. This scholarship seeks to support students who are pursuing a career in education. Each applicant is asked to submit a KHS Common Application along with a personal statement on why he or she aspires to become an educator. Sponsor may require an interview as part of the selection process. Payment of the scholarship will be made directly to the college after successful completion of Semester 1. ArenaTilton SCHOLARSHIP $2,000 The ArenaTilton, Inc. scholarship will be awarded to a graduating student-athlete pursuing a four-year degree. Applicants must submit an essay detailing a time in their life when they faced a significant battle, and how they persevered through it. Applicants are encouraged to visit www.arenatilton.org for more information on the history of the organization and its mission to inspire the world to battle through life s challenges. Essays will be reviewed by an ArenaTilton committee of Kennebunk High School alumni. ARUNDEL MASONIC LODGE #76 AF & AM SCHOLARSHIP $4,000 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application.) Any person is eligible for this program if they are pursuing and have not yet received an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree, is a resident of the Town of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport, Arundel or affiliated with a member of Arundel Lodge #76, and planning to attend a post-secondary school, be it trade school, college or any other type of school recognized by the committee. Family Masonic affiliation is not a requirement for consideration to receive the scholarship. A letter from the sponsor with instructions regarding payment of scholarship will be sent to the recipients by the Arundel Lodge #76. Scholarships not used during the academic year in which given will lapse. Selection of the recipient will be made by the organization. THE BANK OF MAINE SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This scholarship is in support of any graduating senior who is pursuing post-secondary education at a two or four year institution. Recipients will be chosen by the KHS Scholarship Committee based on the following criteria, with no particular weighting: financial need, good scholastic standing, leadership, character, school citizenship and potential for success. Applicants should not be a relative of an employee of The Bank of Maine. This scholarship is available for the second semester freshman year.

BIDDEFORD SAVINGS BANK SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 1 st preference will be given to applicants planning to major in business or finance, attending a 2 or 4-year school in Maine and demonstrating financial need. If no applicant fits this criteria other applicants will be considered. Payment of scholarship will be for successful completion of first semester of freshman year. Selection of the recipient will be made by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. BOOTH CHICK SCHOLARSHIP/Arundel Masonic Lodge #76 $1,500 Established by his friends and administered by the Masonic Charitable Foundation of the Grand Lodge of Maine, the C. Booth Chick Scholarship Fund was designed to financially assist in the education of graduates of KHS of good moral character who are either going to Maine Maritime Academy or attending one of the technical colleges pursuing a course of study in boat building, marine resources or the building trades. The KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee will nominate 5 applicants with final decision made by the sponsor and family. Payment will be made by the sponsor at the beginning of the second semester and sent directly to the institution where the recipients are enrolled. CATHERINE J. DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This scholarship is newly established in loving memory of Catherine (Cathy) Davis a Kennebunk High School staff member who touched and made a difference in so many students lives. This scholarship will recognize a vocational student who demonstrates an eagerness to learn and to continue on to a higher educational program. Payment will be made by the sponsor at the beginning of the second semester and sent directly to the institution where the recipient is enrolled. CHARLES M. NEDEAU SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is in memory of Charles M. Nedeau, past chief of the Kennebunkport Village Fire Department. This will be given to a needy Kennebunkport student who will be furthering his/her education through a vocational training program. Selection of the recipient will be made by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee with final approval by the sponsor. This scholarship will be awarded for second semester of the next school year. CHRISTOPHER J. HUSSEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This scholarship is in memory of Christopher J. Hussey, KHS Class of 1980, who went on to study at Notre Dame as a NROTC scholar. This scholarship is to be awarded to a KHS senior who is matriculating to the University of Notre Dame, or enrolling in a NROTC program at a College/University, or matriculating to a four year Catholic College/University. The recipient will be considered of high moral character and demonstrate active faith involvements. The recipient will be selected by the KHS Scholarship Committee. This scholarship will be disbursed directly to the college for the first semester.

