On motion of Ms. Ortiz, seconded by Mrs. Rivera the board unanimously approved the Expulsion for Student #F: 2015/2016. Closed Session Resumed Open Session Action Taken Adoption of the Minutes Reports Dr. McLean reported on California Thursday April 14, 2016. Dr. McLean reported on the Walking School Bus Sierra Vista Elementary. Ms. Borquez reported so far the Walking School Bus has been very successful. Sierra Vista is working as a team with the Dolores Huerta Foundation and are also working on increasing parent involvement. Ms. Borquez mentioned Sierra Vista is the first school to launch this in Kern County and the students are very excited to get to school. Mrs. Pichardo reported she has enjoyed going out with the Walking School Bus and that it is important to get parents involved. Dr. McLean reported on the California Endowment Annual Convening. Dr. McLean gave an update on the suspension data. Dr. McLean stated Staff Appreciation Day is Friday, May 6, 2016. Dr. McLean gave an update on the Appreciative Inquiry. Dr. McLean gave an update on the monthly ATA Site Representative Meeting. Dr. McLean/California Endowment Dr. McLean/Suspension Data Dr. McLean/Staff Appreciation Dr. McLean/Appreciative Inquiry Dr. McLean/ATA Meeting Mrs. Rhett stated, following Ed Code, we will have a Special Board Meeting for Public Hearings on LCAP and Budget and the Regular Board Meeting to Approve LCAP and Budget. Mrs. Rhett/LCAP and Budget Hearings Mrs. Rivera reported on the Masters in Governance workshop on Community Relations. Mrs. Rivera encouraged other board members to attend the workshops. Mrs. Pichardo reported on the Masters in Governance class on Governance Integration. Mrs. Pichardo also encouraged the board members and superintendent to attend the workshops. Mrs. Pichardo stated the Walking School Bus is fun. Mrs. Pichardo stated she attended the California Thursday at Haven Drive and it was a nice event. Dr. McLean stated she will formally recognize Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Pichardo for completing the Masters in Governance Classes. Dr. McLean stated she is really proud of Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Pichardo. Mrs. Pichardo asked if we can budget for the board members to attend the classes for next year. Communications from the public At this time, Mr. Arvizu announced the opportunity for public comment regarding items not on the agenda. Ms. Rosa Moreno, 1425 Haven Drive, Arvin, asked the board for help with the decision made not to allow our preschool students to wear cap and gowns for graduation. Ms. Lila Perez, Kern President of Tri-Kabe. Ms. Perez invited the board members, superintendent and administrators the 2 nd annual Honoring Our Own recognition event on Thursday, May 12, 2016; 5:30 7:30 at the Harris Elementary, 4110 Garnsey Lane, Bakersfield. Mr. Michael Castaneda, Teacher at Sierra Vista School, ATA President, 3629 Kennedy Avenue, Bakersfield. Mr. Castaneda congratulated Mrs. Rivera and Mrs. Pichardo for completing the Masters in Governance Classes and thanked them for taking time to attend the classes. Mr. Castaneda thanked the board, Mrs. Pereida-Martinez, Mrs. Rhett and Dr. McLean for listening to the concerns regarding the dual immersion classes. Mr. Castaneda invited the board to the annual steak bake on Friday, May 13, 2016. Mr. Castaneda addressed the board regarding Prop 30 funding. Ms. Angelica Parra, Preschool Parent, asked the board to take into consideration the decision made not to allow preschool students to wear cap and gowns for graduation. Ms. Yesenia Ocampo, Dolores Huerta Foundation, acknowledged and thanked Ms. Borquez and Mr. York for their commitment to launch the Walking School Bus program. Mrs. Ocampo also thanked Mrs. Pichardo and agrees we are in need of parent volunteers. Consent Calendar Mr. Arvizu stated Katie Lanza has submitted a letter of resignation which will be on the May agenda. The Cafeteria Lead Cook position and the 2-1/2 hour Instructional Aide (RSP Program) will be reposted. Pricing Proposal/ DreamBox Learning On motion of Mrs. Pichardo, seconded by Ms. Ortiz, the board unanimously approved the Statement of Work between Innovated Ed and Arvin Union School District to provide coaching on systems alignment, improving district wide teaching and learning support. Statement of Work/ Innovated Ed On motion of Mrs. Rivera, seconded by Ms. Ortiz, the board unanimously approved the Agreement between Arvin Union School District and University of LaVerne for the purpose of allowing students to be placed in our district for fieldwork and supervised teaching experiences. On motion of Ms. Ortiz, seconded by Mrs. Rivera, the board unanimously approved the educational study trip for 8 th grade students to attend the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles, California on May 20 & 25, 2016. HD Educational Study Trip/Museum of Tolerance Business Administration A public hearing will be held at this time to allow for public comments regarding the School Facilities Fees for the Arvin Union School District. Dr. McLean reminded the board of the California Endowment dinner of Friday night at the Padre. Dr. McLean stated Mrs. Pichardo and Mrs. Rivera will be visiting Mrs. Aguilar s class at Bear Mountain School on Wednesday. Dr. McLean is working with Mrs. Huizar to arrange a fieldtrip for a walk through at Bear Mountain School with all the board members. Mrs. Rhett shared an art poster presented at the Lions Peace Contests. Out of 167 entries, the student placed 3 rd. The student will be honored at the regular lunch meeting of Lions Club. She received a personal note, a plaque and a $25.00 check as her reward.
