Bartow Administrative Service Center. All plans shall be "nondiscriminatory." These plans shall be adopted annually by the Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education. g. approval of employee salary schedules for 2014-2015. h. recommendation that the last day of school for students be set for Friday, May 30, 2014. i. approval for the Blue Springs Parks and Recreation Department to use Peve Stadium for the annual July 4, 2014 holiday festivities to including a band concert and pyrotechnic display and an alternate date of July 5, 2014 for use of the stadium should inclement weather prohibit the celebration on July 4. Dale Falck seconded the motion, which carried unanimously in favor. President Wright joined the meeting at 6:22 p.m. No. 69 Rhonda Gilstrap moved to adopt the regular agenda as presented. Cara Anger announced that Jim Burgess, communication arts teacher at Delta Woods Middle School had been selected as the April "Employee of the Month." Cara presented background information and comments reflecting reasons Mr. Burgess was selected for this honor. President Wright presented a plaque and gift bag to Mr. Burgess in recognition of his selection as "Employee of the Month." Mr. Burgess was joined at the meeting by his wife, daughter and two grandsons. He thanked the superintendent and board. Cara Anger announced that Payton Minnis, eighth grader from Sunny Pointe Middle School had been selected as the April "Student of the Month." Payton was accompanied by her parents, brother and other family members and friends to the meeting. Cara presented background information and comments reflecting reasons Payton was selected for this honor. President Wright presented a plaque and gift bag to Payton in recognition of her selection as "Student of the Month, and Payton thanked the board for the honor. Dr. Finley introduced Todd Nurnberg, principal of James Lewis Elementary School, for the program highlight. Mr. Nurnberg in turn introduced teachers Jennifer Gooch and Jade Machin who gave a presentation on the Year of Poetry program at JLE. Students Ragin Corwin, Carter Gooch, Kayla Marker, Kylie Noland, Emma Ireland and Cameron Stewart read poems they had written. The students then presented gift bags to each of the board members and administrators. The MSBA video update was presented. Jim Finley presented the legislative update. The oath of office was administered to re-elected board of education members Kay Coen, Dale Falck and Dale Walkup by Virginia Dameron, secretary to the board of education. Mrs. Coen, Mr. Falck and Mr. Walkup then took their seats on the Blue Springs Board of Education. (copy of oaths attached to these minutes) Reorganization of the board took place at this time and Dr. Paul Kinder, acting as chairman, asked for nominations for the office of President of the Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education for the 2014-2015 term. No. 70 Dave Wright moved that the following slate of officers be nominated for the Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education for the 2014-2015 term. Kay Coen seconded the motion. Kent Bradford, President Rhonda Gilstrap, Vice-President Jennifer Casey, Treasurer Hearing no further nominations. Dr. Kinder declared the nominations had ceased and asked for a vote declaring this slate of officers be elected. The motion to elect the slate of officers for 2014-2015 carried unanimously in favor. Kent Bradford then took the chair as President of the Blue Springs Board of Education.2014-
Page 53 2015 term. President Bradford asked for nominations for the office of Secretary of the Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education for the 2014-2015 term. No. 71 Rhonda Gilstrap moved that Virginia Dameron be nominated for the office of Secretary of the Blue Springs R-IV Board of Education for the remainder of her employment with the Blue Springs School District, since Mrs. Dameron is retiring June 30, 2014. Dale Walkup seconded the motion. Hearing no further nominations, President Bradford declared the nominations had ceased and asked for a vote declaring Virginia Dameron be elected as Secretary. The motion carried unanimously in favor. President Bradford presented Mr. Wright a gavel plaque and flowers in recognition of his service as President of the Board of Education during the 2013-2014 term. President Bradford made remarks and thanked Mr. Wright for his service. No. 72 Dale Falck moved to approve the following student trip requests: Blue Springs High School Wildcat Jazz Band Branson Belle Riverboat and other Branson performances Branson, MO May 9 thru 11, 2014 Blue Springs High School and Blue Spring South High School HOSA students National Competition, Orlando, Florida, June 24 thru 29, 2014 Blue Springs High School and Blue Springs South High School students Competition at TSA National Conference, Washington, D.C., June 27 thru July 1, 2014 Rhonda Gilstrap seconded the motion, which carried unanimously in favor. Dr. Kinder provided information regarding the medical, vision and dental insurance rates for the 2014-2015 school year. No. 73 Dale Walkup moved to approve the medical/dental/vision insurance recommendation. Rhonda Gilstrap seconded the motion, which carried unanimously in favor.
