Framingham High School Scholarship Guidelines What is an FHS Scholarship? These scholarships are only open to FHS students. All FHS scholarships require the FHS Scholarship Application form. All FHS scholarships require an essay to go with the individual scholarships to which you are applying. Scholarship winners are selected by the FHS Scholarship Committee Where do I find the FHS Scholarship Packet and FHS Scholarship Application form? Both the FHS Scholarship Packet (list of all FHS Scholarships) and FHS Scholarship Application form were emailed to all seniors via NAVIANCE on February 1st 2017. (Students, to acces your Naviance account, go to : http://connection.naviance.com/framingham ) Hard copies are also available in the FHS College and Career Center (D110) and the Grade 12 School Counseling Office (D109). How do I apply for an FHS Scholarship? 1. Fill out the FHS Scholarship Application Form. *Please note, you only need to fill out one FHS Scholarship Application form if you make copies as follows: Leave the name of scholarship section blank and fill in all other information. Photocopy the completed FHS Scholarship Application form to use as a cover sheet for all FHS Scholarships for which you are applying Write in the name of scholarship for which you are applying on each photocopied FHS Scholarship Application form. 2. Complete the Essay Requirement. You must attach a one page, typed essay for each individual scholarship, telling the Scholarship Committee why you meet the criteria for that particular scholarship. You may also include anything else you would like the scholarship committee to consider. Please make sure you name is on your essay and attach it to the FHS Scholarship Application form. Please Note: You do not need to submit a transcript with the FHS Scholarship Application. It is important to fill out the financial section of the FHS Scholarship Application form, as financial need will be one of the factors considered by the Scholarship Committee. All completed FHS Scholarship Applications must turned in to the D109 School Counseling Office NO LATER than 2:00pm on Friday, March 3, 2017. FHS Scholarship Listing 2017 Bennie Ottaviani Service Award Sponsored by the FHS Parent-Teacher Booster Organization, this is awarded in honor of Officer Ottaviani, a member of the Framingham Police Department. The recipient should be an FHS senior who has supported the FHS community in an unselfish manner, and who has made an enthusiastic and outstanding contribution to FHS. Amount: $300 Charles W. Hickson Memorial Scholarship, Sponsored by MutualOne Bank Awarded to an FHS senior who will attend a 4-year college and who has demonstrated integrity and has diligently applied him/her to his/her studies and career goal. Preference is given to those seniors with financial need. 0 Community Recycling Rewards Scholarship Awarded to a senior with a passion for the environment who will major in Environmental Studies (or a related science) at a 4-year college or university. Amount: TBD DCU Community Scholarship Awarded to seniors who have served as a positive member of the FHS community. -5,000 Dr. and Mrs. Matthew L. Herz Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who has demonstrated excellence in Science and has been committed to school and community. Amount: $2,500 Edward F. Convery Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who will major in education, history, or religious studies in college. Preference is given to seniors who will attend a Massachusetts State University and who demonstrate financial need. Amount: $1500 Eleanor M. & James L. Brophy Scholarship Fund Awarded to a graduating senior deserving of financial assistance in order to fulfill his/her potential at a college or university. Applicants must discuss the following in their application essay: academic accomplishments, leadership qualities, financial need, and community service. Please also discuss any obstacles you have overcome during your years at FHS. Amount: $10,000
Framingham High School Parent-Teacher Boosters Organization Scholarships Awarded to three FHS seniors whose parents have been active members of the PTBO for all the years that they have been enrolled at FHS. The applicants must be in good academic standing, and have participated in extra-curricular activities as well as community or school-related service. Applicant essays should discuss: the value of parental involvement for both students and staff at FHS. Amount: Three awards of $400 each. Frank Barbieri, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who plans to be a teacher, preferably of History. Candidates should have demonstrated a strong willingness to learn, to help others learn, and be caring individuals. Amount: $1,500 James Carey Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who will major in a Health/Physical Education-related field. (Does not include nursing or medical majors.) Jane Shapiro Chafetz Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who attended Dunning School and has demonstrated need. Kevin C. Salvi Academic Development Center Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who has served as a tutor in the ADC while at FHS. The recipient should have been inspired by their experience to pursue a career in education, social work or in another field in service to others. Amount: TBD McCarthy Elementary School Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior in good academic standing, with financial need, who attended McCarthy Elementary School. Michelle K. Chouinard Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a motivated, hard-working FHS senior with an interest in Math or excellence in Math, who has participated in extra-curricular activities and/or sports. The student should be a caring, perceptive individual who looks out for the welfare of others, and who has perhaps organized and encouraged participation in activities for the benefit of others. The recipient may also plan to enter the teaching profession. Amount: $1,500 Middlesex Savings Charitable Foundation Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who has demonstrated a commitment to his/her studies and community involvement.
Should also have financial need and not be receiving multiple awards. The recipient should have demonstrated, during their high school years, the courage and perseverance to significantly improve their academic performance and make positive changes to his/her life. Normanei Rocha Scott Memorial Scholarship Awarded to a former Woodrow Wilson Student Amount: $1000 Paresky, Flitt & Co. LLP, Academic Book Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who will pursue a Bachelor s degree in Business. The scholarship payment will be made to the student upon proof of registration for the second semester of his/her freshman year. Regina Henneberry Scholarship Fund, LTD Awarded to an FHS female who is going to a 4 year college to major in English with the hope of pursuing a career in teaching at the high school level. Must have a B average Applicant essays must include: why student feels she is eligible for this scholarship Representative Deborah Blumer Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS immigrant senior who has demonstrated a strong commitment to social justice and community service. Amount: $2,500 Richard J. Kropp Memorial Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior in the top 25% of his/her class, who is an outstanding citizen, and who is active in extracurricular activities, athletics, and/or community service. Preference will be given to students who have faced any unique personal challenges. Sharon Galligan Memorial Scholarship For an FHS senior who has demonstrated academic capability, financial need, and service to school and community. Amount: $2,000 Urban J. Charles Scholarship Awarded to an FHS senior who ranks in the top half of his/her class, who has leadership qualities, and who plans to pursue a career in a science-related field. The scholarship check will be paid directly to the college the recipient plans to attend. Amount: $2,000
