Compassionate, Dedicated, World-Class Clinical Care. Right Here at Home. At Children s Mercy, we have been providing innovative, world-class health care to children for the past 100 years. In that time, we have delivered thousands upon thousands of positive outcomes to children throughout our region, the nation, and even around the world. Every day at Children s Mercy is a day we re changing the lives of children for the better. Every day at Children s Mercy is a day we re advancing pediatric medicine further. Every day at Children s Mercy we are working wonders. Cancer The Children s Mercy Cancer Center provides comprehensive pediatric cancer care to nearly 2,000 children each year. Our commitment to clinical research and innovation has helped us earn recognition as one of the top cancer programs for children in the nation. Cardiology and Heart Surgery Our cardiology doctors are among the top experts in their field, and the large number of delicate surgeries they perform ranks us at the top of the list among children s hospitals in the United States and abroad. Our groundbreaking research gives physicians a better chance to deliver positive outcomes, and a clearer picture of how to prevent and treat pediatric heart disease in the first place. Diabetes and Endocrinology We were the first diabetes program in the country to be certified by the American Diabetes Association, and we continue to be leaders in diabetes care as well as in the search for a cure. And because we have one of the largest pediatric Endocrinology divisions in the country, we also offer Turner Syndrome, Thyroid Nodule and Carcinoma clinics to provide better diagnosis and treatment of these conditions. Neonatology/Neonatal Care Children s Mercy is a leader in neonatal research, with focused expertise in chronic lung disease, a common issue with premature infants. We re the only provider in the region to offer a Level IV neonatal intensive care unit the highest level of care available. Our nationally recognized specialists are developing and employing many of the latest ECMO (heart and lung bypass), nitric oxide and neonatal cooling therapies. And with our new Elizabeth J. Ferrell Fetal Health Center, we re one of only a few freestanding children s hospitals in the country to provide on-site delivery service for infants born with complex anomalies. Nephrology/Kidney As the Midwest Clinical Coordinating Center for the NIHfunded Chronic Kidney Disease in Children (CKiD) study, we are leading the largest pediatric nephrology research study ever conducted in North America. This is one of the many reasons our nephrology division is consistently ranked in the top 10 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Our expertise has translated into outstanding outcomes for our kidney transplant patients, with some of the highest patient and graft survival rates in the nation over the last three years. Neurology and Neurosurgery Our board-certified pediatric neurologists offer highly-specialized care for children with conditions affecting the central nervous system, spinal cord, nerves and muscles. We are one of only 12 pediatric hospitals in the nation to have a level IV Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Orthopaedics Emergency/Urgent Care and Transport We have the only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center between St. Louis and Denver, offering immediate access to a wide variety of highly trained and certified doctors, surgeons, nurses and other personnel and equipment 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, urgent care is available at Children s Mercy Blue Valley, Children s Mercy Northland and Children s Mercy East. And our Critical Care pediatric transport program supported by our state-of-the art helicopter, airplane and ground ambulance fleet has been recognized as one of the best in the nation. Gastroenterology/Digestive Disorders 2 Our Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology is nationally recognized for pioneering ground-breaking approaches in treatment and for conducting research to improve the effectiveness of care for children with intestinal, liver and nutrition disorders. It features an outpatient Multidisciplinary Feeding Clinic to provide children and families with a comprehensive approach to their care not commonly seen at pediatric hospitals across the nation. Our orthopaedic specialists treat children with injuries and congenital or developmental conditions that affect muscles, bones and nerves. We are also innovative leaders in sports medicine, hand surgery and spinal care. In fact, our Center for Sports Medicine is one of the only programs in the country led by specialists who are trained in both sports medicine and a pediatric subspecialty. Pulmonology/Respiratory Disorders We provide wide-ranging care for cystic fibrosis, pediatric respiratory, technology-dependent (tracheotomy or home ventilation) and sleep disorder patients. Urology Our urologic surgery staff provides medical and surgical care of children with urinary tract diseases and disorders. Our staff manages complex congenital anomalies that require considerable training and specialized radiographic exams to achieve successful outcomes. US News & World Report has ranked us among the best children s hospitals in the country in these specialities.

75O Pediatric Specialists. + 4O Different Specialties. All For One child: YOURS. + Pediatric Expertise Children s Mercy has one of the largest pediatric medical staffs in the nation and has been recognized again for our services and care by U.S. News & World Report. Beginning with medical school and progressing through residencies and fellowships, it takes several years of highly focused training before a physician can become a pediatric specialist. Our nurses, technicians and therapists also must go through specialized training to ensure they are qualified to meet the unique needs of children. And since we see more children than all of the other area hospitals combined, our staff has far more experience in dealing with both the routine and rare cases. It s a level of pediatric expertise that you simply can t find at other hospitals. Research and Innovation Research that is conducted today leads to the treatments of tomorrow. Children s Mercy s physicians, scientists, nurses and other specialists are actively engaged in finding new treatments and cures for pediatric diseases and injuries of all types and kinds. Nearly 1,000 active research studies are underway. T he Children s Mercy Research Institute focuses on outcomes and transforming lives, building the hospital s century-long commitment to pediatric research and medical innovation. A s home to the largest pediatric clinical pharmacology program in North America, Children s Mercy is researching the safe and effective use of medications in children. O ur Center for Pediatric Genomic Medicine is the only pediatric center in the world performing whole genome sequencing and is an epicenter for genomic research. O ur Center for Prospective Clinical Trials (Surgery) is the first of its kind in pediatric surgery and the only center in the region dedicated to prospective investigation that is conducting a high volume of clinical studies. C hildren s Mercy is co-leading the largest kidney research project in North America. T he Children s Mercy Bioethics Center is recognized as a national center of excellence on issues related to clinical care of children and pediatric medical research. Family-Centered Care Children s medicine isn t just about doctors. In fact, parents and other family members are key in a child s getting better. So we ve listened to them and designed our hospital to be child and family friendly, with playrooms on every inpatient floor, meals that appeal to kids, amenities just for parents and much more. We also know that kids need to be kids, even when they don t feel well. That s why Children s Mercy has one of the largest Child Life staffs in the nation, providing specially trained experts who make a child s hospitalization as unobtrusive as possible while ensuring that children understand the care they are getting. Nationally Recognized Children s Mercy ranks among the nation s top pediatric medical centers. U.S. News & World Report s 2017 Best Children s Hospitals recognized us for ranking in all 10 pediatric specialties for the fifth time in the last seven years and third year in a row. Children s Mercy was one of only 24 qualified children s hospitals to rank in all 10 specialties. Best Places to Work in Kansas City Children s Mercy consistently has been named one of the 10 Best Places to Work in Kansas City (large-company category) based on our employee survey results. Academic Excellence Our pediatric residency and fellowship programs train the next generation of pediatric subspecialists and surgeons advancing medical education today to build pediatric health care leaders of tomorrow. In fact, many of the region s pediatricians get their start right here at Children s Mercy. In an affiliation with the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, our medical staff of more than 750 board-certified pediatricians, subspecialists and surgeons provides a diverse education that has resulted in board passage rates well above national averages. 3