COMMUNITY HARVEST SCHOLARSHIP 2 @ $500 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application.) Applicants must be able to show an outstanding record of Community Service, be in good standing with the school community, and accepted in a program to further his/her education. Payment of $500 to be made at the start of second term of first and second year of continuing education. Selection to be made by sponsor. DONALD & THERESA WENTWORTH SCHOLARSHIP(S) $33,000 To be awarded to all around good students with financial need. Applicants need not be ranked at the top of their class, anyone with the right attitude and desire to learn qualifies. Students must be pursuing a Bachelor s Degree at an accredited college or university in the state of Maine. This scholarship may be given to one student or disbursed among many with no one scholarship valued at any less than $2,500. Final selection of the recipient(s) to be determined by the principal. ESTHER B. CARD SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application) Applicants must be planning to enroll in an institution of higher learning (including art, music, drama, technical and trade schools). This scholarship honors Mrs. Card s lifetime of leadership and her service, and to the pursuit of learning. The scholarship will be awarded to a KHS senior who exemplified those qualities and has made significant contributions to their classmates and community in one of the following areas: 1. Supporting chem-free choices 2. Promoting teen/adult dialogue 3. Building personal assets 4. Fostering a principle-based community. A check will be issued directly to the school following successful completion of the first semester. FRENCH CLUB SCHOLARSHIP The French Club is offering a scholarship to a graduating senior who has taken French for four years, has been accepted at a college and is planning to continue taking French during his/her first year of college. The recipient will be selected by the French Club. The Sponsor will make payment for second semester of freshman year. GAIL LINCOLN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP presented by the ART GUILD OF THE KENNEBUNKS $600 A check will be awarded Class Night to a graduating Kennebunk High School senior of artistic integrity and creativity to be used to further his/her artistic education or to be expended for supplies used by the individual in his/her artistic discipline. The Art Dept will select the recipient. GARRETT PILLSBURY PLUMBING & HEATING SCHOLARSHIP $2,000 ($500 per year for four years) This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating KHS senior who is a resident of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport or Arundel. The applicant must pursue post graduate education in the fields of engineering or construction related trade. Applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their financial need, leadership potential, initiative and proven track record of volunteer work. Selection of the recipient will be made by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee.

GORDON ROBINSON MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP $2,000 A $2,000 annual scholarship to be awarded to a KHS graduating senior with an average or above average standing and who has been accepted in an art program at a two or four year institution of higher learning. Other criteria to be taken into consideration in the selection of the recipient will be financial need, good moral character, and involvement in sports. The selection of the recipient will be made by the sponsor and payment will be made for the first semester of freshman year. JAMES N. DROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 Awarded to a graduating KHS senior pursuing post-secondary education in the area of the performing arts. The recipient should be planning to major in: 1 st preference -music, 2 nd choice - performing arts or teaching performing arts. KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee will nominate 3 or 4 applicants with final decision made by sponsor. A check will be awarded to recipient at Class Night. JANE NELSON BERDEEN SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This Scholarship will be awarded to one deserving student who plans to enroll in post secondary education. Applicant should demonstrate school involvement and financial need. Applicant must complete the KHS Common application and supplemental information form and submit an academic transcript and essay describing how they feel they exhibit some of Jane s qualities as described in the supplemental application. Candidates will be required to take part in an interview process. Payment will be made directly to the student after successful completion of Semester 1. JARED BERUBE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is intended for a student pursuing an engineering degree at a four-year college or university. Student applicants must demonstrate financial need, be of good moral character and be actively involved in sports. Candidates should also display honesty, compassion, respect and responsibility. The KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee will nominate 5 applicants with the final decision being made by Jared s family. JESSICA ANN WHEELER (JESSI S GIFT) MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 Applicants must be pursuing post-secondary education in the Medical Field, (Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Special Education or Psychology). Selection of the recipient will be made by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. A check will be presented to the recipient at Class Night. JOANNE WRBA MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 The Joanne Wrba Memorial Nursing Scholarship honors a special woman, Joanne Wrba. The scholarship was created in her memory in 2003 to help high school seniors going into an accredited nursing program. Joanne Wrba touched many lives through her compassionate warm manner and her profession as a Registered Nurse. Joanne worked at SMMC Visiting Nurses and died, much too young at the age of 51, after a heroic battle against cancer. She is greatly missed by her family, her friends and her co-workers. The recipient of this scholarship will be determined by the KHS Scholarship Committee.

