The programme is part of a large community initiative being undertaken by the Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC, http://angkorhospital.org/). The Saving baby s lives project will be conducted over six years and implemented in a cluster randomised controlled, step wedge design. We are seeking a team to provide technical support and mentoring to our local team of doctors and nurses in developing the programme, implementing and evaluating it. All activities will involve working with the local project lead with the support of the CEO of Angkor Hospital for Children Team members Midwife 1. Able to work independently as a midwife 2. Current NMC registration (or country equivalent) 3. Experience in managing obstetric emergencies 4. ALS/NLS provider 5. Excellent teaching and communication skills 6. Experience in audit and or research 7. Proficiency at using Microsoft word, Power Point and Excel 8. To be flexible, inventive, patient and enthusiastic
Neonatal nurse 1. Able to work independently as a Paediatric and/or Neonatal nurse 2. Current NMC registration (or country equivalent) 3. Experience in managing neonatal emergencies 4. Be an APLS/EPLS provider 5. Excellent teaching and communication skills 6. Experience in audit and or research 7. Proficiency at using Microsoft word, Power Point and Excel 8. To be flexible, inventive, patient and enthusiastic 3. Tropical Nursing qualification or equivalent Paediatrician 1. Able to work independently as a paediatrician 2. RCPCH member 3. ST4 level or above 4. Experience in managing neonatal emergencies 5. Be an APLS provider 6. Excellent teaching and communication skills 7. Experience in audit and or research 8. Review current neonatal care practices in the community 2. Develop a health care package for newborns for a health centre setting, that is compatible with Cambodian national guidelines 3. Develop a teaching programme for this package 4. Develop an essential equipment list for acute neonatal care that is locally appropriate and available 5. Develop an implementation and evaluation plan for the project 6. Develop data recording forms
Emergency Obstetric Training (Midwife) 1. Review current obstetric practices in the community 2. Develop an emergency obstetric package for newborns for a health centre setting, that is compatible with Cambodian national guidelines 3. Develop a teaching programme for this package 4. Develop an essential equipment and drug list for emergency obstetric care that is locally appropriate and available 5. Develop an implementation and evaluation plan for the project 6. Develop data recording forms Develop teaching skills Work with the local staff to improve their teaching skills, in order for them to be able to teach health centre staff centre Mentoring Undertaking a project of this size and scope will be daunting for local staff. Providing mentorship and support will help the programme to succeed and make it more likely for local staff to be able to operate independently and for the programme to become sustainable Supporting clinical services Work with local staff at the Angkor Hospital for Children and the Satellite clinic to review current practice and identify areas of improvement / strengthening for neonatal care provided at these locations. Recommend changes to practice and devise an action plan to implement the recommend change.
