The program emphasizes professional knowledge, skills and compassionate nursing practices. Students begin with courses that demonstrate the ce foundations of the nursing profession and its histical roots. The capstone preceptship exposes students to research and professional-practice concepts that will ensure their abilities to be nurse leaders and healthcare advocates. Throughout the program, students study life-span and cultural diversity issues while applying evidence-based practice to their profession. The Nursing maj includes the following optional concentration: The Accelerated Second Degree concentration The Combined Bachel of Science/Master of Science in Nursing degree Program A combined degree program is available f undergraduate Kent State nursing students who have completed 60 credit hours and meet specified GPA requirements early in their undergraduate studies. Qualified students may apply f admission into the Master of Science in Nursing degree after gaining approval from the appropriate graduate faculty program direct. Following graduation and passing the state licensing examination (NCLEX-RN), students' M.S.N. application may be activated f admission into the selected master's concentration. Freshman Students: Admission to the Nursing maj is selective; the process is competitive, and acceptance is never guaranteed. Prospective applicants must have completed high school mathematics, biology and chemistry. In addition, students must have achieved one of the following: Minimum 2.7 overall high school grade point average (on a.0 scale); and a minimum 22 ACT composite a minimum 00 SAT sce (please note that the old SAT sce f admittance was 020 SAT combined mathematics and critical reading sce). Transfer students who have successfully completed minimum 2 credit hours at Kent State University will be evaluated on their Kent State overall GPA only along with the previously described admission criteria. University Requirements All students in a bachel's degree program at Kent State University must complete the following university requirements f graduation. Requirement Destination Kent State: First Year Experience Course is not required f students with 25 transfer credits, excluding College Credit Plus, age 2+ at time of admission. Progression Requirements Students must met the following requirements in der to be admitted to the Professional Nursing Sequence: Students are eligible to make application during the semester in which they anticipate completing have completed, 0 credit hours. Students must have a 2.750 overall GPA, and a 2.750 GPA in the required sciences (BSCI 200; and BSCI 2020; and BSCI 2002 BSCI 07; and CHEM 0050 CHEM 0055 CHEM 0060) to be eligible f admission. Students must earn a 2.000 (grade of C) in each of the prerequisite science courses (BSCI 200; and BSCI 2020; and BSCI 2002 BSCI 07; and CHEM 0050 CHEM 0055 CHEM 0060) to be eligible f admission. Completion of one of the following math courses with a grade of C better: MATH 0772, MATH 077, MATH 077, MATH 0775, MATH 009, MATH 00, MATH 02, MATH 200, MATH 2002, MATH 20 MATH 202. All students in the B.S.N. degree must have a minimum overall 2.000 GPA each semester to continue in the program; failure to achieve this GPA each semester will result in not permitted to continue in the program. All students in the B.S.N. degree must have earned a minimum C grade in each science course required in the B.S.N. curriculum. All required chemistry and biology courses must be successfully completed with a minimum C grade to graduate with the B.S.N. degree. Students in the traditional and accelerated concentration must have a minimum C grade in each of the sophome nursing courses to progress to the juni nursing sequence. Students in the traditional and accelerated concentration must have a minimum C grade in each of the juni nursing courses (NURS 000, NURS 0020 and NURS 005) to progress to the seni nursing sequence. Students in the traditional and accelerated Nursing maj must have a minimum C grade in each of the seni nursing courses (NURS 0005, NURS 000, NURS 0020, NURS 000, NURS 005 and NURS 0872) to progress and graduate. Students in the accelerated Nursing concentration and LPN to BSN sequence may take juni- and seni-level courses concurrently as specified by their curriculum. Students in the traditional Nursing maj may take a maximum of two clinical courses each semester. Students in the accelerated Nursing concentration and LPN to BSN sequence are permitted to take three clinical courses each term, as specified by their curriculum. Students in the accelerated concentration and LPN to BSN sequence who do not earn a C better in any nursing courses, will be transferred to the traditional BSN course schedule. LPN to BSN Sequence: LPN students who are pursuing the nursing maj will need to complete all ce and prerequisite coursewk to be admitted to the Professional Nursing Sequence.