JOSEPH T. AND MARION E. COLE SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This scholarship is to be awarded to any college bound student with need and planning to attend a two or four year school. The KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee will nominate 3 or 4 applicants with the final decision made by the sponsor. Payment to be made by sponsor for the second semester of freshman year. KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL FACULTY SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship established by the Class of 1998 will recognize a student who is continuing his/her education. Each applicant must submit a word-processed essay of 300-500 words detailing his/her contributions to Kennebunk High School. In the essay special attention should be given to evidence of substantial service to the school community: service to the class, service to school clubs and organizations, and positive relationships with peers and faculty. Applicants may attach a resume in addition to the essay. The KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee will determine the recipient. The scholarship will be paid directly to the post secondary institution at the beginning of the second semester of freshman year. KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 To be awarded to a senior(s) who has been a part of the Industrial Technology Program (Drafting, Exploration of Technology or Woodcraft) at KHS and is planning to pursue post-secondary education. The Industrial Education Instructors will determine selection of the recipient(s). The scholarship will be paid directly to the post secondary institution after successful completion of first semester. KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This newly established scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior attending a post secondary institution. Preference will be given to a student who has shown commitment to the KHS Student Council as well as demonstrated leadership and involvement in student led organizations at KHS. The KHS Scholarship Committee will select four to six finalists with the final decision being made by a committee of Student Council representatives. A check will be presented to the recipient at Class Night. KENNEBUNK HIGH SCHOOL VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS BOOSTERS SCHOLARSHIP 2 @ $1,000 This scholarship is for students who have participated in at least 3 years of visual and performing arts classes and/or activities either at KHS or outside RSU 21. Applicants should have post-secondary school plans to major or minor in the visual and performing arts, and have demonstrated strong academic performance and a history of good citizenship while attending KHS. Applicants are required to submit an essay explaining how their participation in the visual and performing arts has enriched their educational experience at KHS and how they plan to incorporate the visual and performing arts in their college curriculum.

KENNEBUNK LOWER VILLAGE MOTHERS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP A scholarship will be awarded to a deserving senior who plans to continue training beyond high school level. The ability to carry on the proposed program of study, character and financial need will be considered in making this award. Strong consideration will be given to applicants who reside in the Lower Village area. Selection will be made by the Principal and by a committee from the Lower Village Mothers Club. Payment will be made after the successful completion of first semester of freshman year. (The college must apply for payment before April) KENNEBUNK PORTSIDE ROTARY SERVICE ABOVE SELF SCHOLARSHIP $500 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application.) This scholarship strives to recognize KHS graduating high school seniors who have made major contributions to their community through volunteer service. To be eligible for these scholarships applicants must provide documentation of a minimum of 100 hours of service during their four years of high school. Documentation must include paperwork signed by a supervisor outlining number of volunteer hours and explain service provided. Applicant must also provide a 200-300 word essay on the meaning and significance of their service. Service, which qualifies an applicant, includes work with school and community-based service-learning projects, community organizations, and faith based organizations that are not proselytizing or religious instruction. Service that does not qualify includes service limited only to in-school service projects, paid or stipend service, fundraising that does not directly benefit a non profit organization, lobbying, conducting worship services and efforts directed to serve only a family member. The Portside Rotary Club will make selection of the recipient. A check will be made payable jointly to the student and the college of their choice. KENNEBUNK ROTARY SCHOLARSHIPS $13,000 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application.) The Kennebunk Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc. will award scholarships to graduating seniors from Kennebunk High School who are residents of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel for the purpose of providing financial assistance to the recipients for postsecondary education. There will be three $500 scholarships awarded to students going to an accredited certificate, trade or technical program; four $1,000 scholarships awarded to students attending an accredited community college or pursuing an Associate degree at an accredited two or four year college or university; and five $1,500 scholarships awarded to students going to a four year accredited college or university. The scholarship selection committee will consider community service, financial need, leadership potential, educational goals and initiative. Applicants are required to submit a recommendation of a guidance counselor, teacher/administrator, or employer; a copy of any financial aid awards received to date and either a college essay or a brief personal statement. Applicants may be required to interview with the Kennebunk Rotary Scholarship Committee. Special consideration will be given to those with the greatest financial need. Children and relatives of members of the Kennebunk Rotary Club and the Kennebunk Rotary Scholarship Fund, Inc. shall not be eligible for these scholarships.

