SHEBOYGAN FALLS HIGH SCHOOL 2017 LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM Due Date: Tuesday, February 28, 2017 Some of these "No Need" based scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholarship, leadership, character and involvement in extra-curricular activities. An alternate candidate system may be utilized at the discretion of each committee. The alternate selection process allows the committees to select a candidate relative to the amount and number of other scholarships received. The scholarships require a prepared application form, which is available on the counseling website, in the counseling office and is also inclusive with this scholarship listing. All scholarships are subject to availability and confirmation with the sponsoring person or organization. Scholarships are presented as either INSIDE (IN SCHOOL) OR OUTSIDE (OUT OF SCHOOL) scholarships. Scholarship applications designated inside-(in SCHOOL) are copies that must be turned in to Mrs. Weber (counseling secretary) no later than February 28. Scholarship applications designated as outside (OUT OF SCHOOL) must be forwarded directly to that scholarship committee representative unless stated differently. All OUT OF SCHOOL scholarships list the name of the committee representative and the mailing address. All OUT OF SCHOOL scholarship applications must be postmarked if mailed to the committee representative s address no later than February 28, 2017. Students are reminded to submit one copy of each of their OUT OF SCHOOL scholarships to the counseling office for backup purposes. Scholarships may be subject to change. (3) SHEBOYGAN FALLS LIONS SCHOLARSHIPS -$1500 Scholarships will be awarded to students who plan to attend a four year college or university. The amount of each scholarship will be $1500. $750 will be awarded in the first year of attendance; the second and final payment of $750 will be awarded in the second year of attendance if the student remains in good standing with their college or university. The requirements for this scholarship include academic achievement, participation in school activities, and evidence of service to the community. IT REPLACES THE STANDARD APPLICATION. (2 or 3) ARDEN LUKER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 Two or three scholarships are available to a senior attending a 2 or 4 year college or university. Selections will be made by a scholarship committee consisting of the president of the board of education, the superintendent of schools and the student services member. Criteria for the scholarship is academic excellence with emphasis in leadership and character with plans on earning a four-year degree. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) BEMIS TECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 ($250/semester) dependent on availability One scholarship available, renewable for one year, to a student planning to enroll in Lakeshore Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College, Fox Valley Technical College or Northeast Wisconsin Green Bay Technical College. Preference may be given to students interested in studying plastics, tool and die, electrician apprentice, machinist, and set up technician. Selections will be made by a scholarship committee consisting of the president of the board of education, the superintendent of schools and the student services director. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) RICHARD A. BEMIS SCHOLARSHIP - $5,000 dependent on availability The Richard A. Bemis Scholarship will be given every year to the Sheboygan Falls High School graduating senior who exhibits exemplary skills in leadership and business and has built a strong academic foundation. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) KETTLE LAKES COOPERATIVE SCHOLARSHIP -$1000 A one year scholarship available to a graduating senior in the upper 40% of their class and has a 3.0 GPA desiring to continue his/her education at an accredited 2-year or 4-year college. A preference may be given to an individual wishing to study agriculture or agribusiness or a natural science(horticulture or landscaping). (1) THE JIMMY LOHR MEMORIAL GOLF SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 One scholarship issued to a senior who is a letter winner in golf, has at least a C average, and who will be pursuing post-secondary education. A letter of recommendation from the golf coach stating that the student has exhibited extra effort in the promotion of golf must accompany the application. Scholarship is payable at the end of student s first semester upon submission of transcript and second semester registration verification. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) PATRICIA M. KENNEDY REIDY SCHOLARSHIP - $2,000 One $2000 scholarships given to a senior planning on attending a two or four year university, college or technical college. The graduating senior must be involved in fine arts programming at SFHS (music, drama, art), have a commendable academic record, demonstrate financial need, and participate in community service activities. This scholarship will be awarded after the completion of the first semester at the post secondary institution. Selection will be made by a scholarship committee consisting of a school administrator, a foundation member, a student services member and a fine art educator. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) SHEBOYGAN FALLS EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT STAFF ASSOC. SCHOLARSHIP - $500 This non-renewable scholarship is designed for a senior who plans to attend a two year or technical college majoring in the service industry. Financial need will be a consideration. GPA must range from 2.5 to 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. A school committee will make the selection for this scholarship. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) SHEBOYGAN FALLS FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA - $300 One or two scholarships are available depending on resources of the club. Scholarship goes to FFA members. The selection committee is newly elected officers and advisor. Students must submit their applications directly to the guidance office. