Perdue AgriBusiness Inc. signs an export agreement to supply eight million bushels of its soybean crop to China s Jiusan Oil and Grain Industries Group. Perdue AgriBusiness appreciates the work of Chesapeake Economic Development as we continue to expand the market for Virginia soybeans. New markets and new customers allow us to efficiently utilize our deep port assets in Chesapeake, which in turn creates jobs and economic activity for the many other businesses that support us. John Cassidy, Senior Vice President, Perdue AgriBusiness Inc. In Chesapeake, our focus and formula for success is simple: Transportation equals jobs. Jobs equals prosperity. Prosperity equals revenue. Revenue equals world-class schools, safer streets, a better quality of life and a budget in balance. And world-class schools, safer streets, and an improved quality of life will build a more vibrant Chesapeake that future generations will proudly call home. And the proof is in the pudding. Nearly $1 billion has been invested in transportation projects that will create new pathways for success, our schools are among Virginia s best, and we are one of America s safest cities. And at a time when others are just beginning to find their economic sea legs, we are on a roll with remarkable growth in the form of double digit, year-over-year investments in Chesapeake. In short, ours is a city that dreams big and does great things. Working together, Chesapeake is creating new opportunities. We re open for business, and all we need is you. Investment in Chesapeake rose 11 percent from $04 million in 01 to $6 million in 013. With that investment came 1,166 new jobs. Nearly $117 million of the 013 activity was a result of new investment, while $109.6 million reflected reinvestment in Chesapeake by existing businesses. Renewed leases from 3 companies in 013 totaled $18.4 million and represented 1,35 saved jobs. Sutherland Global Services, DB Schenker and Gannett have all leased office space in Liberty Executive Park, totaling more than 88,000 square feet. All three companies were attracted to Chesapeake s prime location and dynamic workforce. Sutherland s move allowed the company to triple its office space and expand its growing team. Gannett and DB Schenker were also drawn to local amenities the area has to offer, such as restaurants located in Towne Place at Greenbrier. Craig Cope, Vice President & City Manager, Liberty Property Trust Atomized Products Group Inc. invested $4.3 million and created 6 jobs AVMAC LLC invested $500,000 and created 5 jobs DB Schenker invested $.7 million and created 135 jobs DESMI Inc. invested $1.9 million, created 34 jobs and saved 13 jobs Givens invested $.5 million GROW Greenbrier Mall invested $6 million Kinder Morgan invested $9. million Oceaneering International Inc. invested $33 million, created 70 jobs and saved 460 jobs USAA invested $13. million and created 500 jobs Personal Touch Services Inc. 013 Chesapeake Small Business of the Year Award 05//13 Brad Scott, Founder & CEO of Cetan Corp 013 Young Entrepreneur Award 05/8/13 Newman Family Health Mart 06/01/13 Lockside Bar & Grill

AVMAC LLC opened its headquarters in Oakbrooke Professional Center, bringing an investment of $350,000 and the creation of five new jobs. We looked at other areas in Hampton Roads, but the efforts and assistance of Chesapeake s Economic Development team was instrumental in us choosing Chesapeake. To be headquartered in the fleet and military hub of Virginia is key to our success, and Chesapeake is centrally located to serve our clients best interests. Bert Ortiz, President and CEO, AVMAC LLC Dominion Boulevard Project Advances Transportation Network Construction is underway on the new 95-foothigh Dominion Boulevard bridge that crosses the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway and widens U.S. Route 17. Scheduled to be completed by 017, the fixedspan bridge will utilize the E-Z Pass system to collect $1 tolls one of the lowest charges in the Hampton Roads region. The bridge is only part of a significant improvement project meant to reduce congestion, as well as prevent accidents and improve public safety. To accommodate the bridge, 3.8 miles of roadway will be widened from two to four lanes and interchanges will be created at multiple locations along the Dominion Corridor. Mayor Alan P. Krasnoff attributes the project s success to the city s state and federal partners. He said, This is a significant accomplishment and marks a major step forward as we improve and build Chesapeake s transportation infrastructure. Further progress has been made on Chesapeake s infrastructure with the opening of the new fourlane Gilmerton Bridge on Military Highway. As one of the most innovative bridge replacement projects in the state, the vertical lift bridge will ease traffic congestion and provide taller passageways for ships. Both the