KENNEBUNK SAVINGS BANK FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 A scholarship will be awarded to a student who plans to attend a vocational school, business school or four-year college. The recipient will be selected by the Principal and Guidance Counselors. A check will be presented to the recipient at Class Night. KENNEBUNK-KENNEBUNKPORT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (Please ask guidance specifically for this application) It is the primary mission of the Alumni Association to award scholarships to Kennebunk High School graduates who need financial assistance in completing their first year of post-secondary education or other alternative program. Other criteria will also be considered and evaluated in selecting those who will receive awards. To be eligible, the applicant must be a Kennebunk High School graduate, have at least one parent, grandparent or guardian who attended or graduated from KHS and must have been accepted to a specific post-secondary school program. Scholarships will be released upon the successful completion of the first semester and acceptance in a second semester program or completion of an alternative program. In addition, this year the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Alumni Association will also provide a scholarship in memory of Mary Tanner who passed away in July of 1978. Mary was an 18 year old Kennebunk High School student, cheerleader and majorette who was loved by all. This scholarship is dedicated to keeping Mary s memory alive and to finding justice for Mary. KENNEBUNK-KENNEBUNKPORT ATHLETIC BOOSTERS STUDENT ATHLETE SCHOLARSHIPS 4 @ $1,000 each. (Please ask guidance specifically for this application.) The KKAB s mission is to promote and support athletic programs affiliated with RSU 21. In our continuing effort to also support the many student athletes who participate on the teams at KHS, we have established four scholarships: two to male senior students/athletes and two to female senior students/athletes who exemplify the values of commitment, leadership, and sportsmanship and have made a positive impact and contribution to Kennebunk High School s Athletic Program. CRITERIA: 1) Student has indicated definite plans to attend post-secondary school, 2) Student athletes or team managers must have participated in KHS athletic programs for at least 3 years, 3) Student has exhibited outstanding leadership and sportsmanship as a team member, 4) Student has demonstrated strong outstanding citizenship at KHS, 5) Student has demonstrated strong academic performance. The KKAB Board of Directors will select the award recipients. Payment will be made the second semester of freshman year. Students are required to send information to the Boosters for payment directly to the school. KENNEBUNK, ARUNDEL & KENNEBUNKPORT EDUCATION ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is intended to support students who are sons/daughters of the KAKEA Association members, Bus Drivers Association members, and Ed Tech Association members who intend to pursue a career in education. Sons/daughters of Food Service

and Secretarial Staff are also eligible. The recipient is selected by the KAKEA Association. Payment will be made upon successful completion of first semester. KENNEBUNK, KENNEBUNKPORT & ARUNDEL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP $500 To be awarded to a graduating KHS senior who is planning to major in a business program at a post-secondary institution. This student should have financial need, good character and a proven track record of volunteer work in the community. The recipient will be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. Payment will be made for second semester after successful completion of the first semester with a GPA equivalent of a B or higher. THE KENNEBUNKPORT CONSOLIDATED PTA SCHOLARSHIP $500 The Kennebunkport Consolidated PTA is pleased to award a $500 scholarship to a graduating KHS Senior who is planning to further his/her education by attending a 2 or 4 year school. The KHS senior should have attended Consolidated School in Kennebunkport for 1 or more years. The candidate should also have financial need. The recipient will be selected by the KHS Scholarship Committee. The check will be made payable to the college in the second semester of the recipient s freshman year. THE KENNEBUNKPORT HEALTH COUNCIL HEALTH PROFESSIONS SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 (Please ask guidance specifically for this application) This scholarship fund was created by the Kennebunkport Health Council to help a Kennebunkport resident pursue a career in the health professions including medicine, nursing, PT, OT, SLP, lab and radiology technology, respiratory technology, medical social work, CNA, etc. Candidates will be asked to submit an essay (200 words) describing their reasons for choosing a health profession and how they will be helping people thru this profession. THE KENNEBUNKPORT LIVING FESTIVAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 To be awarded to a top-performing student who aspires to a career in art and who will follow a course of study in art in college. Applicants must demonstrate a love of art, a passion for excellence and contribute to the art community in the Kennebunks through participation and service. This scholarship will be available for use during second semester of freshman year. KENNETH R. GRANT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 To be awarded to a graduating senior based on the following criteria: 1) Financial Need, 2) 1 st preference will be given to a student attending a vocational-technical program, 3) 2 nd preference will be given to a graduating senior enrolled in any type of postsecondary institution. The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee and payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year. KRISTIN E. KRIPPENDORF MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is presented by Kennebunk Fire Rescue and is awarded to any senior who wishes to further his/her education in the medical/public service fields. First