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) SHEBOYGAN FALLS STUDENT COUNCIL - varies in amount One or two scholarships are available pending resources of the student council. One scholarship goes to a Student Council Member (normally $200.00) and the other scholarship goes to a senior non-member (normally $150.00). Members on the selection committee are newly elected officers and adviser. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) SHEBOYGAN FALLS NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY varies in amount, max of $500 One scholarship is available pending resources of the club. Scholarship goes to a National Honor Society member. Selection committee is comprised of National Honor Society members. Students must submit their application directly to the counseling office. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) WALTER AND JUNE VOLLRATH SCHOLARSHIP amount varies but is approximately $4000 Student must be in the top 40% of the class. Senior must attend a 2 or 4 yr school in the state of Wisconsin. Student should exhibit financial need. Student must not be the recipient of any other financial grants totaling more than the Vollrath Scholarship total, with the exception of aid being offered directly from the college or university. Preference will be given to dependents of Polar Ware employees. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) WELLS FARGO BANK SCHOLARSHIP - $500 One scholarship available, non-renewable, to a student who is planning to continue his/her education beyond high school in the study of business or finance. Criteria: must intend to pursue a degree and career in business or finance, must be ranked in the upper 20% of the class, must have demonstrated a capacity for leadership by participation in school and community service activities, and generally can be described as an involved and good student. Scholarship will be issued semester 2 of Freshman year and student must have a GPA. of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP. (1) RICK AND NANCY BIGLER SCHOLARSHIP - $1000 One $1000 scholarship offered to a senior attending a 2 or 4 year college. Criteria: strong work ethic, good academic record (GPA of 2.66), community service and relative financial need. (3) BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS - $1000 Three $1000 scholarships will be given. Senior attending a technical college, college or university and have a GPA of 3.0. Parents must be active members (defined as having worked a minimum of 5 events and attend 3 monthly meetings per term) and been a member for at least 2 years. A separate application must be filled out and can be obtained in the counseling office. It replaces the standard application. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) JILL CAPELLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $250 One scholarship is available to a senior who has a GPA or 3.0 or higher and will be attending a 2 or 4 year college in the fall. Financial need will be a consideration. A school committee that includes a family member will make the selection for this scholarship. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) AL GOETZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP - $200 One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who plans to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university fulltime. Applicants must have participated in the track program at SFHS for 4 years and have a 2.5 GPA or higher. Financial need will be a consideration. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (2) SHEBOYGAN FALLS MASONIC LODGE SCHOLARSHIP - $1,000 Two $1,000 one-year scholarships are available to graduating seniors who display a commendable academic record, have potential success to continue his/her achievement in a post secondary college or university and will be enrolled as a full time student, have a 3.0 GPA, have demonstrated qualities of leadership ability, have demonstrated service as evidenced by the school, community and church or synagogue involvement. This may include a four-year public/private, junior college, or technical college. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) SIPIORSKI FAMILY VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP - $200 This scholarship is designed for seniors who plan to go to a 2 or 4 year university and will be majoring in the visual arts and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) LUKE TENPAS SCHOLARSHIP - $500.00 This scholarship is available to a senior in the upper 50% of their class and is involved in the wrestling program (may be a wrestler, statistician, or cheerleader). The student must plan on attending a college 2 or 4 year school. Financial need will be a consideration. A school committee will make the selection for this scholarship. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP (1) WISCONSIN BANK AND TRUST SCHOLARSHIP - $1000.00 One $750.00 scholarship for a senior in the top 20% of the class, deemed dependable and has a specific career focus. Student must plan on attending a 4 year college or university. IN SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP NO APPLICATION IS NECESSARY: (varies) HERBERT V. KOHLER SCHOLARSHIP - $50,000/private, $25,000/public (may vary) NOTE: Separate essay required. Students in top 5% of class may pick up the essay in the high school counseling office. The regular application should also be submitted. Senior must be in the top 5% of the class. Each school in Sheboygan County selects one candidate. The Kohler Foundation selects the recipient from the 12 candidates. One year scholarship available to student planning on attending a four year college. Senior must have strong leadership, capable scholar, want to do more, contribute more, motivated to become a leader in his/her chosen field, has an imagination to aspire and dream, and has good common sense in planning realistically. (1-2) TECHNICAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP (TES) Technical Excellence Scholarships (TES) are to be awarded by the State of Wisconsin to Wisconsin high school seniors who have the highest demonstrated level of proficiency in technical education subjects. The scholarships are only for use at a school within the Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) located within the state. The value of the scholarship is up to $2,250 per year, to be applied towards tuition.
