Rotary International District 3300 - Rotary Year 2013/2014 For Rotarians Only GOVERNOR S NEWSLETTER District Governor Datuk Dr Mohinder Singh - Message IT IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU. ISSUE JUNE 2014 Dear Rotarians It takes two long years of preparation as DGN and DGE and one hectic year of implementation as DG. In the beginning the days move slowly as Installations, Official Visits, appearance at District and Club Functions start filling up the Diary of the DG. But alas! It all comes to an end as DG on 30th June. When I look back, it appears that the whole year has passed by as a wink. It has all been too short and there appears to be much unfinished work, which no doubt will sort itself out under the new leadership. I have the pleasure to be there as IPDG to ensure this. All said and done, I am glad that the year is over and I have managed to complete all my official duties, inspite of the Quadruple Heart Surgery that I had to undergo. What have I as DG benefitted? 1. A better understanding of Rotary and what it really means to be a Rotarian. 2. The wide variety of caring and welfare activities carried out by the Rotary Clubs - certainly there is much biodiversity. 3. A better insight into the strengths, weaknesses, preferences, desires and aspirations of the Rotary Clubs. 4. There is much love and respect among Rotarians for their DG and they are prepared to go the extra mile for the DG. 5. It has been a great opportunity to get to know more Rotarians as well as build stronger friendships. The work however is not over- DGs are not supposed to RETIRE. They move on to continue serving ROTARY even more in new positions and provide the inspiration to the future leaders and new Rotarians. After all, they have reached the PINNACLE OF ROTARY ENLIGHTENMENT IN THE DISTRICT and must continue to LIGHT UP ROTARY with their deeds and actions. I must thank all my AGs, District Officers, Presidents and all Rotarians and Spouses who made it a fantastic and memorable year for me and Datin Helen. Rotary will never be the same to us - we have been enriched beyond our wildest expectations. WHAT I HAVE ACHIEVED IS ALL BECAUSE OF YOU AND YOUR GENEROUS AND SELFLESS CONTRIBUTIONS. YOU HAVE MADE ME PROUD TO BE YOUR DG. THANK YOU AND MAY GOD BLESS YOU ROTARIANS AND YOUR FAMILIES.

Rotary Club of Seputeh Community Service Permanent Fund by CP Raymond Chin From the proceeds of Rotary Club of Seputeh s inaugural Golf Tournament held on April 18, 2014, a house was build for a needy orang ASli family. In the true spirit of - ENGAGE ROTARY CHANGES LIVE, RC Seputeh turned a rundown house of smashed bamboo wall and old newspapers to keep out wind and rain, a RM25,000 pre-fab house was built. Well done RC Seputeh!. From this To this Welcome The Interact Club of Sunway International School to the Rotary family. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Bandar Sunway Interactors at the Interact Leadership Training Seminar Organised by RC Bandar Sunway for their Interact Clubs SPONSORING AN INTERACT CLUB Do you want to empower young people in your community to take action, become leaders, and gain a global perspective? Sponsor an Interact club! Whether they re carrying out a service project, organizing a Twitter chat, or planning a meeting, Interact club members develop skills that can last a lifetime. WHAT IS INTERACT? Interact is a club for youth ages 12-18 who want to connect with other young people in their community or school. Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organize at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding. While Rotary clubs sponsor them, Interact clubs are largely self-sustaining, requiring little or no financial support from your club.

