Dean s Office Scholarships (open to all CLA Disciplines) Dr. Pamela Washington Scholarship for Liberal Arts Outstanding Sophomore https://occf.academicworks.com/opportunities/1398 Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, provided by the Everett Family Foundation through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, recognizes a sophomore student who has excelled in the classroom and who demonstrate campus leadership. Liberal Arts Civic Engagement Scholarship Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to recognize a Liberal Arts student s leadership and community involvement. 1. Must be a Liberal Arts major. 2. Must be a full-time student. 3. Must have a minimum of 3.0 GPA. Liberal Arts Honor Society Student Officer Scholarship Scholarship Mission: The scholarship provides recognition to the outstanding efforts of a Liberal Arts honor society officer. 1. Liberal Arts Student Organization Officer Scholarship Scholarship Mission: The scholarship provides recognition to the outstanding efforts of a Liberal Arts student organization officer. 1. Must be serving first term as an LA student organization officer. 2. Must be a full-time student. 3. Must be a Liberal Arts major. 4. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 5. Must be a continuing student in the Fall semester that the scholarship is disbursed. The Panera Bread Liberal Arts Student Organization President Scholarship Scholarship Mission: The scholarship provides recognition to the outstanding leadership and efforts of a Liberal Arts Student Organization president. 1. Must be a College of Liberal Arts major. 2. Must be a full-time student. 3. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. 4. Must have served at least one term as a president of a LA student organization. Textbook Brokers Leadership Scholarships in Liberal Arts Scholarship Mission: To provide scholarship assistance to students within the College of Liberal Arts that demonstrate leadership. 1. Student must be a Liberal Arts major. 2. Must have at least a 3.0 GPA. 3. Must be enrolled full-time 12 hours UG or 9 hours GR.

Debate Scholarships Doug Duke Endowment for Excellence Scholarship Mission: This scholarship is provided for meeting the immediate needs of debaters. 1. Minimum GPA of 3.0. 2. Enrolled full time. 3. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. H.B. Mitchell Endowed Scholarship for Debate Scholarship Mission: This scholarship is named in honor of former debate coach Harland B. Mitchell and is awarded to the student who exemplifies the best qualities of Oklahoma high school debate. This scholarship is for Oklahoma residents only and is only available to students beginning their first year at UCO. 1. Oklahoma resident who has committed to attending UCO. 2. Accepted in the Debate Program. 3. Show competitive success by providing records and documentation from tournaments and quality competitions. Other success such as speaker and team awards, Oklahoma high school policy debate and national tournaments will be considered. 4. Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale. 5. Letter of recommendation from high school debate coach. (Enter a valid email address) The Lee Sherman Debate Scholarship Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a student who is an Oklahoma resident and who has committed to going to UCO and to being active in the Debate Program. 1. Plan on attending UCO in the Fall. 2. Accepted into the UCO Debate Program. 3. Show competitive success by providing records and documentation from tournaments and quality competitions. 4. Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale from high school. 5. Participate on the UCO Debate Team for one year. 6. Provide a letter of recommendation from high school debate coach. The Tyler Henry Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Debate Scholarship Mission: This scholarship is provided to assist a student who has completed 12 hours at UCO and has been accepted to the Debate Team. 1. Accepted as a member of the UCO Debate Team. 2. Must have completed 12 hours at UCO. 3. Provide a letter describing influences in declared major, financial need, and special circumstances.

Criminal Justice Scholarships Dr. Jaime Burns Scholarship in Criminal Justice-Corrections Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to an excelling student with the chosen major of Criminal Justice- Corrections 1. Must be a Criminal Justice-Corrections major. 2. Must have minimum GPA of 3.3. 3. Must have completed 60 hours of coursework. Dr. Sid Brown Excellence in Criminal Justice Award Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a Criminal Justice major whose research paper is selected by the committee. 1. Have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. 2. Must be majoring in criminal justice. 3. Must be an undergraduate senior or graduate student. Finney Scholars Scholarship for Criminal Justice Scholarship Mission: To provide scholarships that recognize Liberal Art students who are identified as having a proven record of high academic achievement in their chosen major. 1. Criminal Justice major. 2. 3.5 GPA in chosen major. 3. 3.5 GPA overall. 4. Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student. 5. Committee may request further documentation which could include proof of excellence through CJ coursework or CJ activities. W. Roger Webb Endowed Scholarship in Criminal Justice Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a Criminal Justice student who shows passion and commitment to their chosen major as evidenced by strong academic performance. 1. GPA of at least a 3.0. 2. Enrolled in at least 12 hours full time. 3. Criminal Justice Major

