What initiated Cranbrook s decision to switch to LED street lights? Installed several products (before CSA) as a trial and they were well received. Energy Manager engaged & formed a steering committee. By consensus, LED street lights were on the top of the project list. unityblue av-media & energy insight
While there is typically more opportunity with the big energy users there can be significant opportunity where there is traction elsewhere. unityblue av-media & energy insight
Getting Council approval Energy Manager & Senior Management developed business case and presented to CAO. Discussions between CAO and Mayor prior to council meetings. No debate on Phase One approval in budget meeting. unityblue av-media & energy insight

program helps in making the decision to convert. The detail of the RCSA, and BC Hydro involvement, increased confidence. With a small muni s limited capacity to run such a progressive RFP, it could have taken longer, missed important details leaving us with inferior product, or not happened at all. unityblue av-media & energy insight
Process Gas Breaks Gas Breaks Stay on a keen timeline but be ready to pause/wait along the way too! unityblue av-media & energy insight
CSA program is useful in purchasing LED street lights. Consultant helped define street type scenarios. Care needed to select ballasts, sockets, model # s etc!! CSAs fit with purchasing policy review 3 vendor products prior to selection. unityblue av-media & energy insight
Technical notes Let go of the old notion of wattage. Even NEMA standard 45LED stickers are misleading: Technology advances could mean 35LED does the same thing in a few years. LED fixtures are very specific to the light distribution required and location. unityblue av-media & energy insight
How much (approximately, as % of project cost) did Hydro Power Smart cover? A bit more than 20% for Phase One. Did you apply for, and receive, any other incentive funding towards the conversion? Gas Tax fund covered remaining budget. unityblue av-media & energy insight
What is your return on investment, how much will you save by switching to LED street lights? City of Cranbrook can expect to see 20% ROI each year, or approximately $1.4M in savings over 20 years. unityblue av-media & energy insight
What s next? Phase One installation nearing completion. Updating New Subdivision Bylaw with LED standards. Hope to purchase Phase Two as soon as we get incentives. Controls unityblue av-media & energy insight