Rotary Club of Kuala Lumpur DiRaja - Skipping For Health Project By IPP Chan Kam Fatt For 2 Rotary years of continuous hardwork - the Rotary Club of KL DiRaja purchased and distributed 100,000 skipping ropes all around the country to promote Skipping for Health for all, in particular school children. The Culminating Finale - Simultaneous Skipping for Health Event was launched by the Hon'ble Minister of Health Malaysia at Dataran Merdeka Kuala Lumpur on Sunday, 22nd June, 2014. Supported by 9 Rotary Clubs of Penang, George Town, Teluk Intan, Temerloh, Seremban, Senawang, Kota Bharu, West Pahang, and Kuching Central the event saw the participation of 7800 participants skipping in 9 locations throughout the country. Cued by the central control room in Dataran Merdeka the participants skipping for 5 minutes simultaneously to a national record and earned the project into the Malaysian Book of Records. At Dataran Meredeka the street was filled with school children and adults including Rotarians from Klang Valley joining in the morning exercise. In Mentakab, Rotary Clubs of Temerloh and Teluk Intan gathered school children to the skipping event.

Ron D. Burton President, Rotary International June Message We have a saying in Oklahoma that you need to leave the woodpile just a little higher than you found it. To do that, I needed to ask you to get involved. Involvement is what our theme this year Engage Rotary, Change Lives is all about. And, as each of us has done that as each of us has gotten up out of our chairs and truly engaged Rotary we have changed lives. This year, I asked each one of you to bring in one new member. The Board has laid a foundation for strengthening membership around the globe: Sixteen regional membership plans are now in place. They are built around making sure that we give people a reason to be in Rotary. I believe that if we can get prospective members to help us with a project it could be reading to kids, or working in a soup kitchen, or picking up trash along the highway the rest will take care of itself. They will realize that they made a difference in someone's life. And they'll also realize that when you give through Rotary service, you get so much more in return. I also asked each one of you to make a gift of some amount to our Rotary Foundation. It s time for us to recognize that the real challenge we face isn t just bringing new members into Rotary it s turning new members into true Rotarians. It s helping new members get engaged in Rotary, helping them realize just what kind of potential Rotary offers them, and how their Rotary service can change lives. All of our governors did that and became the first class in the history of Rotary to make that commitment. Sometimes we get comfortable in going to our club and not having any responsibility. Maybe it's because we haven't been asked to be more engaged. And, of course, it's great to go to your meeting and see your friends. But if you want to get fired up, you need to be doing projects. Hands-on projects are great equalizers. When you're unloading boxes off a truck, you're just like the next person, and that person is just like you. When everyone's serving together, there's camaraderie, and that's how you keep people engaged. Rotarians sometimes don't realize all that Rotary is doing and is capable of doing. If they could witness the impact of the projects I have seen this year, it would change their lives. They would understand that they belong to an organization whose members have a common desire to do something good and who, working together, accomplish incredible things. I continue to be in awe of the good I see Rotarians doing. I am firmly convinced that the woodpile is just a little higher because of your efforts. It is my hope that each one of you will continue to Engage Rotary, Change Lives.

Our new family...the Rotary Club of Mont Kiara Charter Night, June 14, 2014 Editor s Pen PP Siti Subaidah Another beginning... We have come to the end of June and the end of the Rotary Year 2013-14. As we celebrate the new Rotary year and usher in the theme Light-Up Rotary, we should continue every effort to Engage Rotary and Change Lives. Stepping into the next year of service, Rotarians and Rotary Clubs are already looking forward to further extend their hands to serve the community. Charter President Gurmeet Gill with Governor Datuk Dr Mohinder Singh Sponsor clubs, Rotary Club of Melawati and Rotary Club of Bernam Valley. Service Above Self is Rotary s Motto, a motto embedded in the DNA of every Rotarian. Rotarians engagement within the Club to expand its membership and strengthen the club, would build resources within the club. With a strong club, Rotarians engagement with the community is further enhanced and inevitably changes lives of those who are under privileged. PP Arthur Yeong and PP Dr Baskaran, the Rotarians behind the formation of the Rotary Club of Mont Kiara - a two years of commitment and hard work. Fellowship continues to be the cornerstone of Rotary and building better friendship through fellowship and service is our mantra. Congratulations to all out-going Presidents for having successfully leading your Clubs and may you continue to enjoy Rotary.