English Scholarships Adam Luke Worden Memorial Endowed Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship honors Adam Luke Worden, who received the Bachelor of Arts degree in English with minors in Religious Studies and Philosophy from UCO. This memorial scholarship provides financial assistance to an undergraduate English or Creative Writing major who is gifted in the discipline. 1. Enrolled in Bachelor of Arts program in English or the Bachelor of Arts program in English - Creative Writing. 2. Junior or senior status. 3. Minimum overall GPA of 2.5. 4. Full time student. Barbara Kay Gilmore Endowed Scholarships for English Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in honor of UCO alumna Barbara Kay Gilmore, recognizes outstanding full- and part-time undergraduate and graduate students in English. 1. Full- or part-time enrollment in the Bachelor of Arts program in English, the Bachelor of Arts program in English/Creative Writing, the Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education, or the Master of Arts program in English (any major). 2. Minimum GPA of 3.0. 3. Completed at least 60 undergraduate credit hours or have attained graduate standing. Bob Burke Endowed Scholarship in Creative Writing Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established by historian, author, and attorney Bob Burke, provides financial assistance to students applying to or enrolled in the Master of Arts program in Creative Writing. 1. Students applying to or enrolled in the Master of Arts program in Creative Writing. 2. Minimum GPA of 2.5 Carol Hamilton Creative Writing Endowed Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in honor of UCO alumna and former faculty member Carol Hamilton, supports a UCO senior who has been accepted into the graduate program in Creative Writing. 1. Show promise as a creative writer. 2. Must be a student in his/her first year of the UCO Master of Arts in Creative Writing program. 3. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded.

Clara Kessler Endowed Memorial Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, which honors UCO alumna and Eastern Washington University faculty member Clara Kessler, recognizes an English Education major who intends to teach English. Criteria 1. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education. 2. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Dale Edward McConathy Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in honor of UCO alumnus Dale Edward McConathy, recognizes an undergraduate or graduate student in English who displays promise as a writer. 1. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in English, the Bachelor of Arts program in English/Creative Writing, the Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education, or the Master of Arts Program in English (any major). 2. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Danielle Lelene Barnes Endowed Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in memory and honor of UCO student Danielle Lelene Barnes, recognizes a student who is pursuing a major in English and a minor in Women's Studies. 1. English major. 2. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0. 3. Enrolled in the Women's Studies minor. 4. Preference given to a student who is active in the association of Women's Studies Student Organization. 5. Preference given to a female minority student. 6. Open to all classification (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior) and to international students. 7. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Dr. Claude Arnold Scholarship https://occf.academicworks.com/opportunities/1390 Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, provided by the Everett Family Foundation through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, recognizes a student who has excelled in the classroom and who shows outstanding research ability and potential in the field of English Studies. 1. Must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in English, Bachelor of Arts in English/Creative Writing, or Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education. 2. Minimum GPA of 3.0. 3. GPA of at least 3.5 in the major.

Dr. Dean Everett Outstanding English Student Award https://occf.academicworks.com/opportunities/1394 Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, provided by the Everett Family Foundation through the Oklahoma City Community Foundation, recognizes a well-rounded student who has excelled academically and has contributed to the campus community. 1. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in English, the Bachelor of Arts program in English/Creative Writing, or the Bachelor Arts in Education program in English Education. 2. GPA of 3.0 overall. 3. GPA of 3.5 in the major. Dr. Loree M. Rice Endowed Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in honor of emerita faculty member Dr. Loree M. Rice, recognizes a junior English Education student 1. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education. 2. Junior status. 3. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Finney Scholars Scholarship for English Scholarship Mission: This scholarship recognizes Liberal Art students who have a proven record of high academic achievement in their chosen major. 1. English major. 2. 3.5 GPA in chosen major. 3. 3.5 GPA overall. 4. Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with the University. 5. Show practical evidence of excellence in the discipline as determined by the department.

Lorraine K. Bell Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established in honor of former UCO English and humanities instructor Lorraine King Bell, recognizes a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarly ability and has played an active role in department and university activities. 1. Enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program in English, the Bachelor of Arts program in English - Creative Writing, the Bachelor of Arts in Education program in English Education, or the Master of Arts program in English any major. 2. Junior, senior, or graduate standing. 3. Demonstrated scholarly excellence. 4. Active participation in department and university activities. Martin, Wilson, and Associates Endowed Scholarship in Creative Writing Scholarship Mission: This scholarship, established by Jim Martin and Evelyn Wilson, recognizes a Creative Writing student. 1. Majoring in Bachelor of Arts in English-Creative writing or Master of Arts in Creative Writing. 2. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0. 3. Enrolled at UCO with junior, senior, or graduate standing.

History and Geography Scholarships Caffee Family Scholarship Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a UCO student who is a History major and has high academic achievement and strong writing skills. 1. Full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled at UCO and enrolled for the semester you will receive the scholarship. 2. Minimum 3.25 GPA. 3. History Major. Carolyn Pool Scholarship in Museum Studies Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a UCO student (graduate or undergraduate) in the Department of History and Geography who is active in museum studies. 1. Enrolled at UCO as a full-time student 2. History-Museum Studies major 3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 Dr. Churchill Gender and Sexuality Student Scholarship Scholarship Mission: This scholarship is awarded to an excelling student(s) with the declared or intent to declare minor in Gender and Sexuality. Those with intent must submit proof of declaration and enrollment in Gender and Sexuality minor classes prior to the scholarship distribution to the student. Preference will be given to students with majors in the College of Liberal Arts. 1. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0. 2. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Dr. Stan Hoig Endowed Memorial Scholarship in History Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for a UCO student who is a declared History Department major who submits a paper focusing on the American West. 1. Major in History General, History Education, History Museum Studies, or Geography. 2. Submit a paper on the American West, including Oklahoma, American Indians, or any other aspect of the region. (The recipient must commit to submitting the paper for publication in the Chronicles of Oklahoma or other scholarly journal.) 3. Minimum GPA of 3.5 in the graduate program or 3.0 in the undergraduate program.

