The Meetings Start At 1800. Executive Committee Meetings Will Be Held At 1700 At The Same Location And Date. Commander s Corner Ahoy Everyone! November is upon us, Halloween has passed, Thanksgiving is just around the corner, then the full Holiday Season is here and gone before we notice it. Christmas and any of the other holidays that you may celebrate including New Years Celebration for 2013 will be full of fun, laughter, friends and family and, of course, that inevitable monster called stress. So my wish for you all is to relax, take it easy, enjoy these times for they will soon be gone and another year will arrive. How do I? While relaxing, please take a good look through the USPS website. A real interesting section is at the top of the Home Page entitled How do I.? Whether you wish to become a Vessel Examiner, review USPS policy or make a donation to the Century Fund, it s all there and more. If your question cannot be answered, you can easily request an answer simply by sending an email (see note at bottom of the How do I? page). Also, for your further perusal, at the top of the How do I? page there is a way to access learning about and understanding how the various Departments within your squadron function, in addition to the various Committees within each Department.

Our squadron currently has active Committee Chairs for: Boating Activities, Membership, Newsletter, Operations Training, Public Boating Course, Public Contact, Public Relations, Roster, Safety and Vessel Safety Check. Our squadron s Committee Chairs have had other positions as well and it is time for those who have not served as a Committee Chair to speak up and volunteer to take on one of these positions or any other position which you feel may be a good fit for your many talents and I know many of you have lots of talents! So, please, everyone, I urge you to go the USPS website, click on How do I? and find out what you can do for your squadron, your district and the United States Power Squadrons in whole. The people you will meet are knowledgeable, fun and will be happy to help you along your way to a more fulfilling experience within our squadron, our District, National and more. You will be pleasantly surprised at the fun you can have while working toward boating safety and education. Folks, we need you, on the Bridge as well as on our Committees. IMPORTANT: Excerpts from the USPS Monthly Broadcast: Commander Kits, ED-1s and ED-80s Now Available Online District and Squadron Commander Kits can now be found online at the USPS website. Miguel Long I look forward to seeing you all at our meeting in November..Cdr. Jo Anne Waller 2

Administrative Officer s Report Our October General Meeting took place on the 10 th at the Black Bear Diner in Bullhead City. We have continued to experiment with various meeting places and this month s selection turned out to be pretty good. We enjoyed a separate meeting room and a variety of menu items. Fifteen members attended. Our newest member, Jim Snellenburg, was sworn during the meeting. Commander Waller and Jim Snellenburg Seven members enjoyed a get-together at the Riverside Resort Gourmet Lounge on October 16 th for an evening of conversation and hors d oeuvres. As always, the river view was spectacular and a great place to discuss boating. Since this is an annual event usually held in November, I noticed the Lounge was a little less crowded than in previous years. It could be due to the fact that the snowbirds (seasonal visitors) are just beginning to return to the area. The October Members choice event was hosted by Pat and Barb Bramble on October 20. The weather was beautiful and the Mexican Fiesta theme was great! The authentic Mexican food dishes were tremendous and everyone enjoyed the afternoon. The Brambles have been regular visitors to the Western Mexican coast for many years. Many a day of fantastic fishing was spent on the Bottom Line their Grady White. Thanks Pat and Barb for hosting this event. 3

Upcoming Events: The November General Meeting will be held at the Black Bear Diner on the 14 th. Watch for an email at the beginning of November. In the meantime, save the date. Our Annual Meeting and Christmas Party will be held at the Riverside Resort Bridgeview Room on December 12th. As in the past, an email will be sent out to squadron members in late November. We will need your RSVP and you will need to make your entree selection from a choice of three items outlined in the email. Your payment will be needed prior to the event. If you must have any information ahead of receiving the Email, please contact me by phone or Email. We will be voting for our new bridge at this meeting. Barb Bramble has sent out an Email listing the squadron members who have been nominated for a bridge positions in 2013. As a reminder, we will be contributing to the Bullhead City Fire Department Holiday Toy Drive so be sure to bring your new, unwrapped toy donations to the Christmas Party. Again, watch for an email toward the end of November.Lt/C Sharon Weller Birthdays There are no squadron members celebrating birthdays in November, but since we already have that pretty birthday cake there you might be interested in knowing that: Lou The Hulk Ferrigno will have a birthday on the 9 th ; actor Leonardo DiCaprio was born on the 11 th and Vice President Joe Biden celebrates on the 20 th. And, if you really care, go to this web site for more. http://www.famousbirthdays.com/nov.html Editor s Notes The USPS will soon launch a year of celebration leading to our 100 th anniversary in February of 2l14. I m sure that you all know from where we came but I thought the way they put it was interesting. The following is an excerpt from the Marketing Committee s newsletter. The year of anticipating the 100th Anniversary of the United States Power Squadrons is upon us.from a historical perspective we should all become familiar with our heritage. It began simply when a man at the Boston Yacht Club in Marblehead, Massachusetts, saw that people buying those newly developed recreational power boats needed special instruction. So effective was Charles Chapman s boating safety 5

course, that when Undersecretary of the Navy, Franklin Roosevelt, saw it, he encouraged yacht clubs from around the nation to assemble in New York. On 2 February 1914, the New York Yacht Club was the site in which, Roosevelt s support brought the United States Power Squadrons into existence. Marblehead, Massachusetts to Bullhead City, Arizona quite a trip! Calling All Publishers!!! The squadron will soon be looking for a new editor for our newsletter. I intend to step down as the editor of the No Wake Zone with the installation of a new bridge for 2013. It is not necessary to know a publishing software program, just the desire and/or willingness to devote some time during the latter part of the month to gather and lay out the next edition. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have. If you are interested, please contact our Commander. This is not an elected position. 6

The No Wake Zone is a publication of the Lake Mohave Sail And Power Squadron. P/C Andy Pensavalle, Editor. Lake Mohave, located along the borders of Arizona and Nevada, is one of a series of reservoirs that control the Colorado River water flow between its head waters and the Gulf of California. Lake Mohave was formed with the completion of Davis Dam in 1951 and put into service in 1952 as part of a Colorado River water agreement between the United States and Mexico. The Lake Mohave Sail And Power Squadron was formed in 2006 in response to the needs of area boaters for boating safety education and to enhance their boating experience.
