Dear Friends, We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of summer weather and looking forward to a busy season of activity. Last month we enjoyed a scenic trip to the Lakes Region of NH with approximately 40 seniors. It was a fun day with a delicious lunch and great company. A special thanks to the Town Council for subsidizing a portion of the expense. The Standish Summer Spectacular (June 22-24) is just around the corner. I hope you are able to join in on a few of the planned activities during the three-day celebration. The committee of volunteers has been working throughout the year to prepare an exciting line-up of events and we hope to see you there! *Thursday, June 22: Spectacular Launch Social (6:30-8:30 pm) @ the Boat Launch for BBQ & Band $10 (advance reservations/payment at Rec Office or online to guarantee your spot) *Friday, June 23: Party in the Park & Fireworks (6:00-10:00 pm) @ Memorial Park food, entertainment, games *Saturday, June 24: Pancake Breakfast (7:30-9:30 am) @ Congregational Church $5 adults/$3 kids Community Marketplace (9am-1pm) @ GE Jack School lawn, artisans and vendors Parade 3 Villages. 1 Community. Sorry, no refunds for less than 48 hours notice. IF YOU SNOOZE, WE ALL LOSE...PLEASE REGISTER EARLY! A minimum number of participants is required in order to offer trips and classes. Early registration will insure that your seat is reserved and you won t miss out because a program is cancelled or filled! Programs and trips take coordination and planning. GUYS & DOLLS at MAINE STATE MUSIC THEATER Pickard Theater, nestled on the campus of Bowdoin College in Brunswick, is home to Maine State Theater s summer line-up. Frank Loesser s celebrated musical comedy about rolling the dice and falling in love under the bright lights of Broadway is considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy. Set in a mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls is an oddball romantic comedy. Guys and Dolls takes us from the heart of Times Square to the cafes of Havana, Cuba, and even into the sewers of New York City, but eventually everyone ends up right where they belong. (Maximum of 9). THE RICH MEMORIAL BEACH IS OPEN! The Town of Standish celebrated the grand opening of the new public beach on May 20th. There was a great turnout and the weather was perfect. A special thank you to the volunteers of the Recreation Committee who helped cook and serve food, set up games and plan the event. Kayaks were provided by Sebago Trails Paddling Company and the beach was even showcased on the evening news as WCSH 6 covered the event.