Emeritus Scholarship for History and Geography Scholarship Mission: The scholarship is awarded in honor of a retired or retiring professor of History and Geography. 1. Enrolled at UCO for the following Fall semester. 2. History, Geography, History-Museum Studies, or History Education major. 3. Junior status (at least 60 hours) in the Spring 2017 semester. 4. Completed 18 hours in history, geography, and/or social studies; at least 6 of the hours must be 3000 level courses or above. 5. Overall GPA of 3.0 with a GPA of 3.5 in major. Finney Scholars Scholarship for History and Geography Scholarship Mission: To provide scholarships that recognize Liberal Art students who are identified as having a proven record of high academic achievement in their chosen major. 1. Declared History or Geography major. 2. 3.5 GPA in chosen major. 3. 3.5 GPA overall. 4. Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with the University. 5. Show practical evidence of excellence in the discipline as determined by the department. John Osburn Scholarship for History and Geography Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to History or Geography students who show outstanding achievement in academics and activities as it relates to their major. 1. Full-time student at UCO. 2. History or Geography major undergraduate or graduate. 3. Minimum overall GPA of 3.0. 4. Submit an essay 1 p. discussing outstanding achievements in one of the following areas as it relates to the study of history or geography:-volunteer work-goals and aspirations-financial need-mentor influence

Kenneth Rees Endowed Scholarship in History Education Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for one History Education student. 1. History Education major. 2. 3.0 minimum GPA. 3. 3.5 major GPA. 4. Two letters of recommendation from faculty members. 5. Applicant must be participating in their student teaching in the Fall semester in which the scholarship is awarded. LeRoy Long IV Graduate Student Research Award for History and Geography Scholarship Mission: This award provides funds to one graduate student each academic year to perform archival research in Oklahoma, the United States, or abroad. 1. Must be a student of the Department of History and Geography. 2. Must be a graduate student performing original archival research. Pugh Family Pioneer Endowed Scholarship in Geography Scholarship Mission: This scholarship provides funds for a student whose major is Geography who holds a standing of sophomore or junior at UCO. The scholarship is open to US as well as International students. 1. Sophomore or junior standing in the semester awarded. 2. Geography major. 3. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. Russ Goodno History Scholarship Scholarship Mission: The scholarship is awarded to a History General or History Education major in honor of retired Professor of History Russ Goodno. 1. History or Geography-General or History Education major. 2. Minimum GPA of 2.5 overall. 3. Current FAFSA on file with the UCO Office of Financial Aid. 4. Must provide a 1-2 page essay describing financial need and academic potential.

Sheryle Marlow Memorial Scholarship in Geography Scholarship Mission: This scholarship recognizes a Geography student who shows passion and commitment to their chosen major and has financial need. 1. Minimum GPA of 2.0. 2. Undergraduate student. 3. Geography major. 4. One-page essay on how your education at UCO will benefit yourself and the community. W. David Baird Scholarship in Oklahoma and Native American History Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship to a UCO student in the Department of History and Geography who meets the requirements outlined in the signed scholarship agreement. 1. Full time undergraduate student 2. Geography, history or history education major 3. Minimum 3.0 GPA 4. Sophomore or above

Humanities and Philosophy Scholarships Alumni and Faculty Scholarship for Philosophy Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for Philosophy students who demonstrate high academic promise. 1. Declared Philosophy major. 2. Completed at least 15 credit hours of Philosophy courses. 3. Must be a continuing student in the fall semester that the scholarship is awarded. 4. Philosophy GPA will be primary consideration. Finney Scholars Scholarship for Political Science Scholarship Mission: To provide scholarships that recognize Liberal Art students who are identified as having a proven record of high academic achievement in their chosen major. 1. Declared Humanities, Philosophy, or Applied Liberal Arts major. 2. 3.5 GPA in chosen major. 3. 3.5 GPA overall. 4. Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in good standing with the University. 5. Show practical evidence of excellence in the discipline as determined by the department. Richard and Helen Peters' Scholarship for Outstanding Academic Achievement in Applied Liberal Arts Scholarship Mission: To recognize a student's outstanding academic achievement in Applied Liberal Arts. 1. Applied Liberal Arts major. 2. Full or part-time undergraduate student 3. Meet the standards set by the program under the direction of the Department of Humanities and Philosophy. Vivian Lanier Endowed Scholarship Scholarship Mission: To provide a scholarship for a student showing great promise in Humanities in order to aid in their quest for knowledge. 1. Declared Humanities major. 2. Completed at least 18 hours toward a Humanities degree. 3. Show great promise in Humanities. GPA considered. 4. Outstanding analytical ability and dedicated to the subject matter. 5. Special consideration will be given to students who have acted as a tutor or who plan on pursuing a teaching career.