preference is to be given to those pursuing a career in the medical field and to children of fire and rescue members. Payment of this scholarship will be made after confirmation of enrollment for the second semester of freshman year. MORTON & BETTY JOYCE ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 To be awarded to a KHS senior or previous graduate who has been accepted in an accredited college or other institution of higher learning for the purpose of pursuing a career related to environmental or ecological concern. Selection of recipient will be made by the principal and the guidance counselors based on financial need, academic ability, and demonstrated interest in improving the natural environment and/or ecology. Payment will be made after successful completion of 1st semester of freshman year. NANCY M. FALCONE SCHOLARSHIP(S) $2,000 This scholarship was established in memory of Nancy Falcone, an active parent in the band/majorette program in the '70's and '80's. This scholarship is to be awarded to one to three graduating seniors. The recipient(s) need(s) to have participated in baton twirling and/or band for four academic years during high school. The total amount of the scholarship(s) awarded will not exceed $2,400.00 per year. Payment will be made to the institution for the second semester sophomore year. Representatives of the Falcone family will interview candidates and award the scholarship(s). PEOPLE S UNITED BANK SCHOLARSHIP IN MEMORY OF ROBERT P. WENTWORTH $590 The People s United Bank Scholarship in Memory of Robert P. Wentworth was established by Ocean National Bank (now People s United) to honor Mr. Wentworth, who served as a director from 1964 and chairman from 1981-1984. This fund provides an annual scholarship to a graduating senior from Kennebunk High School who is majoring in business or economics at a four-year college or university. Payment will be made after successful completion of semester one. Recipient will be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. PATTY BRAGDON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 This scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding senior at Kennebunk High School who will be furthering his/her education. The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee based on the attitude, ability and achievement of the applicant. A check will be presented to the recipient at Class Night. PHOEBE WOODMAN HENRY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $400 Phoebe Woodman Henry, throughout her lifetime, gave of herself generously to relatives, friends, neighbors and students. This scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating Kennebunk High School senior who: 1) plans to pursue a further education in a science field, 2) has a financial need, 3) has been an asset to Kennebunk High School. Effort, attitude and cooperation are the most meaningful ingredients in the selection of this graduate. The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. A check will be awarded directly to the recipient at Class Night.

RICHARD ALLEN FOLSOM SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is in loving memory of KHS teacher Rick Folsom who taught history at KHS for more than 25 years. He was a dedicated teacher who loved teaching and had a genuine interest in his students growth both academically and personally. This scholarship honors his commitment to education by supporting a KHS student who is pursuing a two or four year college degree, is hardworking, determined to succeed and has faced adversity in reaching their goals. RICHARD A. UNDERWOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $200 This scholarship is presented to a Kennebunk High School senior who has been accepted to an accredited two or four year vocational technical school or college. The recipient must be of good moral character and must demonstrate average or better scholastic ability. Preference will be given to a student who has faced, met and overcome challenges in the pursuit of his/her education. The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee and payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year. RIVER TREE ARTS SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 A scholarship in the amount of $1,000, in honor of founding member Ellie Dow Sanderson, will be awarded to a graduating senior at Kennebunk High School who has shown promise in the fine and performing arts and who has taken part in a River Tree Arts sponsored activity. This scholarship is given not only to encourage the recipient s lifelong joyful participation in and appreciation of the arts, but also to encourage all of us to value our creative and cultural heritage. The award will be made in consideration of the need of the student as decided by the Principal, Guidance Counselors and a representative from River Tree Arts. Payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year, by mid-february. ROBERT C. COURIER/KENNEBUNKPORT HISTORICAL SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship, in memory of the founder of the Kennebunkport Playhouse, will be awarded to a student, Kennebunk or Kennebunkport resident, graduated from Kennebunk High School, who has financial need in pursuing further education as a major in dramatic arts. Applicants may be interviewed by members of the Kennebunkport Historical Society. A resume of the applicant's experience in theater and a statement of his/her special interests must accompany the written application. This award may not be given out every year if no suitable applicant is found. Payment will be made for second semester of freshman year. SEACOAST GARDEN CLUB SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 To be awarded to a graduating senior who is a resident of Kennebunk, Kennebunkport or Arundel. In offering this scholarship, the Seacoast Garden Club wishes to encourage and financially aid a student who exhibits a strong interest in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning, and/or any other related fields. Candidates should submit the common application form with a personal letter discussing their goals. The