Gilmerton Bridge and the Dominion Boulevard Improvement project add to the city s burgeoning structural growth, serving as key transportation links for the citizens of Chesapeake and paving the way for future developments. Atomized Products Group Inc. invested $4.3 million to establish a manufacturing and distribution operation in Chesapeake, creating 6 new jobs. We looked at growing our business in either Texas or Virginia, and chose Virginia. We were impressed by the enthusiasm we received from Tim Danielson of VEDP, Chris Gullickson of HREDA, and Preston Wilhelm with the City of Chesapeake s Economic Development Department, along with Russ Young and Stephanie Allman from Virginia Port Authority. They all worked hard to find the best situation for us. Ed Puckett, Co-Owner, Atomized Products Group Inc. Company Expansions Boost Chesapeake s Manufacturing and Maritime Industries Situated in a prime location in Hampton Roads, Chesapeake continues to grow its capabilities to attract manufacturing, engineering and maritime industries, and encourage company expansions. In November 013, DESMI Inc. expanded its manufacturing and assembly operation in the city, opening a new 37,000-square-foot facility and creating 34 new jobs. The international company first opened a sales office in 008 and has since established its North American headquarters in Chesapeake. EXPAND Oceaneering International Inc., based in Chesapeake for 13 years, will also grow its presence with a new 150,000-square-foot facility to consolidate engineering, manufacturing and administrative functions. Approximately $33 million will be invested to save more than 460 jobs and create 70 new jobs. Selecting Hampton Roads in Virginia for our new location perfectly aligns our five year goals to become both the employer and contractor of choice in our market segment, said Wayne Jakubowski, Oceaneering vice president and general manager. This location provides ideal convenience to our current, very capable employee base, in which we have already invested significant training, as well as proximity to key customers and shipyards. Oceaneering continues to foster the strategic partnership with local and state government developed over 13 years at our current location in Chesapeake. This location is truly an enabler for continuing our support for the growing demands of our customers. 09/4/13 Troy University Grand Reopening 10/4/13 DESMI Inc. In 013, Tidewater Community College opened its new 60,000-square-foot academic building and launched a workforce development program. This state of the art building features 1 general purpose classrooms fully equipped with modern technological devices, a multi-purpose assembly space and the Learning Assistance Center and English lab. Like all our new TCC buildings, the CAB [Chesapeake Academic Building] is expected to achieve the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver certification, due to its energyconscious design and environmentallyfriendly building materials. All of these features add up to a facility in which TCC, as well as the City of Chesapeake, can take enormous pride. Lisa Rhine, Provost, Tidewater Community College Chesapeake Campus New Collaborations and Resources Foster Community Engagement Chesapeake s commitment to engaging community members and business leaders in new city developments can be seen through the many resources created to share information. As a testament to the growing technology sector in Chesapeake, the Mayor s Committee on Technology and Biotechnology was formed in late 013 to enhance the presence of related industries within the city. The committee will look to local businesses, colleges, medical centers and the community at large to build a hub that fosters employment opportunities and enhances economic vitality in the Hampton Roads region, said Dan Bell, a member of the committee and retired president of Canon Information Technology Services. The Chesapeake Economic Development department led additional efforts to reach community members through the launch of a South Norfolk business website (www.southnorfolk.biz) and a ChesVa Biz mobile ENGAGE app. Both resources are designed to increase awareness of enterprise opportunities, and connect people to local news and resources. Events were also held throughout 013 to inspire learning and creativity. The first TEDx discussion in Hampton Roads, held in Great Bridge, drew 75 people for a presentation on how women are shaping the future of the region. The major strides Chesapeake has made in its business, communication and technology sectors prepare the region for not only a successful year, but also a future of significant economic growth and progress. 11/18/13 Agora Art Studios 1/01/13 USAA Relocation to Chesapeake 1/05/13 TEDx GreatBridge Women Event 1/1/13 ChesVA Biz Mobile App Launch 1/17/13 Oceaneering International Inc.