recipient will be selected through the Science Dept. A check will be issued by the organization to the recipient of this scholarship for second semester of freshman year. SPENCER A. TRASK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is to be awarded annually to a graduating senior. Priority will be given to a candidate entering the teaching profession and/or the field of science. Characteristics of a recipient will include sensitivity and service to the needs of others, a demonstration of financial need, and good scholarship (not necessarily at the top of the class). The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. Payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year. TINA AMBROSE MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship in honor of local Kennebunk artist Tina Ambrose seeks to support a student in his or her pursuit of art in post secondary schooling. Financial need preferred. Payment of scholarship will be for successful completion of first semester of freshman year. Selection of the recipient will be made by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. VERNE E. BODWELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $200 This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior planning to become a science teacher. The recipient to be selected by the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee and a check will be awarded directly to the recipient at Class Night. VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS SCHOLARSHIPS $500 One scholarship of $500.00 will be awarded to a senior who plans to continue their education beyond high school. A 250 word essay explaining what patriotism means to you is required. The recipient will be selected by the VFW Scholarship Committee. Payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year. WASHINGTON HOSE COMPANY SCHOLARSHIPS An annual scholarship to be awarded to a graduate of Kennebunk High School/RSU 21 for further education at a vocational technical school, college or university. First preference will be given to a son/daughter of a present or past fireman. Second preference to be a resident of Lower Village to include Washington Hose Company s responsibility, which covers Heath Road south and west to Wells boundary. The organization s scholarship committee will select the recipient. WEBBER-LEFEBVRE AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIP $350 Applicants must be Kennebunk residents, seniors at Kennebunk High School and contemplating a two-year course of study. This scholarship based on need, scholastic ability and probable success in anticipated scholastic pursuits. Recipients to be selected by the organization and payment will be made for the second semester of freshman year. WEST KENNEBUNK FIRE DEPARTMENT SCHOLARSHIPS 3 @ $500 To be awarded to graduates of Kennebunk High School/MSAD71 for further education at a vocational technical school, college or university. First preference will be given to a son/daughter of a present or past firefighter/ems in Kennebunk and second preference to

be a resident of West Kennebunk. In addition, a scholarship with the same preference will be awarded in memory of fire fighter Mark Lank. The West Kennebunk Fire Department will select all recipients. WILLIAM WARD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $500 This scholarship is presented by Kennebunk Fire Rescue and is awarded to any senior who wishes to further his/her education in the medical/public service fields. First preference is to be given to those who have shown a strong community involvement and to the children of fire and rescue members. The recipient will be selected by the Kennebunk Fire & Rescue Scholarship Committee. Payment of this scholarship will be made after confirmation of enrollment for the second semester of freshman year. YORK HOSPITAL WELLS URGENT CARE SCHOLARSHIP $100 To be awarded to a student entering the Medical Field. A check will be presented to the recipient on Class Night. Selection will be made through the KHS Faculty Scholarship Committee. No applications are necessary.) To be awarded to the highest ranking calculus student upon enrollment in college. In the event that calculus is not offered; the recipient is to be selected, as above, from the most advanced college preparatory mathematics class by the teacher of the course. In the event of a tie for top position, the teacher will then determine the recipient in consultation with the Principal and the Guidance Counselor. Character and financial need to be weighed equally. Payment will be made for second semester of freshman year. DAVID SHIELDS SR. GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARD (For informational only. No application is necessary) To be awarded to graduating seniors who have made a difference in their school and/or community by simply displaying honesty, compassion, respect, responsibility and courage in their every day life. Students need not be college bound but must approach their future with a positive attitude and the drive to be the best they can be. HANCOCK LUMBER COMPANY SCHOLARSHIP $250 (For information only. A check from Hancock Lumber Company will be issued to the recipient upon proof of semester two registration or copy of first semester transcript. JUNE LITTLE RECORD SCHOLARSHIP $100 (For informational only. No applications necessary for this scholarship.) To be awarded to the KHS graduating senior ranked #14 th in his/her class at the end of seven semesters and who will be going on to post-secondary schooling. A check will be presented at Class Night to the recipient. KATIE A. CARBONI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP $1,000 (No applications necessary for this scholarship. The recipient will be selected by the Carboni family and the KHS field hockey coach.) $1,000.00 To be awarded to a graduating senior (field hockey player) planning on going on to a two or four-year college. Recipient must be an all around good student, fun-loving and enthusiastic. Payment to be made for the second semester after completion of a successful first semester. SHIRLEY D ANGELO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (No applications necessary for this scholarship. The recipient will be selected by the D Angelo family.) This scholarship will be presented to a graduating senior who will attend a two or four year college/university. The graduate must have participated in the girls basketball program at KHS and been in good standing within the program. The student/athlete will be selected based upon dedication to the program, sportsmanship, academic and athletic achievement. The recipient to be selected by family representatives.
